English IV Journal #1 (Archetypes & Heroes)

Beowulf is an ancient tale about a hero who faces violence, horror, and even death to save people from danger. The epic took place many years ago, but this story still speaks to people today, perhaps because so many of us are in need of a rescuer... a hero. Take a moment to invent and develop a contemporary hero. You must create your own hero. Describe your hero, and analyze him/her using these questions *What sort of evil or oppression does your hero confront? * WHY does he/she confront evil? What is the motivation? *What virtues does your hero represent?

27 comments:

  1. My hero would be a political hero. One that does not side with the bad and does not give into the bribery that companies and corporations would pay him/her to do. Certain things that the public would object. S/he would not be biased towards no one, except equality and the rights of the people. My hero would confront the modern evil in our society that blinds us with lies and "truths" so that we do not make change... stopping all political evil and criminals. There are many out there but the large numbers is no excuse to even say it is not possible to stop it all. Every government has its flaws, but ours has more organized ones.My hero would stop all propaganda, and give more education to people that want a chance to succeed in life. Without virtues, a hero cannot rise to be what they claim to be... that is, a hero. S/he would have strong convictions and views towards doing the right thing. A hero would sense that something is not right. Looking at the past is a great example of the long line of heroes we have had yet we talk about them today to remind us that one is bound to make change.

  2. My hero would be the type of hero who doesn't tolerate and violence in any way, shape, or form. She would be a beautiful woman who is strong physically and mentally. She'll have the super power of reading minds to stop people with malevolent thoughts before they can do bad. She'll also hace speed to get to them as fast as possible. My hero confronts this type of evil because simply, if no one can do it, she will. She follows the saying, "Nothing gets done the right way, unless I do it." So she simply does these things by herself since the cops or government can't stop black on black violence, domestic violence, rape, child abuse, etc. The motivation is that she's been through a lot throughout her life and witnessed things herself with her own four eyes (she has glasses) and decides she's fed with no one being able to end it. She wants to end this world wide. The virtues my hero represent are strength, power, and respect

  3. My hero would be one that could bring people together for the greater good. S/he would have conversationalist skills to bring others to compromise an understanding between each other weather it be race issues, gender problems, or any other worldly problems that need fixing. the motivation for my hero is so that we all will eventually be living in a world where we all get along in order to advance to our fullest potential, without destroying the world in which we inhabit. the virtues my hero represents are friendliness, extreme patience, and an uplifting personality.

  4. My hero would be someone who saves anyone that's having family problems. Those that might be in danger and just dont know what to do. Since she's a young teenager girl and has have some experience towards physical abuse and emotional abuse. Which motivates her to end it. Her super powers are having the best listening ears to hear if anyone is in danger. Also she would be someone you can easily talk to and will always have something good to say. By just hearing them cry or scream for help she will be their to rescue them from the evil. My hero would confront domestic violence of any kind. Some virtues she represents are caring, justice, and courage.

  5. My caped crusader would resemble something like batman, he would always help those in need or in danger no matter how big or small my hero would protect and defend the people of its town. My hero would manly focus on cleaning the streets of the city and fighting against crimes such as robbery or drugs, my hero’s main purpose of crime fighting would be to make the city a better place to live in for all people. My hero would use non-lethal crime fighting tactics to capture and turn in the town’s criminals, for my hero’s super power he would have super strength and be able to see at night so he can ensure that even at night the streets are a safe place for all.

  6. My masked hero would be someone that has courage, potential, agility, and flexibility. During the morning he/she can be a regular person, but during at night he/she can be watching over us, finding crimes and solving murder sights and they have no weapons their super powers are; super strength, invulnerability, healing factor, superhuman senses, superhuman tracking and superhuman mentality with all these gifts that the hero has she/he has no point of using any type of weapons what so ever. Some of the heroes have fear into the enemy, yet they still have the courage to fight against the evil villain and save the love one or saving twenty other life's. Heroes sacrifice their own life to save people. My hero is a symbol of hope and faith so the people can be save from harm and that hero will be ready for anything that comes in to her/his way.

  7. My hero would be someone who would save people from getting robbed. He would be able to fly, have super strength, and be able to read minds. He would be stopping burglars because he at one point was robbed at gunpoint and has been angry at his attackers ever since. He wants to make his town a safer place because he has a daughter and he doesn’t want anyone to hurt her. He has been in the town for 35 years and the time it started to get bad is when a lot of young people moved in the city. My hero represents kindness and he is caring. He has a lot of courage and is willing to do anything to help. He is the person everyone wants to be like and is the epitome of a good man.

  8. The hero I would develop would be someone like Captain America. He was a normal human living a average life but was very into the the US Army trying to serve his country. He wanted to be in the Army but he didn't have the physical conditions to join but he sure did have the brain of a true American hero. He was a skinny young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum of American scientist in order to aid the United States war effort in any near future combat with any country. Also he would fight crime against robbers, murders, and any type of evil that faces him . My hero would wear a costume that represent peace , and is armed with an indestructible body armor from the future. He fights with his bear hand against any crimanals who try to bring America down and never uses weapons to kill people he just makes them go to sleep as in knocked out. My hero is motivated by the people living in America knowing they can have peace with no crimanals. He would serve his country as a American Soldier that everyone in America would look up too and fight any crime in the city.

  9. The hero that I came up with is not your typical masked hero or heroine. My hero's main superpowers include invisibility, being able to read minds, travel through physical objects/walls, super speed and strength. No one will be able to physically see him because he rescues and serves justice in his invisible state. One of the main reasons for this is because my hero is extremely selfless and humble and would rather keep his identity a secret instead of being praised for his actions. To keep him energetic especially when he is needed during the night, my hero says, "I am who I am. I am a hero." When he isn't invisible, this hero looks like any other 20 year old male with a well-built figure, light tanned skin, thick framed glasses, and messy ash-brown hair. He senses danger through the lenses of his glasses and his ability to hear suspicious noises helps him stay alert. When danger is about in the city, he swipes his index finger onto the lenses of his glasses that turn him invisible and he uses his superhuman abilities to rescue the person in danger as quick as possible. The other forms of evil that he confronts include physical and verbal bullying in schools. The reason for why he takes care of the youth especially, is because as a child, he was constantly bullied for wearing such thick framed glasses. He believes that no one, especially a child who is just beginning their life, should be put down and be discouraged. The virtues that my hero represents include hope, integrity, spirit and humility.

  10. We are all in need in some type of hero; one that can save us from the violence that surrounds us. And that is where my hero comes in. Since my visit to Mexico I was witness of the violence of the Narcos. My hero will be have to be a brave strong brave man, who isn't afraid of losing his life for the city he is trying to protect. The reason my hero started combating the Narcos was because when he was a small innocent boy his family was a victim of their evil work. The main chief of the Narcos sliced both of his parents necks and left a horrible bloody memory that scared my hero for the rest of his life. Since that tragedy he had grown with revenge. Now he is out protecting all of the families from his city making sure that not one single family member dies due the violence of the Narcos, and he also makes sure that none of the teen agers joins this horrible gang of Narcos. Not only he wants to get revenge from all of the Narcos he wants to live in a better place where we can all sleep safe and sound, with no worries.

  11. My hero would actually be a heroine with similar characteristics to Wonder Woman, for example caring & strong. Using only her knowledge of the city and her previous self defense training as her only weapons, my hero would save the day from evil but she would also encourage women to be stronger and have more confidence in themselves. The evil she would be fighting to lessen daily struggles like robberies, muggings, and other crimes. This wouldn’t be done for the glory but for the happiness for the people and so everyone can rest assure they live in a safe place. Motivation would always be the people and the love she has for the city she is protecting. My hero symbolizes strength, courage and simply love. She will not wear a mask so that the people know that a normal person like them selves can help fix the city. Not all heroes have super powers meaning anyone can be a hero a person or even a group of people if they try to help change their surroundings.

  12. My hero would have to be someone who stands up for anything and everything right. Not only someone who comes and saves the day from a monster, but someone who is truly versatile and who can help with any given situation. I can classify my hero as not your typical buff guy, but someone who is there for everyone to not only solve problems but complete things. The evil my hero will face is all the big daily problems that aren't being solved very easily he'll be the mediator to help everyone at anytime. The motivation is to get the satisfaction of helping the people who are in need of help. Someone who can truly use a hero at that given point in time thats my true belief of a true hero. My hero has numerous virtues ones like hope, faith, strong minded and ready to be a true hero.

  13. Growing up as a child a hero was a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent gifted with a great strength or ability; but as I grew older I grasped that a hero is a person who has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. My idyllic hero is an intense, unbiased woman, who will offer me beneficial direction through life, conceptually and internally. Living within a wise spirit to advise me on my actions and thoughts will make my life one hundred times better. Having that one person that knows me more than I know myself can rescue me from altercations, immoral choices, and regretful feelings. My hero confronts concealed insecurities that are hidden under humans’ thick skin as well as corrupted beliefs that affect family, society, and life itself. Her exceptional abilities are reading minds, and remaining uplifted throughout souls creating them to feel like a queen on the throne. The public’s eye is based on decisions, and people form decisions on how they feel and what they “think” is considered ethical, however, my hero will know what’s ethical because her principles can only generate relevance. Her inducement is wisdom, as she got older she matured to learn how to adopt to this idea we call life. I find that I am most affected by those whose greatness enables me to believe in the greatness of myself, through the example of their quiet strength.

  14. My hero would be the ideal hero for me. He would be able to save anyone or anything regarding on their age, height, gender, ect. He would face the cold world by himself; he would not be scared of speaking his mind for those who are scared. Not only mentally will he save the world but physically too. What would motivate my hero would be that he came from all of the community below that he can go on and help the rest of the world around him. What keep him motivated are all the cold shoulders he has ever gotten from the people who look against him which are his enemies. As well as the people keep he motivated with love and support. Some virtues that my hero most defiantly represents are charismatic, peaceful, perseverance. To push until he sees justice, to his eyes and most importantly the people around him self.

My hero would confront anyone who was not treating another person fairly. She would confront others becuase she wants everyone to have a good life without being bullied or abused. She would be there to listen to anyone that needed a person to talk to. Her motivation is to try to stop all abuse and make people treat each other fairly. She did not like seeing other people being hurt or crying, it hurt her inside. Everytime she was that, it made her more driven to help everyone to make sure everyone was happy. She believed that everyone was special in their own way and everyone could succeed they just needed the right boost. My hero would telepathically know that little boost that everyone needed to feel better. Even if the person never knew how to make themselves feel better, she always found a way. Overall my hero always wanted to make people feel better and not see anyone hurt or abused.

  16. My Hero would protect people in danger because my hero would have strenth, knowledge and invisability skills. He would use strength to move heavy things, knowledge because he has to come up with a plan on how to capture bad people and how he is going to go around to different situations, lastly invisability skills so that no one knows where he is coming from its more like a unexpected surprise. My hero would be a help around the world whenever he is needed because he would be a friendly and brave super hero who helps anyone and everyone that needs his help.

  17. My heroine would be someone like elastic girl. She will not fight physically; she will fight to keep her family together. Now a days many families are broken apart, and it seems normal to society. It may not cause physical pain, but it does cause internal pain. I see how people think of a hero as someone who will benefit the outside world; but where is the hero that will rescue you in the inside world at home? My heroine will be full of virtues. She is going to blast out love and peace. This hero will be full of knowledge and will rescue your heart from the evil depresion. Heroes always rescue what we value the most. I value my family, I value the ones that I love. The importance of family is what will motivate my hero.

  18. The type of hero to save the day, an ideal risk taker which does not fret since he is brave, fears nothing as it is the triumph that he craves. Ineffable - for he is not seen - this hero is far from commercial or even comical. He does not rely on a “secret identity”; fore he is always in a “be about it” mindset. He is a reliable schemer, prying on evil doings. Terrorized citizens call on to him; imparting prayers for the hero to “get ‘em”. Thus he always answers, “Already got ‘em”. This hero’s motivation is simply from w/in; a representation of the unspoken. Only weakness? Himself. He keeps to himself; no robin on the side or anyone else for that matter, on the sly. Reality sestet to faze him, he stays high. My hero does right by his owns means and since those means are usually not the ones abided by society, he is not seen often; yet he’s there. My hero is always there.

  19. My hero would be that type of person that no one wants to let go. The one that will always come when you are need of any type of help. For example, that guy who always steal your lunch money or when you have a flat tire in the middle of nowhere or better yet, when the big giant green monster in the Bay attacks San Leandro High. My hero is the person that gives unconditional love to everyone and anyone who is willing to be helped by this person. My hero would be the type that you're willing to lean on and you would be willing to do the same back. My hero would conquer all the negativity that everyone has to say to each other. For example, just giving them a positive attitude or a simple warm hello will change everything. This is my type of hero. The one that everyone would want behind their back every step of the way.

  20. A hero that I imagine would be someone who has special abilties like thunder, super strenght, and flight, to fight evil tyrants ruling a nation with fear. My hero who is named, R2DXHumbaba, is motivated to fight world hunger and tyranny becuase when he was a kid, he was poor, and looked through the street for food. His land was ruled by the evil King Burger.King Burger was the person who had the power to give or take food from whoever he wanted in his land. R2DXHumbaba was raised in the jungle with wolves and he grown up as a fighter. At the age of twenty, R2DXHumbaba used King Burger's enemies against him. R2DXHumbaba fought along side with Ronald from the land of McDonald.Ronald hated King Burger because he sacked multiple villages in the land of McDonald. R2DXHumbaba and Ronald was successful, King Burger could not hold off the forces of two people wanting a change for the better. R2DXHumbaba and Ronald help give food to all the poor starving people. R2DXHumbaba showed the values of generosity, love, perseverance, and responsibility.

  22. Wow. A hero in today's society? In our world of corrupt officials and juiced ballplayers, this seems very unlikely. I'll try, though...

A modern hero (different from the working class hero) would be imperfect, just like any society. The modern hero would be, to fill the comic book hero quota, extremely athletic. School kids everywhere would idolize this person for their athletic exploits on any court or field they wished. Kids wouldn't be the only ones idolizing this person, however.

Super-athletic wouldn't cut it as a political hero, however (ask the Govenator). As a result, this person would have to be incredibly smart, with crazy good communication skills. They would have to be able to dedicate time to being a politician, so being a year-long athlete is out of the question. This person would be extremely likable, which would help this person be successful in the political world.

This hero would not be the president, nor a public figure, such as a year-round athlete. Rather, the hero would be deployed by our government to negotiate with harms, and, if they couldn't, try to defeat it. The hero wouldn't work alone, however. No one being, real or fake, could manage a country as big and unwieldy as ours, It would take a group to work alongside the hero. With all the prerequisites that are needed, a modern hero would never exist.

But, if such a person had to exist, a good place to start would be a mix of mid-1980's Michael Jordan and Barack Obama.

You would thing with all the new technology and amazing discoveries happening today the world wouldn’t need a hero, WELL… you’re wrong. Seems as though no a days the world has only gotten worst with all the new Generations coming in and the newness of how everything is we are in need for someone to clean up this mess we call a world. That’s when I invented my super cool awesome possum hero named… CrimeTime, cleaning up one crime at a time. CrimeTime is a super hero that helps with the crime going on in the world his goal is to bring down the crime rate so that one day there will be no crime at all. In order for CrimeTime to help the crime has to break all the rules and laws of the local, county and state laws. CrimeTime was choosing to fight the evil back for the world because he was elected by the people and is only used to benefit the people. He’s here to help put a change to this world that we so greatly need. From our youth, the ones that are supposed to be the ones that take over after the older ones are gone, making so many criminal mistakes that could wind them in jail for life. CrimeTime only wants to make the world a safer place like it was a very long time ago. CrimeTime is 6’1, 235 lbs. he is very wise, noble, brave, honest, unbiased, reliable and trustworthy hero. He would bring all those wrong doers to justice so that finally one day we can have peace and order to this world.

  24. If I could create any heroe in this world it wouldn't be your ordinary heroe with super strenght and ability to do everything because I dont believe in super heroes like that. I believe that everyone is a super heroe because it just depends on how they use there knowledge in order to accomplish what they need to accomplish. But also it wouldnt be bad to have the ability to be super strong and not fear nothing, if I had to create a super heroe for his physical apperance he would have to strong cowardless and the ability to do anything but base on real life he would just have to be intellegent, wise and as well brave.

  25. My hero is called Digi'lino and he is a space traveling rebel against the government in the years 3000. He was a common man until he was sent to a training camp and turned into a super solder. He was one of the best solders and climbed the ranks fast. He was loyal without question until he seen what the government was hiding facts that there is life in other planets. The government was going to send solders and capture planets to become a super planet feared around the universe. He then said that was not right because there was a war of the world in earth that causes the planet to have apocalyptic scenery with corruption everywhere. He fears that will happen in the universe if there plans go accordingly. Since he didn’t want this to happen he started to rebel against the government. He is also fighting the corruption the human race has been feed against differences between people. Race has been eliminated due to genetic mutation, so everyone looks similar. Digi'lino has super strength due to a special suit that only he has; he is a super genius and uses his knowledge of computers to create viruses that can cause global blackouts so he can move undetected. He took the values of characters in rare books called comic books. Paper hasn’t been used for hundreds of years since the extinction of mass tree harvesting areas as known forests and jungles. He looks up to current day heroes which give him current day values. When he travels the universe stopping the earth government he spreads the news of comic books and those characters are seen as gods to the different races. He uses these ancient texts as his motivation and even though it’s not human virtues anymore it grew into a universal epitome of a hero.

  26. My hero values morality. He understand and feels for human life and appreciates how humans react to each other because of feelings. As well as an amiable heart, Nam Repus has the ability to move through solid objects and the strength of 500 Bruce Lee's. Thugs, gangsters, and even vigrous magnates who try to manipulate the system have little chance while Mr. Amazing soars through the skies with his supersonic hearing and x-ray vision. His faith and motivation lies within human beings. Nam Repus feeds off of the hope he gives society and the soft love he receives from humans.

  27. Onnipotente is almighty in French, she is a woman who is caring, loving, and helpful but likes to fight for righteousness. My hero would help the oppressed women that are in unhealthy relationships. She has vision powers and can read people’s minds and can feel the pain the women are feeling. My hero will bring justice into that woman by punishing that person that hurt her heart. My hero seen verbal abusive in her family and that’s where she got the strength to help other women that have been or that are being in the same situation. My hero will be sought by woman and she will seek righteousness for them as well!  Her virtues are her strength, power, personality in helping the woman and their children. She will also heal the hearted heart of the mother and children.
