  3. During the Romanism period of the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s a lot of new ideas were forming. It was also one of the shortest lived eras people learn about.
More people started to focus on nature and imagination. This hadn’t been done before, because most people during this time focused on why something did what happen, rather then not caring for an explanation. During this era more people flowed with the way others went and found things they didn’t even know they were looking for. Such as Romanticism writers would go out into the far nature to see if they could see anything, which could be interesting. Then finding a whole atmosphere they didn’t know existed within the forest.
Symbolism played a huge part during this period, because a lot of people wanted to express themselves. Like I said before imagination and nature were a big part of the Romantic period and the symbols they drew for pieces for literature, really emphasized what message they were sending out to the public. They wanted no only their voices to be heard but also the images that they were thinking.
While some poets wrote to seem joyful in new ideas and stories. others talked about the harsh reality most were living in during this period. The tones of the poems/stories revealed a sad and hopeless aspect to it. They knew they couldn’t change what was going on during this period but they felt like something needed to happen so they sometimes wrote what could change. Their tones were sometimes very down and melancholy, but they were only writing about what everyone else was feeling during this awful time as well. They emphasized emotions so much within their poems the readers could feel the heartache that the poems gave off. Also many of the poems had lessons intertwined through the worlds such as voices of innocence, experience and how to handle them.
Another new and simple idea more authors or musicians took into consideration during this time was originality. Before this most scholars might have token someone else’s work and claimed it as their own. But this era stroke a new kind of reason. They wanted to keep the originality of what they wrote. They wanted to show everyone that what they did was legit and came from their own wondrous minds.
Literary developments that took place during this period more authors who wrote poetry used a style of lyrical poems to make the poems more “catchy” such as rhyming. They looked upon Shakespeare and Milton for inspiration on the types of language they should use.
During the time in which Romanism was taking place, history was changing all over the world. England had just lost the 13 colonies and was struggling not only economically but other countries were starting to follow in the America’s footsteps and trying to fight England in wars. France on the other hand was trying to fight for their Independence. Ireland was fighting a horrible potato famine that struck ¾ of the people in the country.

  4. Romanticism, or the romantic period was a time in the 18th century in which a literary culture was created. During this time, the French Revolution was occurring in which France was fighting for their independence from their leaders, France and England were also at war, as well as the English losing all of their colonies in the Americas. One of the biggest set off that ignited the bright, burning flame that put romanticism in the light was the Industrial Revolution.
In the tine of the Industrial revolution, many countries such as England grew from and agricultural society into an Industrial society in which production was dependent on machine and factory operated utilities and it was much faster than traditional and agricultural production. Many communal lands were shared by farmers, and then soon bought out by individual owners for their own needs and wants leaving many people homeless and sent them to the poor houses or to live off of begging. The dominance of the Laissez Faire in the economic community played a huge role in society making the rich richer, and the poor, even more poor. This sent many adults into poverty forcing them to either sell their children of even force them into labor.
Many poets and literary artistes were aware of the actions occurring within their time period and were outraged. Because they had little political power, they believed in their power in literature and eventually, realizing what has been going wrong with society, they created their own literary movement. Romanticism often composes of elements that are from a child-like sense of wonder, social idealism, and adaptation to change. Tones also explored in romanticism were often mellow, and melancholy due to the struggles and challenges people faced each day. Some tones often include light happiness and much more depending on the issue. Some often famous topics explored and written by many Romantic idealists were the characteristics and beauty of nature, emotions, and nearly everything that had been forgetting and unappreciated in a work-addicted society. Also, some areas of literature that have not been explored, such as supernatural activity and many more have been incorporated and tried through the romantic period such as writers like Edgar Allen Poe.

  5. The Romantic Period happened in the mid 18th century in Europe. The Romantic Period started with the French Revolution in 1789 and ended with the Parliamentary Reforms in 1832. It creates new views and ideas for this period of time. Romanticism gave a big impact and new views for artists, musicians, poets, writers, and even political, philosophical and social thinkers. It also develops absolute originality. Most people take the term romanticism in the wrong way and definition; people think that the word romantic is something negative and naïve used to describe sentimental writing.

Literature Developments during the Romantic Period are poems; where all over the world different poets would bring something different and unique about romanticism to a meaning. There is no real meaning of romanticism. It’s the poets that go around the world to explore new ideas to share. Lord Bryon heavily influence on Romanticism and giving other great poets the motivation and ideas. To the Romantic Poets, Romanticism is more of a private, spontaneous, lyric poetry. They focus more on the rural life than city life. Some Romantic poets would write poems that seem joyful and new ideas and stories that they come up with and some poets would write the reality and the truth that was going on during that time of the period. Romantic poems usually present imaginative experiences as very powerful or moving. Romantics are more of a mind poets because they have a deeper meaning and understanding of the bond that the human beings and the world of senses.

Romanticism began as a reaction to the strictures of Neoclassicism. It emphasized the individual's reactions to life. Since it emphasizes the individual’s reactions to life, some create and powerful poems that helped to make Romanticism more known and improving later on are William Blake's "Songs of Innocence" (1789), Mary Wollstonecraft's “A Vindication of the Rights of Women”, and other works already demonstrate that a change has taken place--in political thought and literary expression.

A big impact during this period of time was symbolism. Symbolism means the systematic use of symbols or pictorial conventions to express an allegorical meaning. It not only gave motivation to many poets and musicians, but people also. A lot of people back then wanted to express themselves to the world, especially poets. It was a time that poets wanted to send their symbolism beliefs out the public so that it was heard hoping for a change because during that period of time was the most difficult time.

Industrial Revolution played a part during the Romanticism, because it was when factories was switching workers into machines to produce mass products faster and it would cost them less money than hiring people to produce their products. Since factories were getting machines and firing workers, which it increased unemployment which made it harder for people to survive due to poverty and war that was happening.

  6. Romanticism was a perid during the 18th century where the arts started to flourish into a movement against aristocratic social and political norms of the age of enlightenment. The use of not only painted arts but also written were begining to show true colors of day to day things such as nature. Emotion was emphasized in the arts. It strived for deph and meaning rather then recognition. The Industial revolution had one of the biggest impacts on Romanticism.People began to emerge from day to day farmers to working in factories. There were many improvments during this time such as transportation, steel, oil and textile. Romanticism during this time was used as an escape from modern realities. People could reveal their imagination and perspective of things into any shape of form. Its said that Romanticism developed the idea of originatoty and artisitic inspiration by the individual genuis which creates "creation of nothingness".

Romanticisn reached Americab by the 19th century. Americans being as imgaginative as Europe found cofort and reliability in thr romantic style. We too were also facing a time of great pressure to fulfill the needs of a emoltional let go that involved not "what something was" but "what it could be". Americans spirits were uplifted, those trying to get free of the graps of religion were inspired to take the arts and use it to an uplisting advantage. Also Americas idea of freedom was questioned and became a great motivation for Romantic writiers. It promised a new blossoming of American culture.

The strong feelings towards war became a huge inspiration for Romanticism. It served as a background for Romanticism. There were several wars that surrounded the Romantic Erasuch as The Seven Years war, the french Indian War and the American Revolution. The political and social termoil all served as background for the romantic Era. Romanticism was said th have three main characteristics which were A love of nature, a sense of nationalism, and a sense of exoticism/the supernatural. A main aspect of the Romantic Era was that it was for everyone, it wasnt just for the rich. Romantics saw their work as a connection with their equals. People that could see things from not only the bright side but also from negative. The authors of Romanticism were not only man there were women also involved in the style as well. During this period there was an increase in female writers. A spark of Romantic societies came up duirng this period which included British Association for Romantic Studies (BARS)
    International Conference on Romanticism (ICR)
and NASSR. These had much hold over the Romantic period. It was the collaborations of the artist of that time.

One of Romanticisms key idea it its style was nationalism which became the fuse of Romantic art and political philosophy. The Rousseau and Johann Gottfried von herder. The arguement that shaped it was that the geography formed the natural economy of a people, and shaped their customs and society. This style began to die down when Napoleon became emperor of France. Romanticism began to help people see where their own true state. In the romantic period music began to focus on the growing use of folk music and one of the biggest composers was Beethoven. The romantic generation viewed Beethoven as their ideal of a heroic artist. Music also focused on deph and nature rather then just putting words into lyrics.

The Romantic Era shaped the world we have today. It has given socitey a wider perspective on nature and on how people should interpret the way things are. Romanticism, now not being as big as it once was can be remembered by the effects it has left on the world and the outlines that it put on nature.Things should be viewed with more then "what it is" but more on the lines of "what it could be"

  7. Romanticism was created in the 18th century right around the time of the industrial revolution. During this time, many revolutions were going on around the world. It started with the Revolutionary War between the British and the United States colonies. The next revolution happened in France, where the king was overthrown by his own people. The new government in France was led by Napoleon Bonaparte, who was just another tyrant. Shortly after, the French and the British went to war. With all of these things going on around the world, romanticism was born.
Many of the larger countries’ economies changed during the Industrial Revolution. People began to work in factories instead of farms. More machines were coming into existence and hand labor was starting to decline. With these new changes, new ideas came about. There was a new type of art that was created, which was romanticism. There were three main points to romanticism which were a love of nature, a sense of nationalism, and a sense of the exotic or supernatural. Romanticism encouraged people to be original and let their imagination run wild. Art can be defined as music, literature, paintings, sculptures, and drawings. The wars that went on helped inspire these artists create their works of art.
Many writers, musicians, and artists became famous during this time. Mozart and Beethoven became famous for their music. Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne were two authors that wrote their literature on the supernatural during the Romantic times. William Blake was a poet and a painter who was a large impact in British Romanticism. Romanticism started in Europe and eventually spread to America. Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American, was another influential writer that came to be during the romantic times. He wrote more about philosophy and moved away from religion. Religion was the enemy to romanticism.
When Romanticism went to the Americas, it stuck because the Americans were individualistic and their country was growing. Since nationalism is a main point of romanticism, Americans could easily relate to it, seeing how they just won their independence not too long ago. Romanticism became a big part of politics, philosophy and art in America. Romanticism helped create many new literatures in America by bringing novels, short stories, and poems instead of sermons and manifestos. Romantics in America wanted to move away from neoclassicism and religious traditions. They felt as if those two things kept people in confinement.
While romanticism was going on, poverty rates increased. With poverty on the rise, romantic artists had a background to use for their work. People got so poor that they began to sell anything they had, even their kids. The work of romanticism spoke to common people instead of only the rich. They wanted to connect with the common people because there were so many wars going on that they wanted to try to ease the uneasiness people felt. More women authors came to be because of the wars. Women were stuck at home with no way to express their feelings, so they began to write. Romanticism helped changed the way that society was and brought about new ideas that were never used before.

  8. Revolution; like any other major event in history, brings up major changes on the way of thought of humans and the social living of a society. On of those ideas that came up during that time period was the idea of romanticism. Romanticism was created during the 18 century as many events where going on like the French revolution as well as the industrial revolution and a war against Britain and France. Basically you can mark this period with the French revolution in 1789 and the parliamentary reforms in 1832. During the romantic period new ideas where being created for writers, musicians, artists, poets and even political, social, and philosophical thinkers. These people focused their art on anything that had to do with nature or emotions. Romanticism was born as a result of the reaction of what was neoclassicism. It focused on what was a persons view of what life was and therefore created very catchy and powerful poems that helped you get informed.
One of the things that this period is known for is for its poems and literature. Such poets and writers of this period include William Blake and Edgar Allen Poe among others. What makes their pieces of literature different from others is that in their pieces they add emotion to their writing and try to write their literature as if they where in the place of the character. Examples of these pieces of writing are Blake’s “songs of innocence” and Mary Wollstonecraft’s “ a vindication of the rights of women Also they incorporate a couple of literary devices such as repetition, parallelism, and other devices that make their pieces of literature catchy.
Also in these writings the authors put a lot of symbolism to it, which is the key point of romantic writing. They put symbolism because the main point of this style of writing is to express themselves against a wrongdoing they see in the world and its society.
The industrial revolution began as the same time as romanticism was happening because of a lot of reasons. One is that work that required human labor was being replaced with machinery. This meant that people where losing their jobs and society was begging to be poor as a whole. So because poverty was increasing and everything was bad, romantics started to write and speak out against it. Of course everybody spoke in the point of view they had. Such views can be seen in William Blake’s work and Mary Wollstonecraft’s work also.
Romanticism style of writing in present day isn’t written as much as it used to. Although you can see it in some modern music to make it catchy, sometimes to the point of not making sense. But the classic romantic writing can be seen and used for lots of things. One is to get motivation and implement the viewpoint to your daily life. Also it can be used as a history book because in most of these poems and texts you can see the social living conditions a writer was experiencing. In the end romanticism is such a diverse genre that you have a different viewpoint on how to approach it.

  9. During the Romantic period it was considered an artistic period in time. As the Agricultural revolution began so did the romantic period. At 1776 the age of the revolution swept across the western europe and eventually around the world. At a point in time there will always be a time for new creation, inventions, and developments that will change the world forever. This was one of those times in history. This period started with the French Revolution in 1789 and it ended with the parliamentary reforms or 1832. This period had a huge impact in historiography, education, and natural history. Also this era was a revolutionary age because England changed from an agricultural society to an industrial nation with a large and restless working class concentrated in the teeming mill towns. The people during the major switch between the two events were confused by the big change. Their mind were changed by the new influence and they adapted to the new change and the new big idea. Everything that they saw back then were changed by all of the influences that the romantic period had. At this time there were lots of changes when this period had begun. Basically this whole era was really focused on strong emotion and experiences. With many new writers and poets that expressed emotions and experiences, literature grew and began to be more noticeable to average citizens. Romantic movement developed a huge and wide variety of poets and playwrites. There were six main poets during the Romantic period. The first 3 poets were born or began and lived through most or all of the era in their life. William Blake, William Wordsworth, and Samuel Taylor. Basically these poets were the first generation that started during the romantic period. With so many different genres and different feels of each poem it was really amazing how someone can write so great. As these great poets were making their masterpiece many books and poems were published. A huge amount of these poems were published so their work can be seen by as many people who can get their hands on them. Romanticism in poetry helped emerged new ideas and positive voices that helped with the society. They say that people were caught with plagerisium because they wanted the credit for the great piece of art. These romantic poets turn their originality into the institution of originality. With their originality and creativity in writing their work or as i may call it art, were truly outstanding and superb. They all had reasons to write and had great passion in doing so. The 2nd generation of poets were Percy Bysshe Shelly, John Keats, and George Gordon. These 2nd generation poets were also famous writers as well. Just like the 1st generation all of their work and art were just outstanding and creative. All of these poets made a huge impact during this time as well in education, art, and literature. This made the romantic period a memorable time in history.

  10. The Romantic era had begun in the middle of the 18th century through the 19th century. During the time this era originated in, the French Revolution had emerged which would last for about ten years. The French were going through a difficult crisis due to their near bankruptcy, fight to overthrow kings, and war with Britain. They were in need of a reformation. The Revolution would come to an end when a man named Napoleon Bonaparte came in and took initiative to fix the struggles in France. The Romantic era would continue on shortly after the Revolution.

Throughout this time it had inspired many people from their beautiful artwork of poetry, music, paintings, as well as literature. The development of this era brings out the creativity of great artists along with their originality through their profession. It brought a new imaginative enlightenment to the world within their short era. Originality was the key to their motivation during this period and they lived up to their actions and words. With many events going on at this time, the Romantic era was still able to prove themselves as an important time period of originality and creativity.

This era was originally a revolt against the social and political norms of the past Age of Enlightenment. It’s change in thought was mainly focused on literature, visual arts, and the nature of history. Romanticism’s visual arts were simply a reaction to the neoclassical style of art. Artists during this time wanted to apply more emotion and feelings towards their art. They wanted to be more subjective and provide more inner experiences. Most drawings gave a visual of their own exotic dreams along with amazing styles of landscapes.Experiences in horrible tragedies were also a main topic in their artwork as well and were seen as a reflection of god’s creation.

Literature was one of the most creative and unique themes during this time of era. Romantic literature was also focused on their emotions, beliefs, and their love of nature. William Blake was a perfect example of Romantic arts and literature. His use of symbolism through his poems is what made him such a great and challenging poet as each of his poems include a poem of innocence and experience. Writer’s ideology would provide the imagery of their stories they would write. These poems also included life’s lessons and experiences to inform the reader of their future actions they take in life as a source of salvation.

The Romantic era was a big influence to all artists around the world. It has been such an inspiration to people which is why art is still seen today in many forms. Although this era was surrounded by wars, it still was able to obtain the beauty and elegance of their art. It also gave them purposes to write and view the extravagant and exotic things in life. Romanticism’s art legacy would live on forever due to their love for nature, originality, symbolism, and their experiences and feelings during this time.

  11. Romanticism is a literary, artistic, and intellectual revival that totally altered the ways of thinking around the Western World. It was a manifestation of the social, political, and economic turbulence during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, generally focused in the United States, and from the originators in European countries such as France, and especially England. The historical events tied to the development of Romanticism were the American Revolution which lasted from 1775-1783, the French Revolution from 1798-1832. The times of Revolution are a time of radical change and unpredictable outcomes. The French Revolution had a substantial amount of influence to the people of England. The revolutionary actions of the democratic mob overthrowing the monarchy clearly sparked fear in the minds of the ruling class of England. The commoners were intrigued by the idea of revolution, and these people became the movers and shakers of the Romanticism Era. Some of these revolutionary writers included William Blake, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, Mary Shelley, John Keats, and Lord Byron. Some of these authors experienced the revolution during its budding years, including William Wordsworth. He was exhilarated by the French Revolution and even visited France. But his opinions changed after the pivotal 1792 “September Massacre”, where hundreds of French aristocrats and members of clergy were beheaded. One of the effects on war on the Romantic writer was that they had a new sense of nationalism to defend their country. These repercussions were felt by everyone throughout the social strata.

During this time frame England was also going through the Industrial Revolution which brought about prodigious changes socially and economically. In the social sense, the transition from a primarily agricultural society to an industrial one was truly tempestuous. Preceding this industrial boom, everything was homemade, but as technology became more advanced factories started spreading to cities. As the factories sprouted, the city population sky rocketed conversely the living conditions deteriorated. All the communal land that was owned by the whole society was now put into the hands of a miniscule percentage of landowners. The landless people then went to the overcrowded cities looking for work, but the majority, only finding themselves begging and frequenting poor houses. This corrupt distribution of wealth led to the upbringing of a frustrated and rebellious underclass.

Literary developments occurred because of the major changes in thought. The recalcitrant Romantic poets wanted to bring change to limit political power. They turned to poetry and literature to voice their outcries against government. Instead of intellectual writing attributed only to the high class, the works of the Romantic era spoke to the “common” people. It was also known as the period of enlightenment. Romantic writing is similar to the older types of writing, where the author explores the psychological and mysterious aspects of the human experience. Romantic writers were seen as youthful writers that would bring about a “new dawn”. Poetry was main way of publication with lyrical ballads, monologues, and more. Works of Romanticism also manifest with beautiful and astounding music and art. The development of Romanticism is and will always be extremely influential society around the world.

  13. Romanticism began during 1789 during the French Revolution and ended in 1832 during the Parliamentary reforms. The first Romantic writers who were born and lived through the period were William Blake, William Wordsworth, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. These writers were considering the first generation Romantic writers. The second generation of writers who started halfway through the period and died before 1825 were Percy Bysshe Shelly, John Keats, George Gordon, and Lord Byron.
This was all during the Industrial Revolution where agricultural societies slowly started turning into industrial areas and work places. People started to move towards large cities that were overpopulated which created disgusting living conditions. Big owners of these large industries even started to take away communal lands which left a lot of people landless. The whole industrial revolution was driven by the idea of Laissez Faire which was to let people do as they please. In this way of thinking the rich got richer, while the rich got more poor. The French Revolution was also occurring. France was being led by Napoleon Bonaparte who seemed to be just as tyrannical as the king they had overthrown. Through the hectic occurrences of all of these events, romanticism started to rise.
Romanticism can be referred to as a style of expression that applies to artists, writers, poets, musicians, and even philosophers during the 18th and 19th centuries. With the creation of Romanticism it also created the new idea that people must create things themselves and be individuals. Prior to this movement, many artists and writers copied and based their writings and works off previous pieces of art and literature. It was said that imagination was best for change. This applied to literary works, art, and social reforms as well. The main points of Romanticism are nature, innocent of youth, and imagination. These three things created a lot of poems that had very powerful meanings through the use of symbolism. You can use William Blake’s “Songs of Innocence” and “Songs of Experience” as an example. These are just some of the works conceived through the romantic era that were based on moral areas that were incorporated with nature.
The Romantic era has greatly impacted on our world as we see it today. It has not only affected art and literature, but people’s way of thinking as well. In the old days many people simply followed what has been thought in the pass due to tradition. The Romantic sparked a new era of thinking that had just as much importance as the Renaissance. It allowed poems and writings to have a true message and meaning that authors would convey through their pieces. The main thing that was so special about Romanticism is that it created a sense of individuality among the great writers of the time. The curiosity of youth that emphasized allowed people to discover through imagination. Without the Romantic era we would not be able to have some of the many great pieces that we are surrounded with today.

  14. Some could say that romanticism began during the French revolution and ended with parliamentary reform in 1832. During the french revolution there was another revolution going on at the same time that changed peoples thought of the time. The industrial revolution was also going on at the same time which was the move from the life of agriculture, which had been the norm for hundreds of years, to the industrialized urban factories and cities.
The loss of the colonies to England also sparked a revolution in France where the rich and the once powerful were gathered and beheaded. All of this excitement really pumped blood in the veins of the romanticist of the time and they found the beauty in all of the change. Unfortunately France declared war upon England and was ultimately defeated, all the death and destruction sadden most poets but they were optimistic for the "dawn of a new era".
England was one of the first countries to feel the effects of the industrial revolution. This movement was to take goods that applies to everyone that was once made by had at home to a factory at a much faster and cheaper rate. With most wealthy land owners buying up all the land to produce cash crops many of the poor were forced to work in the factories. The conditions of the factories were nothing short of appalling, people worked long hours for pennies and many people had a shorter life expectancy due to the harsh conditions of the workplace, and the child labor was just a worse. The term "Laisse Faire" was coined which was the economic philosophy that people where they were socially by reducing government regulation in businesses and let them do what they do best, take advantage.
The romanticist of this time were aware of what was going on and they were also aware of how little political power they held, they still spoke out about these crimes against humanity. Romanticism is derived from romance which often gets misconceived as a "genre" of love tales that lonely women read with a glass of wine by the fire place. The first real meaning of romance is a child's sense of wonder; youthful innocence, child's perception of the world, and the feeling of being born again. Secondly the social idealism of where people question society and imagine a better way to live. Lastly the adaptation to change and the ability to swiftly change, to roll with the punches and go with the flow.
Some new types of poetry is a lyrical Ballard which uses spontaneous outburst of feelings. Imagination is needed for this and it has a strict bond between the human mind and nature.

  15. During the Romanticism which was an intellectual movement created in the 18th century in Europe,it was characterized by a heightened interest in nature, it emphasized on the individual's expression of emotion and imagination, departure from the attitudes and forms of classicism, and rebellion against established social rules and conventions. Changes started to begin with enlightenment then the revolutionary war between the British and the United States colonies. Romanticism elevated the achievements of what it perceived as heroic individualists and artists, whose pioneering examples would elevate society. Europe gained most of its power from the industrial revolution. In part of the industrial revolution there was a revolt against aristocratic social and political norms of age of enlightenment. Romanticism was illustrated as most strongly in the visual arts, music, and literature, but had a major impact on history. But as technology became more advanced factories started spreading to cities. As the factories sprouted, Population increased enormously and the bad side of that is now the living conditions got worse and the land that was owned by the whole society is now in the hands of landowners which led to frustrated poor classes people now trying to rebel. The reason their tones were like that because they were going through a lot and in an attempt to escape the confines of population growth, urban sprawl, and industrialism, and it also attempted to embrace the exotic, unfamiliar, and distant in modes, they just wanted ways to escape. The way the artist expressed them selves gave them a sort of freedom and a different view of the society and a different way of art.In the second half of the 19th century, Realism was offered as a opposite to Romanticism. They focus more on the rural life than city life. Romantic poems usually presents and imaginative experience. Some of their tones were either mellow or melancholy, happy or sad.
Some major characteristics were a fascination with fantasy, wide ranges of emotional expression ,an enthusiasm for the culture of the Middle Ages. The most important inspiration for romantic art was nature. Artist looked upon other famous artist such as Shakespeare to get a better motivation or inspiration. Even though this time period was surrounded by war it was still able to maintain its beauty in art and express its way through pictures and literature and giving lots of motivation to other future artist

  16. With people’s minds ignited and inspired by ideas of personal liberty and endless imagination, people of the 18th century Europe fostered an artistic, philosophical, and literary movement that spread throughout the world. This movement is known as Romanticism, and the time is referred to as the Romantic Period or Romantic Era. Romanticism began in the last decades of the 18th century and lasted until the mid-19th century. Before this time, many revolutions were occurring all over the world; as a result, people’s mindsets about the fundamentals of life became more radical. The American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution all contributed to the spur of new ideas and the new outlook of people towards the importance of the individual and emotions. Poets and artists of the time used the power of their intellect and put their ideas into their work and this inspired their audience to be more imaginative and more appreciative of the beauty of nature. In contrast to Enlightenment thinkers that emphasized the importance of reason, Romantics focused more on imagination, nature, and emotions.

England’s defeat by the Americans in the American Revolution not only damaged England’s economy but it also deeply hurt their pride and confidence. To add more fuel to the fire, the ideologies of the French Revolution also made the citizen become more nationalistic and favor democracy. The French Revolution and its radical social and political upheavals that lead to the ousting of their tyrant king inspired Europeans to believe in the power of the individual. Old traditions like having a hierarchy were thrown out the window. Without the King, the ruling classes were upset and angered, the conservatives feared the spread of more radical ideas, and democratic idealists rejoiced.

The Industrial Revolution propelled the Romantic Movement. Advancements in technology, communication, and transportation allowed information to spread more quickly. The agricultural based economy transitioned to an industry and manufacturing- based economy. Trading and transportation became easier as canals were built, roads were improved, and railroads were developed. Machines became widely used by factories for mass production especially in the textile industry. With steam power, the publication of books and newspaper were expanded and this reinforced rising literacy and encouraged the average citizen to participate in politics. Social change also came with the industrial Revolution as members of the middle class found more employment opportunities in the mills and factories. People that used to live in farms flocked to the cities where it was crowded and they had no choice but to take jobs with horrible conditions.

Notable Romantic writers include William Blake, William Woodsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Percey Byshhe Shelley, John Keats, and Lord Byron. Romanticism stressed the importance of nature in art and literature in contrast to the mechanical machinery found in huge factories. These writers wrote so that their readers can have a means of escape from the loud and industrialized reality. The poets knew that they didn’t have much political power but they believed in the power of literature. They believed that they were special because they have “a greater knowledge of human nature and a more comprehensive soul” (Woodsworth)and that imagination, not reason, was the best response to forces of change. In contrary to what most people think, Romantic writing is not all about love. Elements of Romantic writing include love of nature, importance of imagination, and rejection of classical arts. Writers such as William Woodsworth encouraged simple, unadorned language called lyrical ballads. They hoped for their readers to get a quick burst of emotion and self-revelation by reading their work. Overall, Romantic literature was personal, intense, and portrayed more emotion than ever before that time because they believed that there is a permanent bond between man and nature.

  17. The Romantic Period started out around the year of 1789 to 1832 which was the starting point of the French Revolution and an end of the Parliamentary Reforms. The era of generation with six poets, the first generation with “William Blake, William Wordsworth, and Samuel Taylor” and then to the second generation with “Percy Bysstec Shelly, John Keals and George Gordon and Lord Byron”. This was the time of the industrial Revolution where dozens of factories were springing up and blackening the skies meaning lots of smoke produces from the factories above, and people were gearing their lives towards financial success, but spending very little time on connecting with beauty and or the nature within it. The poets made people think about the human society.
Within the French Revolution there was a great economic loss in which the American Revolution who had lost to England but also they lost their prestige confidence. During that time the revolution it had been lots of radical in France with some causes of the gathering of the prison in July 14, 1994 which was the causing of the overthrowing of the king Louis XVI by the democratic mobs around that gathering and places within them. Then which had the “New Regime” which is the massacre of the king with a new invention called the “guillotine” with is a state of the art killing devise where a long thin blade is on top and drop down to the victim head which is the cause of decapitation. Later on in 1793 France and England sooner or later had declared war on each other. Napoleon which was the command of France side which England has a long term war against him. Thus this had a major crisis on it and people where clinging to have a new hope a drawn of a new era for a peaceful change. England was the first nation to experience the effect of the Industrial Revolution which had cause many people coming into the city find for job and an increase of the population size of the place thus having lots of people unemployed and some homeless because some can’t find some what sort of job because of the lots of people there in the city.
The Romantic poetry is a full reference to Greek mythology. It is also full of the most vivid description of nature and the poets invite us to feel the same as they did when we are thinking about things that are so distant. It is a feeling of a characteristic of transience. Many of the poets and Romantics fellows fell that we, us people were lacking a sense of things greater then themselves, the need to bring nature, ancient history, and any other to it. It is a clear hearing that for poets it is to endure the sensibility and enthusiasm the knowledge of the human nature and society in it too, the unnatural belief that teaches us the main point of it. It uses the icon of creative and emotional imagery to tell us the tone and texture of it.

Romanticism was an artistic and intellectual movement that occurred during the late 18th century Western Europe. During this time artist expressed strong emotion, imagination, freedom within or even from classical notions of form in art, and overturning of prior social conventions. It followed the Enlightenment period and was in part inspired by a revolt against aristocratic social and political norms from the previous period. The start of this moment allowed artisit to probe the minds of others to manifest their intelligence that was hidden inside of them.

During this era, inventors made inventions that changed or way of hire we culturally pensive music today. In 1821, the harmonica was invented by Friedrich Buschmann. In1846, Adolphe Sax patented his first saxophone. In 1858 Henry Engelhard Steinway created his first grand piano. Also, the clarinet was redesigned giving it its mature form. During this era many inventors also composed musical pieces. In 1830, Louis-Hector Berlioz completed his "Symphonie Fantastique.", 1832 Frédéric Chopin performed his "Piano Concerto in F Minor" and the "Variations, opus 2" in Paris, Not only did inventors shine in the art of music but in the art of theater as well. For example from 1829 until the end of the romantic period, various playwritters written and performed plays for the enjoyment of others. Some plays included Felix Mendelssohn conducted the first modern performance of J.S. Bach's "St. Matthew Passion.” In 1829 and Louis-Hector Berlioz completed his "Symphonie Fantastique." in 1830.

Literature was also popular during the romantic period. A new art of literature was expressed during this time that we as students learn to analyze as a criteria for school. Poetry was seen as the “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings”, the essence of poetry was the mind, emotions, and imagination of the poet. The core of romanticism in poetry started developing with the help of Alexander Pope and also included early pioneers like Joseph Warton his brother Thomas Warton, Joseph maintained that invention and imagination were the chief qualities of a poet. Thomas Chatterton is generally considered to be the first Romantic poet in English. Scottish poet James Macpherson influenced the start of poems during the era with his poems published in 1762. Also in Spain, the Romantic Movement developed popular literature with a large variety of poets and play writers. José de Espronceda was a very important poet during this time. Fallowing him there were other poets like Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, Mariano José de Larra and the dramatist José Zorrilla, author of Don Juan Tenorio. Before them may be mentioned the pre-romantics José Cadalso and Manuel José Quintana.

The romantic period help spark the minds of individuals to think more analytically and intellectually. Poets in particular used imagination and personal experiences to make the reader think more when they read their poems. This change in thinking was thought to be needed because of all the political, economic, and social changes taking place like the industrial revolution. In music as well as poetry, artist used lyrics to express their inter most feelings about the world around them.

  19. Mark Joseph Sacatropez San Juan:

The period of Romanticism began in 1789. It was at this point in history, that many countries such as England, France, and the United States experienced revolutions. The first revolution came about when war between the United States and England, better known as the Revolutionary War, was declared. It is said that it was this war that jumpstarted other revolutions such as the French Revolution. In France, a king was overthrown, a dictator by the name of Napoleon Bonaparte took control, and the masses were unhappy. England became involved in our affairs and eventually went to war with France. The people’s response to this: romanticism.
With the change from being an agricultural nation to an industrial nation, many countries began to grow. With many, new factories for people to work in, human labor began to dwindle away and the journey to stronger economies throughout the world was well underway. It was with these changes that sparked the minds of many bright, creative, Romantic individuals. This idea or belief of Romanticism was quite different and challenged what many were used to: expressing an appreciation of their environment and nature, developing a sense of connection to their country – nationalism, and an acceptance of the incomprehensible and mysterious aspects of life.
This idea of Romanticism was intended to transform the masses into much more imaginative, different breed of individuals. It demands people to think outside the box – to question everything they have been taught. With artists such as William Wordsworth and Percy Bysshe Shelley and their clever initiatives underlying their works respectively, they were able to appeal to the masses the need for a change in atmosphere in life. Wordsworth once wrote, “Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive, but to be young was heaven”, as a response to the horrendous war that was happening at the time. His simply put creative piece roared the values of a Romantic. Romanticism began to gain momentum with great minds at this point in history and eventually made its way abroad to far countries; one of those countries being America.
In America, almost all citizens embraced Romanticism with open arms. With the many great events in American history such as gaining independence from England and the Industrial Revolution setting the pace for change, Romantics believed they could take things into overdrive. With the Americans feeling a sense of connection to their nation, the values Romantic artists conveyed in their works were easy to grasp. One Ralph Emerson’s works began to convey philosophy to the people and even went against religion; which, many were previously afraid of expressing. Books began to spring about throughout the country and made the transition from being imprisoned by religion to a unique, free-thinking individual much smoother.
From ignorantly accepting what they were told was right and passively breezing through life to thinking for oneself and questioning what was claimed to be the truth, the people began to instill the values of Romanticism in their hearts. Hope for a brighter tomorrow came about for both men and women; especially with the latter who were still discriminated against. With Romanticism on their side, tomorrow was sure to come sooner.

Romanticism was a revolution to art, it changed the way people thought and lived in society. It was created during the 18th century as many events where going on like the French revolution as well as the industrial revolution and a war against Britain and France. During the romantic period there were new ideas created for writers, musicians, artists, poets and political and social, and philosophical thinkers. This helped them express their feelings, and motivation towards art. These people focused their art on what had to do with nature or emotions. This also helped them bring out there inner selves. This was the moment where these artist let themselves be examines, let themselves be shown as for what they truly are. Neoclassicism was then brought to the world of art. It focused on a person’s view in things such as life, and the way of thinking. This was then practiced often and brought brilliant informative poems that were read. This period was known for literature and poems were most of the things that were being written at the time. William Blake was a poet that found his inner self and wrote about it in his poems. He had a way to make people think through his poems. There were many others including Blake that made them so different from others was the way they add the tone. Their work contains succulent meaning toward it that you can understand the tone and emotion in them. You feel as if you would be the person in the poem, which is brilliant. Their poems contain literary devices like parallelism, and repetition this add the emotion in the tone, to make the reader understand where they’re coming from. The main part of romanticism in poetry started with the help of Alexander Pope. Pope's style of poetry was not the most excellent form of the art., but the Romantic Movement that rose to prominence in early 19th-century England was unsure towards his work. A poet who was more known as a first romantic poet or should I say considered was a pioneer named Joseph Warton. He kept the idea that imagination was one of main qualities of being a poet. There were many poets that influenced little by little what you call art today during the romantic period. This helped to grow knowledge into individuals and the way you need to pass on the knowledge these poets carried. These poets used imagination to make the reader understand more and think about what they’re really trying to say. As of today, it is still being used like in music; that I consider to be poetry, it has it parallelism and it carries words that figure out what the artist is trying to tell you in his/her words. This era made a huge impact in the world, that it still has effect today. It’s not used often but I still believe there are ways where it’s still being used. It sends motivation to the artist to make their listeners get their point of view. They cause to use descriptive stanzas that make people relate to their lives. Romanticism is like the world full of races, they impact in many different ways as it has impacted in art. Art is what makes this world keep going and it will never stop.

  21. The Romantic Period was an artistic, literary, and intellectual movement that began in late 18th century Europe. Chronologically, it really began with the radical French Revolution of 1789 and ended with Parliamentary reforms that served as political bases for modern Britain in 1832. It was essentially an uprising against the norms of the Age of Enlightenment and against science’s version of defining nature. What really gave the Romantic period its momentum was the Industrial Revolution. It unleashed political, economic, and social forces to make some of the most radical changes ever. Additionally, the sprak of revolutions and poets in the Romantic period inspired more people in society to become radical thinkers of the revolutionary age.
The French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution fostered significant impact on the effects of the Romantic period. The French revolution was a more radical revolution had struck a nerve in England’s confidence when they demonstrated how capable it was for them to overthrow an anointed king using democratic tactics. It spurred a revolutionary fever of the triumph of radical ideals in all aspects of life across Europe. Even Democratic liberalists and idealists like Wordsworth had vehemently advocated the French Revolution. The Industrial Revolution had an even greater hand in feeding the common folks with hope and vigor for emphasis on new ideals and emotions in the Romantic period. The Industrial Revolution, which first had a positive impact on England, transitioned the economy from production of handmade goods into vast production of products through machinery and factories. With more factories came more workers in cities and harsher living conditions. Also, laissez-faire, also known as “tyranny” in today’s society, was the philosophy of no government meddling in people’s business affairs was maintained. As a result, the people in society would’ve focused more towards radical ideas to look forward to.
There were so many literary developments in this period that were influenced by the works of Romantic writers. The six main poets who were associated with literary and intellectual ideals in this period include William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, and George Gordon. They all manifested their own ideas regarding the term, “Romanticism” and were devoted to inducing change. They greatly believed that the power of literature can have a significant impact on the mentalities of the people in the 18th century. Inspired by the political and social conflicts in England and during the war, they changed their writing styles from the formal, public verse of 18th century Augustans to more private, spontaneous, lyric poetry. Lyrics were Romantics’ belief in imagination over reason to react to changing forces. They also used the following 3 meanings of “Romantic” to incorporate the elements of human nature and imagination into their literary works of art: A child’s sense of wonder; social idealism; and adaptation to change.
These poets mainly used symbolism in their pieces of literature, since there were aspects of nature and inspiration from the wretched society that influenced their ideas for their poems. They wanted to use symbolism to give their poems more depth and insight into their convictions about the poor working and social conditions in everyday life during their existence. Usually, their poems express melancholy tones to reflect their perception of the harsh conditions in the industrialized society. However, sometimes, they would use light tones to emphasize the feeling of bliss as a result of taking value in the intertwining of human emotions and nature.

The romantic period started along with the French Revolution in 1789. The Romanic period was a time where there was a lot of change going on not only throughout the government but with the arts such as poetry and music as well. This era was especially hard for everyone during the first half of it but as people became more acquainted to the change that was happening they were accepting of it throughout the second half. This period changed the lives of many, firstly because of the French revolution.
The French Revolution cause many changes in society because of the absolute monarchy that had one ruled France collapsing. Some of the people that were happy about this were the middle class working people, such as the people who were poets. Many poets that were well known and are well known today had shown how happy they were about the revolution through their poetry. Since the revolution, people were able to express themselves more freely and they were inspired to do so since they weren’t being oppressed anymore. People wrote poems about their life and the regular working man in the beginning. The industrial revolution one again changed how people saw things.
England was the first place that started to experience the industrial revolution. They started to put in factories so that the products that were once made by hand could now be made by machines; this made production a lot faster. Because of this, city populations started to grow and the communal land that was owned by many farmers was bought out by only one person. The people that ended up buying all the land usually made it in to parks. Because of all the people buying multiple peoples land there are many people that are landless now. Because of the city’s growing so much the movement known as the “romantic movement” happened. This movement was basically people stressing the importance of nature.
People came to the realization that people and nature are very similar in many ways. Many poets started to go out into the country places with no signs of the public so they could become one with nature. This new way of writing helped them with their “spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling” which made their poems become so good. It also helped them concur the true romantic form of writing which was being able to present imaginative experiences as well as powerful thinking. The reason they went out to the rural or country areas was because people couldn’t touch their inner most thoughts with the hustle and bustle of the city. When you are in nature nothing could touch you. This is where you could think of those crazy new ideas.
The romantic era created a lot of new things, many of them not mentioned rite now but the form of literature was one of the most well known things from this time. It is amazing to know that all the styles of writing and what they wrote about came from things inspired by the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. The journey of the Romantic era ended in 1832 but the things we got out of it will live on forever. It truly changed the way poetry would have been written today if all that stuff didn’t happen.

The Romantic period started with French revolution and ended with Parliamentary reforms. Romanticism was an artistic, intellectual, literary movement during the ending of the 18th century in Europe. Even though there was a wars going on Europe and things were turning to turmoil out came this enlightenment. Romanticism is a term often used to talk about certain poets, writers and musicians during the end of 18th and the beginning of 19th century. But it was more of a revolt against the enlightenment. This counter- enlightenment had more to do with imagination and feelings instead of reason like they did in The Enlightenment. The word romantic come from the root romance .Today that word is a negative label used to describe some writing. Not only was there the French revolution but there was also the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution was major change during that period it changed manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture. The industrial revolution was an innovative thought, instead of using your hands to make goods why not use machines or instead of using horses to travel why not trains? Romanticism had the same thought instead of using rational thought when writing poems why not use imagination instead of logic. Romantics preferred natural and personal artistic themes they rejected rationalism and religious thought.
Romanticism was very cultural and artistic era it influenced many things such as poetry. The romanticism era was mostly identified with these 6 poets William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, and George Gordon .These 6 poets had no political power but they truly believed in the force of literature. These Romantics were mind poets that wanted a deeper understanding of the bond between humans and the world of senses. Although they used imagination each romantic poet had a different view of that imagination. Wordsworth believed that poets were special while William Blake thought poets were bards .Poets such as William Wordworth wrote the Lyrical ballads and even made a new type of poetry.
The romantic Era was filled with many wars and revolutions like The American Revolution, French revolution .These wars gave people strong emotions which led to new types of art, literature which was known as the Romanticism. Poets such as Woodsword traveled to France during their revolution for some inspiration in his writing. Works from the romantic era were unique and new buy they all included three characteristics: love for nature, nationalism, sense of the supernatural .The reason why their work was so different because it spoke to regular people .Their work was for anyone to see which was new to everyone. All of the things before Romanticism was for only people of high class and were wealthy.
The European Romantic Movement reached America in the early 19th century. American Romanticism was as idiosyncratic and mixed as the Europeans. American romantics tried to be very individualistic they used perception in their writing, and had the notion that nature was good and humans were corrupt .Romanticism was very popular in American politics and philosophy.

  24. Romanticism is an artistic, literary and intellectual movement that originated in the second half of the 18th century in Europe, and gained strength in reaction to the Industrial Revolution. It first started off with two friends who needed to raise money for a trip to Germany. Their names are Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Wordsworth. They many of their poems which later became the most important and life changing poems. The many wars such as the French Revolution, American Revolution, Seven Day War, and French and Indian War were huge contributors to this romantic era. The feeling of war time over flooded with literature and began the blooming of the romantic period. The Romantic movement in America created a new literary genre that continues to influence American writers. Romantic literature was personal, intense, and portrayed more emotion than ever seen in neoclassical literature. They also put more effort into the psychological development of their characters.
Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, George Gordon, and Lord Byron were the ''second'' generation of romantics. Romantics turned formal, public verses to a more private, spontaneous, lyrical poetry. It basically focused more on the human mind and nature. Imagination can be stimulated by both nature and the mind itself, like a kind of desire. A romantic poet has greater knowledge of nature and a more comprehensive soul. Romanticism changed the way many view their daily lives and changed literature forever. Not only did it change literature, but also music, such as folk. Romanticism also emerged new ideas and in the process led to the emergence of positive voices that were beneficial for the society. Romantics strove towards literature and arts that were for everyone, not just wealthy aristocracy.
The Romantic Movement affected not just literature, but all of the arts, from music to painting, from sculpture to architecture.During the New Regime, on 1792, the September massacre took place in France and aroused many conversations. One year later, on 1793, France and England declared war on each other. Napoleon emerged as the first dictator. He was a tyrant and was ruthless. From 1802 to 1803, England began a long war against Napoleon. After England defeated Napoleon, there was a ''dawn of the new era'' or the industrial revolution.
England was the first nation to experience the effects of the industrial revolution. The use of romance usually attempts to go back beyond the refinements. Romantic writers feel that their work is more genuine and express their feelings more. Romantics does not only mean emotions, but also human nature. Romantic can mean three things, A child's sense of wonder, social idealism, and adaption to change. A child's sense of wonder signifies a fascination with youth and innocence. Social idealism is the view of the cyclical development of human society, and lastly, adaptation to change suggests an ability to adapt to change and acceptance of change rather than a rigid rejection of it.

The Romantic Period started in the late 18th century through the early 19th century. This is when a new culture of literate was born, Romanticism. There are two sets of three very important poets whose names are William Blake, William Wornsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. These three writers were born before the Romantic period began and had lived through most of the entire period. The last three, who is to be called The "Second Generation," their names are Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Treats and George Gordon. Then a huge change came onto the scene of humans, The Industrial revolution. The Industrial Revolution was one of the biggest improvements to how life was lived, though had it's problems it was still extremely good for the human race.

The French Revolution played a big role in the Romantic Period because it represented their worst fears, to over throw the King by a democratic mob. The French Revolution started in France with the storming of the prison called The Bastille; while on the other hand, The American Revolution caused England to lose its only thirteen colonies.

In the year of 1793 France and England Declared war on each other. After a brief peace from 1802 - 1803, England began a long war against Napoleon. Napoleon was caught himself sent packing to Belgium after losing the battle.

England was the first nation in the world to experience the affects of the Industrial Revolution. England's populations increased but with desperate living conditions. Romantic is a new kind of poetry with a good change. It brings the mystery of imagination and uses imagery to help readers believe what they are reading.

The Romantic Period not only helped in literature by all kinds of art forms as well. In my honest opinion I feel that if there was no Romantic period I believe English today and how we learn it as student would be totally different. The writers and poets of the Romantic period are the the God Fathers of writing and literature just like how some people would say right now that Jay-Z is the God Father of rap and hip-hop music. In the English book it says that Romantic means it is a Child's sense of wonder, social idealism and the adaptation to change. This period changed not only the art form of literature and writing but also how us students, teachers and people think. We picture things when we read, we have visions of what we want to write.

There is a lot of meaning with words now. Like in "Tyger" the tiger was a sign of fire or violence or hatred. The stripes of the tiger used imagery to show flames within the forest where the tiger's setting was. The Lamb's story was more on the soft side of things. Where signs of peace and comfortless appeared.

If you ask me what "Romantic" means I would say that it reminds me of a date with a girl with candles, roses candy at a great place to eat. If you ask one of the six poets from the Romantic Time period "What is Romantic to you?" They would most likely say It was the time when a new form of art, writing and literature arrive into the late 1800's and the early 1900's.

  27. European Romanticism started when the French Revolution begun in 1789. William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, and George Gordon, Lord Byron were the first six poets of the Romanticism Era. The French Revolution begun in July 14, 1789. It became to be a tense sight to England when enraged French citizens overthrow the king. English conservatives thought that the French Revolution was a triumph of a radical principle. The French Revolution was an uprising against the upper class social and political terms of the Age of Enlightenment. It was also a reaction against the scientific revolution against the scientific rationalization of a turn. The events that happened in the war, French Revolution, laid the background from which both Romanticism and the Counter Enlightenment emerged. Romanticism stressed intuition, imagination, and feeling, to a point that has led to some Romantic thinkers such as Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne. There are other famous poets who were inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Romanticism was brought to America around 19th century and it was just as complex and idiosyncratic as it was in Europe. The American Romantic movement became a huge style to New England Transcendentalism which described as a less restraining relationship between God and universe. American Romanticism contained the distinct and defied against the internment of neoclassicism and pious custom. These very well-known wars, Seven Year’s War, French and Indian War, American Revolution, and the French Revolution, along with the administrative and common uproar that went along with them, served as the experience for Romanticism. The works of the Romantic Era are an immense and distinctive collection of literacy work. It was also varied from former works in that they spoke to the public people. Edgar Allan Poe is one of the famous poets in the American Romanticism era. He wrote tales of macabre and balladic poetry were the most influential in France than at America. Nathaniel Hawthorne was another famous poet of the American Romanticism era and he wrote a fully developed romantic American novel with atmosphere and melodrama. Gothic literature was also a big part of the American Romanticism and one of its poets was Washington Irving who wrote “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle”. These gothic stories were then followed by James Fenimore Cooper’s work, Leatherstocking Tales. The story of “Leatherstocking Tales” is about “noble savages” which is similar to Rosseau’s theorized philosophy, “The Last of the Mohicans”. Transcendentalist writers, such as Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson, later came to the American Romanticism era and still show elements of influence and imagination, as Walt Whitman’s romantic realism. Women, like Emily Dickenson, were also part of the American Romanticism era. Dickenson wrote Moby dick with Herman Melville can be taken as epitomes of American Romantic literature; however psychological and social realism was competing with romanticism in the novel. There are a lot more writers in the world who are into Romanticism during that time period.

  28. The Romanticism Era began in the late mid 18th century. It also gave a major improvement to the Industrial Revolution. It had a way bigger impact on education and such. Literature Developments during the Romantic Period are poems for example where when poets from anywhere would give the word romantic a different definition of it. So there is no real meaning of romanticism. But it can also mean sometime very negative, for example a negative term of it would be that is a negative label used to describe sentimental writing. This kind of makes me wonder and think if the poets would be bullied in a way and people would call them derogatory homosexual comments or they looked at it as something beautiful the world has never seen. You know what I mean. Also, Lyrical Ballads are a new kind of poetry when it comes to Romanticism and they did not remain unnoticed or anonymous for long. Also, many poets in the Romanticism Era would always say it was a big mistake to think of Romantics as “nature poets”. They are more than that. The modern sense of a romantic character may be expressed in Byronic ideals of a gifted, perhaps misunderstood loner , creatively following the dictates of his inspiration rather than the standard ways of contemporary society. Six of the Romantic poets in the chapter that we are reading all of them in their own ways, are deeply aware of their revolutionary lines. The Romantic Era is a time in history that was surrounded by war. The Seven Years' War, the French and Indian War, and the American Revolution which directly preceded the French Revolution. The works of the Romantic Era are a vast and unique collection of literary works. However, they can all be said to have at least these characteristics: A love of nature, a sense of nationalism, and a sense of exoticism/the supernatural. These simple characteristics can be linked back to the fact that these works were being written in time of political turmoil. Also one of Romanticisms key idea it its style was nationalism which became the fuse of Romantic art and political philosophy. Many artists became very famous and well known during this time. Some musicians would be Mozart and Beethoven. Edgar Allan Poe was one that wrote their literature on the supernatural during the Romantic times. Also, William Blake was a poet and a painter who was a large impact in British Romanticism and began to be very popular in this world. Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American, was another influential writer that came to be during the romantic times. He wrote more about philosophy and moved away from religion. Religion was the enemy to romanticism. Not many Americans were that well known the way Ralph was because the Romanticism Era was owned by the Europeans many of the times. During the Romantic period there was an increase in female authors as well. This can be attributed to the fact that this period was submerged in wartime. The women were at home, without a way to express their feelings, fight for the cause, or even connect to those around them.524

Romanticism is a artistic and intellectual movement originating in Europe in the late 18th century and characterized by a heightened interest in nature, emphasis on the individual's expression of emotion and imagination, departure from the attitudes and forms of classicism, and rebellion against established social rules and conventions. The European Romantic movement reached America in the early 19th century. American Romanticism was just as multifaceted and individualistic as it was in Europe. Like the Europeans, the American Romantics demonstrated a high level of moral enthusiasm, commitment to individualism and the unfolding of the self, an emphasis on intuitive perception, and the assumption that the natural world was inherently good, while human society was filled with corruption.
In literature, Romanticism found recurrent themes in the evocation or criticism of the past, the cult of "sensibility" with its emphasis on women and children, the heroic isolation of the artist or narrator, and respect for a new, wilder, untrammeled and "pure" nature. Furthermore, several romantic authors, such as Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne, based their writings on the supernatural and human psychology. Romanticism also helped in the emergence of new ideas and in the process led to the emergence of positive voices that were beneficial for the marginalized sections of the society.
An early German influence came from Johan Wolfgang Von Goethe, whose 1774 novel The Sorrows of Young Werther had young men throughout Europe emulating its protagonist, a young artist with a very sensitive and passionate temperament. At that time Germany was a multitude of small separate states, and Goethe's works would have a seminal influence in developing a unifying sense of nationalism. In Spain, the Romantic movement developed a well-known literature with a huge variety of poets and playwrights. The most important Spanish poet during this movement was Jose de Esprocenda. After him there were other poets like Gustavo Adolfo Becquer, Mariano Jose de Larra and the dramatist Jose Zorrilla, author of Don Juan Tenorion.

Romanticism, the Romantic Era or the Romantic Period, was a movement during the middle of the 18th century in Europe where new arts, literary, and intellectual improvement that eventually contributed to the Industrial Revolution. The new arts in Europe revolted against the social and political “Age of Enlightenment” and began to react against the science-free nature. These new arts are mostly in forms of visual arts, music, and literature.
Romanticism happened around times where wars also happened: Seven Years’ War, French and Indian War, and American Revolution. The war created many strong feelings from the people like it never had before, which created new type of arts and literature. These arts and literature all have a love for nature, a sense of nationalism, and the sense of exoticism or the supernatural. Instead of striving towards the wealthy, they were created for everyone; they want to connect everyone who were equal, not the ones who were above them because they were the ones who started the war.
During the Romantic movement, arts and literature were created out of nothing but from the inner mind of the individual. This is the perfect form of literary authorship which contrasted the old traditions for art, plagiarism, which copied previous art in order to develop the creative process. It focused on the idea of turning the author’s beliefs of originality into the institution of originality.
Instead of following the neoclassicism taught at schools, J.M.W. Turner, Francisco Goya, and Engene Delacroix countered this by their free handling of paint. Their arts would reflect from the ancient ruins from the old worlds; there are also works that uses the Gothic feelings of death and decay. Nature was considered as the powerful thing that can overcome everything that men have created, which is why they use American scenes and landscapes. Visual arts also had huge connections with the literatures that was created in the Romantic Era.
During the 19th century, Mozart, Hadyn, and Beethoven were considered the three Romantic Composers because they represented the musical Romantic period. The traditional of the music of Romanticism includes the use of folk music, which broaden the Romantic nationalism of arts. Beethoven was famous for his new style of composing music which made more people explore the unexplored side of music composing. At first he was criticized for his loud dynamics, but he was encouraged by the fact that it was attracting audience.
For literatures, authors like Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne focused their genres on supernatural, occult, and human psychology. Romanticism helped developed new positive ideas that were beneficial for the improvement of different parts of the society. Thomas Chatterton, the first Romantic poet in English, used his genre of mysteries to bring up new ideas during the Romanticism. Some German Romantic writers like E.T.A. Hoffmann focused on the idea of using dark and gothic as its primary element. Besides German, there were also ideas that came from Spain, Brazil, Great Britain, U.S. and Portugal also contributed to Romanticism in Europe.
