Select one of the following three journal options and complete an organized 3/4 journal complete with a thesis and supporting details.
A- The commandments are changed to suit the pigs’ behavior. Revise some of your school’s rules so that they suit you more. Next to each item, give a short reason the existing rule needs to be changed.
B- Some animals are executed on the spot if they are guilty of a crime. Write a paragraph about your feelings on the death penalty. Do you feel it is ethical? If so, for what crimes should anyone receive the sentence? If not, explain your answer.
C- The animals’ memories are weak, and they easily forget past events and rules. Write a journal describing your earliest memory. What is the importance of memory and remembering things first-hand?

Back when I was only 2 years old, my first memory was being at Safeway and the vegetable sprinklers went on. My second earliest memory that is more relevant to the topic would be my incident with my first lie, which showed me a good reason not to do it and remember not to do it for years to come.
ReplyDeleteIt was a sunny afternoon, but quite lazy, actually, and my mum was sleeping in her room while my dad worked in the yard. I had grown quite addicted to the fruit-flavoured juice boxes of Hi-C, which my parents would always buy for me. They always told me to only have 1 and that I had to ask for permission to drink one. My dad walked in whilst drinking my second Hi-C juice box. He asked me if it was my second, I said yes. He asked if I had asked for permission from my mum, I said yes, even when I didn't, in a panic. My dad went upstairs and asked if I had asked to drink it. My dad ripped the juice box out of my hands and sent me to my room.
From that event, I remembered the truth to lying; It never gets you anywhere, because the lies accumulate and catch up to you in the long run. Since my first lie, I've remembered this one thing: make it good, or don't lie at all, and always think about what you're going to do next, or you might get caught. I've remembered that from over 12 years ago, and it's come in use, not saying that I lie a lot.
Keeping that in mind is also a great way for people to listen to their minds; They can ask themselves: "Do I really want this? Should I say it?" People lie all the time, and just for simple, worthless reasons like cutting in line to get in front of only ONE person for nachos. >.>
my thoughts on the death penalty is good because the person who is being given the death penalty deserves it especially if they killed some one especially like a little kid then yes they do deserve it because it is not right to kill an innocent child. i feel that it is ethical and the crimes that i believe deserve the death penalty is things like murder or abuse because those things are very just unacceptable no matter what no acceptions.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little kid, I was quite adventurous. I would do dangerous things just to see the outcome. My earliest memory was when I was 2 years old. It was a nice, spring day and I was in the back yard exploring. I would wander around aimlessly for hours on end but I always seemed to be attracted to one thing. The 10 foot tall oak tree.
ReplyDeleteNow, being a little 2 year old that oak tree was basically my Everest, I had always wanted to get to the top but I never had the guts to do it, until that day. I quickly climbed up, feeling the rough bark and soft, green leaves. After what felt like hours of climbing, I had finally made it to the top and the view was spectacular. Then I realized something, how was I going to get down? Being a 2 year old I did the most logical thing I could think of, I jumped. This lead to two broken arms, a night in the hospital and a very angry mom.
From this event I learned that you must always assess the situation, come up with a plan of attack, instead of just going for it. Because if you don;t think before you act it can have severe negative affects on you and everyone around you.
Memories are important because they make you aware; aware of what to do and what not to do. Our past stupidity can lead to future brilliance and if don't remember the stupid moments then history will just repeat itself and you just end up going around in a circle of stupid.
I believe that it is unethical to take another being's life on the spot, because they are being treated like toys. You play with them and then you break them. At least you can do is give them their last words and execute them in a necessary manner. Like nowadays, even though inmates have made some stupid, horrible, and regretful mistakes in the past, they deserve to have their last words and to tell us what they learned from their mistakes in prison. I am a person who gives second chances. And I believe that everyone deserves a second chance depending on their mistakes/crimes. For example, if it was Hitler or Bin Laden, oh yeah, definitely will I execute him on the spot, because they are leaders of a very sinful group and they are also very dangerous, and it is very important to have that person dead, because it will help the security of the entire world and prevent harm to most of the people.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how something important in our lives can be so easily forgotten. My oldest memory is going to my first day of school and wondering if I would like it. I the first 10 minutes I was board and wishing the school day would end. After several years of going to school I understood that my boredom was a lesson at the same time. It taught me patience as well as keeping an open mind about new things.
ReplyDeleteLife lessons can be found in our memories from first hand experience but only if we can remember them. Some only learn by making mistakes in life so they need to remember them. We are very forgetful and we forget important things in life. Memory is the key in life which helps us make wise decisions.
I have a number of early memories, but one that stood out the most for me was one when I was 4 years old, and attending Kiddie Kollege Pre-school. On the last day of school, my teacher, Ms. Marty, announced that we were having a mini field trip to the public pool(which is now the San Leandro Aquatics Center) adjacent to the school. As pre-schoolers, we marched on over to the pool, and jumped right in. Little did I know, water was far more dangerous than I thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteYou see, the thrill was running through my head, but the thought that I didn't even know how to swim somehow did not cross my mind. At first, I waded by the side. I was soon invited by my friend, Nikki, to join her in the middle (where the "Big kids," were). I lightly tiptoed over, and suddenly, I'm drinking more water than an average child should be drinking in a single moment. As an initial response, I called out to my teacher, but all that came out was a school of air bubbles. Luckily, after a minute of thrashing and excessive drinking, I was able to plunge right back to the surface. It was horrible, and thinking of it now, I was in a pool of pre-schoolers, and Lord knows what was in the water.
Memories play an important factor in your life. Without them, you wouldn't be able to be nostalgic, and acquire even the slightest second of happiness from remembering a good moment in the past. Memories can also keep you grounded, and help you know your roots. Remembering things first-hand can put you at an advantage. You might remember the slightest aspects of something that would help you in times of argument, support, or just simply reminiscing the old days. Without memories you wouldn't be able to build up from your past, and grow stronger as a person. Memories help you find where you went wrong. In my case, that was jumping into a pool, without even knowing how to swim.
At San Leandro there are many rules that go against my freedom. Rules are just boundaries to me that could be broken or tampered with. Allowing certain privileges to some people, but not all is what happens often. For example, citizens of San Leandro may not park their cars in a red zone, but the police may park in a red zone. There are many rules that I could be fond of if they were changed.
ReplyDelete1. The "no iPod during school hours" rule should be changed to "no iPods during class-in time. The reason why this should be changed this way is because the music only distracts us if we were in class being in a lecture or being given time to do classwork. On the other hand, when we are not in class not doing work or being taught we should be allowed to listen to our music.
2. The "no running in the hallways" rule should be changed to "no running in the hallways three minutes after the first bell." This would be concerning those children who are running a little late to class and usually there are less people in the hallways after three minutes during passing period, there should be a privilege to run to your class so that there wouldn't be as much people coming into detention because they were late to class when they could have made it!
3. Everybody has dreams of being able to leave campus for a lunch from Popeyes or Hawaiian BBQ, but a rule says we may not leave campus during school hours without a permit to leave, so i say this rule should be changed to "students may not leave the campus unless it is lunchtime and the student is expected to make it to their 5th period or following class." Even though there are flaws into allowing this privilege to students, this rule should only be given to the deserving students who can maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher. This is a GPA of a student who is doing well in school. This will also allow more ventilation in the school cafeteria, because not as many people would be in the cafeteria buying a hot lunch.
These are the three most proposed rules i would like to alter, even though i would like to change many more. Not only i would like these rules to be ameliorated, but I think many other students of my school would like these changes to be made. The pigs of animal were evil doers altering the rules when the knew that only they would benefit, they did not act solicitous towards the health or feeling of the other animals on the farm. I on the other hand would be helping other students of my school.

ReplyDeleteThere was lots of memories of my past childhood but one that was very interesting was when i was about 4 years old i was a very lonely child since all my brothers were at school so id stay home with my mom, just the two of us. So she was always sleeping so i would always ask her before hand if i can grab a dollar for when the ice cream truck comes. So one day the ice cream truck came i handed him the dollar bill and i chose my ice cream but for some reason the ice cream man gave me back a bunch of money i didn’t know how much but it was a ton of it. So what had happen was i took a 100 dollar bill instead of a 1 dollar bill. So the next day my mom was wondering where her money went when she needed to fill up her tank in her car and i was like OH SH*T.
Memories can be very important because it is good to know what you had been through in your past lives and if it is recent you want to be able to remember things so you would know what is going on around you in the past and future
Some school rules should be changed to better fit it's students. I would change it so it was an open campus for more freedom. No attendance so you can go to school when it best suits you. And I would change it so you get to pick all the classes you want to take to graduate high school with.
ReplyDeleteKids should be trusted to go off campus for lunch. It will teach us to be more responsible and it gives students the sense of freedom witch is a good feeling. We could make the passing period a couple minutes longer so no kid has an excuse for being late to their class after lunch. Kids would have the power witch I think is a good thing.
The no attendance rule is so that kids can go to school when they like. It will be set up like collage so that kids come when its best suited for them. Yes some kids may not come at all but that's their lost and hopefully they're not coming because they would rather have a job then learn things they don't even care about. This will also help the kids that can't help but be late to their classes. This rule can be good or bad on students but its their decision to make on what way they want it to go.
My last rule would be for students to pick their own classes to graduate high school with. They would pick their own A through G requirements to graduate with. Students wouldn't have to take classes they wouldn't want to take and then they can stay more focus on subjects that most suit them or will help them out when they are done with high school. My rules could really make a difference in student's lives.
I actually have loads of early childhood memories but those were only bits and pieces of the whole story. But I do remember a memory that I still laugh at 'till this very day, although it wasn't funny at the time. I was about 5 years old and I was at my Pre-school in the Philippines. It was quiet time at the moment and we were supposed to be working on workbook problems individually. There was this girl, I can't recall her name, who sits right behind me. I did not like her. At all. Anyways, I was just minding my own business wondering if the shape was a closed circle or an open circle when the girl taps me on my shoulder. She asks if she can borrow my pencil sharpener. And being the good citizen, I handed her my only sharpener. Just because I disliked her doesn't mean I'll leave her hanging. So I went back to my workbook but was quickly interrupted seconds later by crying. I turned around and the girl was holding her bleeding index finger up in the air while stridently crying to get the teacher's attention. I was actually genuinely worried. Until I heard what she told the teacher happened. This girl told our teacher that I walked over to her desk, grabbed her finger, stuck it in my sharpener and sharpened it. WHAT IN THE WORLD?! So many things were running through my little mind. My first thought was that I did not do anything to her and that she was lying. My second thought was that she was so stupid for creating that lie since the teacher was observing us the whole time. My third thought was that there was something mentally wrong with her because she sharpened her own finger. She would not stop crying and kept repeating that it was my fault. The teacher had to call my nanny to come get me early since I was in trouble. For what? I don't know. But thankfully, my nanny believed me when I said I didn't do it so I was not punished. As for the girl, she kept my sharpener.
ReplyDeleteMemories, good or bad, are very important. You should never forget them, no matter how sad or bad it is, because it plays a significant role on shaping you as a person. You may be a certain way, have certain fears, because of those memories. But maybe someday in the future you can look back and say "that's what made me stronger." Memories are great teachers since they hold not only your past but also your mistakes. You cannot reminisce and be nostalgic without them. If you forget a memory, a person can fabricate a story with you in it and you wouldn't know whether it's true or not because you can't remember. Always cherish every memory, every moment.
I remember when I was a little boy in the summer many years ago. I had always spent wonderful days with my cousins. We would always do many fun things together and tried to plan things for the next day after that. They were always days when the all the neighborhood kids would come out and we would all play a game of kickball or tag. I will always remember and cherish these memories with my cousins because those were the good old days when there wasn't so much violence going on. Now a days, kids can hardly go outside with all this madness going on. That's what makes me want to relive the wonderful past that I had lived. I will and always will remember those wonderful times that I was able to share with my family and friends in the past. You won't want to forget moments like those because those are times that you had once lived your childhood. I know, if I didnt remember my childhood, I wouldn't have anything to look back to and smile about.
ReplyDeleteBy Alex Lopez,
ReplyDeleteIf I could change some of the rules in my school I would change a lot of things like, one me and my friends will get free breakfast and lunch everyday and we could get as many lunches as we want. Another rule that I would change is the lanyards that we have to wear everyday, I will make it where me and my friends don't have to wear them everyday we won't even have to bring them at all. The next rule that I would change is whatever class that I'm in there will be no homework or test for me and the people that I know in that class and we will always have a, "A" in that class. But there is one rule that I will only change for me but for the whole school, the rule that has to deal with "no headphones." I will make it where all the students can listen to music when ever they feel like it and not get in trouble or get their headphones taken away. The last rule that I would change is that the rule on detention, I would make it where me and my friends could never get detention. And that is some of the rules and why I would change them. What I think rules are is something that people do to restrain other people. Yea there are some things that there needs to be rules, but a lot of the things there is no need to establish. Like the lanyards, when that rule was established at San Leandro High everyone was like what the hell, no one wanted this rule they just thought it will make us a safer campus but it won't

ReplyDeleteGoing back to my very first memory, it was when I was at the age of only three years old. My mom was pregnant with my sister, my dad was on probation (maybe as well as my mom), my brother was with my great grandparents (my dad's side of the family) and as for myself, I was with my grandparents (my mom's side of the family). Now as for the reason my family was separated was because my parents were on probabtioj from drug abuse and usage. It wasn't much of a good memory for me but it was my first and however we were all separated I did have a good time because I never knew what was going on until just a few years ago.
Now as far as I feel about the importance of memories and even taking the time to remember things in the first hand, I feel it's very important. I believe the man reason to remember things is so we can stay educated and and have our memories from the past to learn from. "The Memory Remains"- Metallica, one of the songs I feel goes well with this journal entry; I also bring it up because a memory is there in your mind to stay and for you to study or learn from.

ReplyDeleteBack when i was a little kid, my parents took me to this Barney concert in the Oracle Arena. Just watching barney and his friends on stage got me so excited and hyped up. When I got excited so much, I literally jumped out of my seat and ran down to the stage and all the kids seen me, and then they all followed me down to the stage. I wanted to actually touch Barney while I'm wearing my barney shirt I got that day. That was the best memory that i remembered back when i was a child and that was one of my most important memory of mines also.
What i think about memories, i think there's a good and bad to it. The good part about memories is looking back to your child hood memories with your mom and dad, and any siblings you had. Wishing you can go back to those good old days. The bad part about memories is, the bad times or tragic times you had in the past which makes you don't want to look back into that kind of memory. But all in all, to me i think memories are very important and everybody should cherish them all.

ReplyDeleteOne of my earliest memories was when I was about two years old. I remember that we moved to our new house. The people who lived next door to us were an old couple. They were very nice they would let my sister and I barrow movies. They had over three hundred movies! At this time my sister was about eight years old so she picked different movies than i did. I also remember that i had a nanny. Her name was Rosa. I loved the lady to death. I remember that by the time i woke up in the morning she was already there. My parents worked in the mornings.
Memory is important because its the past. You need to remember things in order not to do bad things you already did and know about. Also older people have better stories because they get better after everytime you tell it.

ReplyDeleteI think that not all crimes should be punished by a death penalty. The crimes that took place on animal farm were not severe at all yet they were killed immediately. Only under certain circumstances, in my opinion, would then the liberty of killing someone would come into play. Is it ethical? yes, only if the person killed another person. I think its terrible that the animals were forced to say they did something even though they didn't even do it. They were scared into saying something they didn't want to let alone something they didn't do. Even when they were telling the truth, they would get hurt, like getting a limb cut off, just so they could "confess". In reality, they didn't do it so they had to lie and either way, they would've gotten hurt. So, I think its wrong to kill anybody unless they've killed somebody else.

ReplyDeleteMy earliest clear memory is when I woke up in bed when I was about 3 years old. It was a strange, but reassuring memory. I woke up in a dark room. I sat up in bed and looked around to see a familiar bedroom. I understood my parents were sleeping right nest to me. I remember this distinctly because it was the first time I felt like I was consciously thinking and moving. I felt a nice feeling of interest in this new development. Then I got bored and went back to sleep. It's a weird memory because I didn't consider myself as me until then. It was like I was on autopilot for the first 3 years of my life. I have other memories, which may have been from a earlier time, but they are so fuzzy and vague that I can't tell if they are actual memories or just dreams.
It is important to remember things first-hand so you will know what is right and not have to rely on questionable sources, like I do. There have been many times when I wished I had better memory. When I can't remember something, I have to ask someone else or rely on a feeling of whether something is right and reason it out rather than knowing myself. If I was an animal in Animal Farm, I probably would have believed Squealer and Napoleon because lists of numbers and figures would make a convincing argument against those who have only fragments of memories. If I had a good memory then I would be able to tell when I am being lied to about facts of life. The pigs of Animal Farm would not have been able to exploit and work the poor animals to death if the animals could remember the original commandments and how the farm had change since the pigs took power. Better memories make people harder to manipulate.
Back when i was 2 years old, being my earlist memory. I was in Mexico on a hot summer day. I was outside on the back yard. My aunt was taking care of me she was 11 years old. I would allways be a trouble maker. So i decied to run around chasing the little chicks. I would step on them until one of the chickens was running after me trying to pick at my legs. I was crying and screaming and my aunt wouldn't get the chicken away from me because she was scared. Until my mom came out took them away from me.
ReplyDeleteMemories are important because you can go back to the past. Also cause you know what you have experienced and what came out of it.

ReplyDeleteMemories are very important in many ways. Some people remember the important things. Some remember the not important. Some remember the things they should remember, some remember something they shouldn't remember.
I'm not sure what my first memories were. I just know I still remember it. Something important I remembered was how to write the number 4 properly in my dad's perspective. I wrote the 4 wrong in a pencil, so my dad lost his patience, and stabbed me twice with a pencil. The mark is still there on my skin right now. I still remember the moment it happened. It actually didn't hurt. I didn't cry until 5 minutes later, because he poured alcohol on it.
A memory that wasn't important was when I was in elementary school, I had cousins in middle school. They are a d*ck to me, but they like me because I have the balls to play with them. My brother would cry the second my cousin touched him. One time, I got so mad, because I was trying to watch Pokemon, but he would stand right in front of the Tv. I hit him, then I ran to the yard, and grabbed an orange. I heard him coming, so I was hiding behind a wall. Then as he got closer, I threw is RANDOMLY, and when I look at where it hit. It hit him directly in the balls. I was laughing so hard. He then grabbed an orange, and smashed it in my shoulder. I didn't care, because I was laughing too hard.
Something I should remember is that one time, I pushed my brother down the stairs when he was in the walker. He ended up going to the ER. I pinned everything on my sister. I should remember it because now I know, i should treat my sister better than all my other siblings.
Something I shouldn't remember is when my dad spanked me so bad, that the whole bottom was a bruise. I was punished for lying about something, I don't remember. I still had to go to school, so every time I moved, it would hurt. The bruise lasted for a whole week.
The importance of memory is that in history wise, you wouldn't make the same mistakes, or do something different, because you already know what happens. It is also good to keep record of people so that you have an idea of what his personality is like so when there is an opportunity for him, you will know that you should find him.
I remember when I was four years old. I lived in the Philippines. Our family lived in the city, but my dad's family lived in the northern most province. Every year I remember driving through a muddy road, seeing cows and horses.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was five years old, I was at the mall. I remember being stupid as I did not get the fifth toy that I requested. When they weren't looking, I stumbled away from my family on purpose and hid in the bathroom. I was feeling kind of scared so I returned to McDonalds where they were, but they weren't there! THAT WAS IT. I was crying and crying. The people at McDonalds called the big microphone in the mall and fortunately my parents never left the mall and we reunited. I promised my self to never make a stupid decision like that, since my mom was crying and I was punished.
I currently love KFC, and I remember the first time eating it. When I was still five, I was such a picky eater. One day my parents got annoyed so they just bought five goods from five different place. Those were, McDonalds, Wendys, Jolibee, KFC, and Max's chicken. Let me just say It was so good, but in particular I loved KFC the most.
As you know I am one of the nicest person ever. The roots of that come from when I was six. When I was young, I used to love a TV show. I particularily loved an actor. He treated everyone with respect and he knew how to be romantic. Up to this day I treat everyone with respect, unless you know its my friends where I play around with them. Also I do not treat women as objects as it goes against every inch of my morals.
You see why keeping your memory is very important. It makes you from repeating the same mistake over. Even the earliest memories you remember can from the things you love and you can still love it up to this day. Retaining your memory is also important as it makes you the person you are today. Meaning if your nice back then, then you'll be nice now without the outside influences. That's why you should always remember your memory.
Have you ever want to revise some of those boring old rules? Well you can’t… The rules that will be great to change are close-campus and school starts at 8:15 rules.
ReplyDeleteHaving an open campus will be great because it gives more healthy choices of food then the crummy old school lunches and gives the students a more sense of freedom. The students will be able to choose from a variety of different businesses to pick for their lunch with an open campus. Not only are they eating better, but they are also supporting small businesses in their community. Giving them more choice, means giving them more freedom. High school students crave freedom. Providing an open-campus will clench their thirst and give them a feeling that only independence can give them. The feeling of independence will be stronger if the school starts later.
School starts early, some say too early. Most of the time students are too tired to learn, which means a lower pass rate. A lower pass rate means less money for the school, think about it. So, if school starts at 11:15 the students will be wider awake and ready to learn. Sure it’s not preparing them for the real world, but who cares MORE SLEEP. More sleep means less obnoxious students making horrible decisions. If school starts later, then it will build the whole foundation of the future working generation.
In conclusion, open campus will give the freedom of choice and a later time for school will build our future generation.
Although it is not my first memory, I remember me being in pre-school a lot. I loved to go and I was always energetic and trying to play. When it came to learning how to color and write, I was alright at it, just like every 3 or 4 year old.(None of us were masters of art at the age of 3)
ReplyDeleteEven though I talk about this as if it were yesterday, I don't actually remember it all. My memory is quite weak when it comes to my childhood, just like the animals' memories in the Animal Farm. The importance of memory and being able to remember things is that it is somewhat an easier way to go through life. Memory puts you at ease and lets you go through the day smoothly. You can't be successful and forgetful.
You have to remember things and keep a good memory of it, because one day, memories will be the only thing you'll have. You'll grow old and live to tell your grandchildren about how you were in high school and how you did this and that. Always keep memories taped to your brain, because you can't be successful and forgetful.
The death penalty is ethical for crimes of multiple killings exceeding three times. If people who have created these crimes are not punished properly, other delinquents will also repeat these crimes and cause future serial killers. This will cause our society to be an unsafe place for our future children.
ReplyDeleteAlso if the death penalty is not mobilized then many of the criminals will try to escape prison and hide or will be released and kill again. It’s safer to not take the risk of another life taken. Even if the death penalty seems harsh, people would have to look at it another way. Would they rather have a loose criminal “repenting his wrong doings” or have a content knowing that the people they love will not be another victim of a homicide? This is the question that should be asked to people who disagrees with the death penalty.
This decision is ethical because it will bring justice to the victim’s loved ones and the victim him or herself. Many people feel guilty for a doing they think is unethical of killing another person who has not harmed him or her. But eventually the criminal will. They feel no guilt or remorse of what they have done; even if they know what they are doing is wrong.
To stop a violent world to happen, we have to cut right through the main source of serial killers. These people soon influence other people to be like them and soon a gang is formed, in hopes of recruiting younger and newer members. Peace needs to be created in action not in waiting.
A- Just like everywhere else, San Leandro High has strict rules. Some are very logical, but others are a little more questionable. I believe that some of these rules should be changed or readjusted to help benefit the students, unlike in Animal Farm where they were adjusted to benefit the elites. I feel that the “no iPods on school campus” rule should be a little more flexible. I personally work much more productively and effectively when I listen to music because it relaxes me and helps me focus. Of course this should only be allowed during classwork or free-time (including before school, after school, and lunch). Another rule that should be more flexible is the “no eating in class” rule because some students are really busy during lunch in meetings or catching up on homework/tests and every student needs to eat in order to stay energized during class.
ReplyDeleteB- I recognize that there are some heinous individuals in this world who commit sick and brutal crimes, but I don’t feel that the death penalty should be as open an option as it is. Some situations do require these extreme measures such as genocides and premeditated murders. But, the situations should be taken into very close consideration after strict psychological analysis and a number of trials before this penalty is applied or even considered. Sometimes, the government and justice system cannot retain certain criminals due to corrupt officials and, in these situations, the death penalty should be applied if it is the only way to ensure that that criminal will not endanger anymore citizens. It might not be ethical, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
C- Memory is what determines a lot of your future actions. Memory is what causes traumas and preferences. My memory isn’t as great as I wish it were, but I do recall certain memories that have molded me into who I am today. My earliest memories are mainly of family. The people who have never faded away from my memory, are the people that I still love and cherish to this very day. I don’t have too many precise, fond memories from when I was 2 or 3 but I do recall the main points. In every memory, there is family involved. My uncles, aunties, cousins, and, most importantly, parents are the most important pieces of my memory. I have shared most of my life with my family and I don’t regret one second of those moments. Family is the most important thing in my life, besides my own personal success. My family has always been there for me and the individuals who have turned their back on me or my family are no longer a part of my life. That is why memory is so important, because memory is what keeps you from repeating the same mistake. The detail and accuracy of those memories also plays a vital role because the smallest details can sometimes make the biggest change.

ReplyDeleteThe death penalty is a delicate subject there's pros and cons about it, I have always belived taking the life of someone was wrong, ofcourse, as a religious person I belive only God can do so. What do we do to those people who take other people's life? Don't they deserve a punishment equal to their actions?
Death to those who kill intentionaly sounds fair enough.Even better would be letting them live with the shame and the blame they will carry with them till they die. Some of this guilty killers will even comit suiced in prison at one point. Escaping from prison can happen as well and we do not want to risk having someone who kills alive with the possiblitly for them of being out of jail. Death penalty sounds like the answer, but is it really the answer? I dont belive so. A really punish ment is taking eveyrting from them including their freedom, everything imaginable, to the point where they will not longer desire to live. A punishment where they can not be more miserable.Being in jail for the rest of their lifes wishing they didnt comit the actions of their past is about the rite punishment.

ReplyDeleteThe earliest memory I remember is cutting my own hair at 4 years old. When I was 4 I remember I was obsessed with the movie Mulan. Her scene where she cut her hair to be seen as a man and go to the army was so inspiring and I told myself I want to be a hero like she is and when my parents were at work I took scissors and cut my hair. It was so choppy and short that I got in so much trouble when my parents found out. I told them "I don't care, I will save the country and receive honor!" I had to wear a hat for 3 months until it began to grow back and everyone in my large family made fun of me. They continue to talk about it now and when they see my hair length they tell me "Don't cut it and go off and be like Mulan." It has been a joke in my family for years and they will never let it die down. About a month ago I cut my bangs in anger really short and as my Aunt tried to fix them she told me it reminded her of how I cut my hair when I was 4.
Memories will bring back embarrassing moments and will bring you back to the time and what was going through your head. At that time I really thought I would be able to save the country if I cut my hair and became a warrior. It reminded me of how I acted back then and the innocence of childhood. They also help you from making the same mistakes and reliving the consequences.

ReplyDeleteThere are numerous rules at school that are necessary for the school to function correctly. On the other hand, there are also other rules that are not necessary, but are there and cause difficulty to students and even perhaps teachers. And those rules should be changed to fit the need of those students and teachers.
One of the rules such as the time school starts is a rule that could be changed, to something better. The time school starts could be changed to at the earliest 8:20 and the latest around 9:00. The reason for that is, numerous students I see around school are always complaining how they are so tired and some wishing school would start later. As you could see, some already wish for the later schedule, it would cause the students to be more alert and awake in classrooms.
Another rule that should be changed is off campus lunch not being allowed. This rule is understandable by all students. Since there is just one block away from the school, a small food center. Hungry students who don't want to eat school lunch that leaves many unsatisfied, could quickly leave school grounds and get quick lunch from those stores. Other schools in the US do it, as well as schools in Europe. If they do it, why shouldn't we?
what i think about the death penalty is very serious people who deserve the death penalty is the people who kidnap, rape and kill little kids that is just disgusting and evil no one like those kids of people it is just sad that there are people out there like that and it is sad no matter what anyone else says and i think that people who did those crimes deserve they death penalty but if it was some thing petty like stepping on someones shoe or accidently hitting someone then no they don't deserve the death penalty because it was just an accident so there are no worries there. another thing is that the people who spend their life doing this is just crazy because they can spend their life doing something better in life so for the people who really do this they should change their life around and start doing stuff that is good for them and their life but if they don't then they deserve the death penalty no matter what any one says its just my opinion so far as to what i believe in and that is pretty much it to what i believe in.
ReplyDeleteFinau Mataafa: Write a journal describing your earliest memory. What is the importance of memory and remembering things first-hand?
ReplyDeleteThe earliest memory i had is sucking my moms tits. i remember this like it was just yesterday. this moment is when my little sister was just born and my mom asked me if i wanted some milk and i respond by saying yes!
I believe it is important to remember the past because you can't compare the past and the future. Also you wouldn't know if things are better in the future then the past. Not only that, it's good to remember the past because it can bring good memories but also bad ones as well. i believe people can also persuade your opinions about something in the past because you can't remember.
Many people cannot fathom the idea of the death penalty. Why would you take an eye for an eye? Or even something less? For petty crimes such as stealing bread or jaywalking, the death penalty is an obvious no. However, there are some crimes so heinous, that a life sentence cannot suffice. I believe that the death penalty is necessary, but only for the most terrible crimes, such as mass murder and treason.
ReplyDeleteIn our time, the death penalty is used for a whole spectrum of crimes. Some people get executed for committing treason, some people get executed for murdering one person. This spectrum is why many people question the ethics of the death penalty. Why are people that commit petty crimes such as stealing bread being put in the same position as psychos who commit mass murder? The death penalty can be given a better name if we improve upon this. Requests for the death penalty should always be reviewed, whether it is necessary or not. Then, the crime that is committed must also be reviewed. Should a man who committed rape be subject to the death penalty? Once again, better judgment and pragmatism should be used when deciding whether the death penalty is necessary or not.
Another argument against the ethics of the death penalty is the actual concept of death. Sure, the person committed a horrible crime, but do their lives really have to end because of it? Other cases of the death penalty include wrongful convictions, where the revelation is too late and the person is already dead. This can be countered by better judgment and pragmatism being used. If cases are carefully reviewed and scrutinized, we can avoid these cases of wrongful conviction. As for the concept of death, it really is sometimes necessary. When a man commits mass murder, giving them the death penalty will send a message. It sends a powerful message, saying that if something like this is ever done again, the punishment will be powerful.
For society, the death penalty can be one of the most practical solutions for the economics of law and order. When a death penalty is done, it is done. There are no extra costs to upkeep for a prison, and may actually bring down costs. The next step down, life imprisonment, is a much larger burden. The costs of keeping the prisoner, maintaining their well being, and other concerns create such a drain to taxpayers. From a financial point of view, allowing the death penalty is the most economically beneficial form of punishment.
While there are gripes to having it, the death penalty is a very effective and ethical form of punishment for crimes. The death penalty sends a powerful message to those who want to commit similar crimes that warrant the death penalty. For law abiding people like us, the death penalty can lower prison upkeep costs. Some may say the death penalty is unethical, but the issue of ethics can be solved by better judgment and pragmatism. The death penalty, unlike in Animal Farm, can solve many of our problems, but only if we try it.

ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings on this subject, but after I separate them and dissociate fact from fiction, I believe that in certain cases the death penalty is not only justified but ethical in nature. Our criminal justice system is one that for most part is one based on fact not fiction, there are many layers to this system, starting with the arrest of the suspect, and culminating in the trail and either the person being found innocent or guilty. If the person is found guilty, the sentencing phase begins that is supposed to be appropriate to the crime committed. The sentence imposed should be, but often times is not appropriate to the crime found guilty of. I believe that if a person is suspected of taking the life of another he or she should have a trail by their peers, and after all the facts are taken into account and he or she is found guilty, the only appropriate sentence should be death. People must be held accountable for their actions, and by doing so sends a strong message to society.
In animal farm they have this death penalty. For me I don't think it's unnecessary for someone to die over a crime.I think it's wrong, it should just be kick out of the farm or something else. Like no food for a 3days even though that's still a little crucial at least don't kill another animal. death penalty is just a little too much specially if the crime is small. though I don't think anyone deserves death penalty. I f someone keeps on killing people or animals then i think they should receive death penalty. The reason being, they're killing for no reason they are only declining there population.you can also give them the chance to live there a life in another way rather than just killing them they'll realize what they did wrong. they should just be put in jail. -Angelo Bonifacio
ReplyDeleteOne's memory is very important for several reasons. Memories can be used as future references as well as life lessons. A fairly early memory of mine was when I was only three years old. I had been eating a bowl of macaroni soup on my miniature table when my dad told me to move. I didn't want to move away from the spot I was in. I especially didn't want to have to go through the process of picking up my bowl and juice, moving my table and chair, and settling into a whole other location. The multitasking individual I was, I decided to carry all four objects at the same time. Consequently, everything fell within a three second time span. That section of my living room's carpet was completely soaked, not to mention I dropped the chair on my foot. I was so upset that my parents were mad at me and even more upset that I didn't get to finish my soup. I think I remember this moment so clearly because it reminds me that they're aren't any true shortcuts in life. Even if it was just a simple task, in trying to make my journey more simple, I instead made it more difficult. This memory serves as a life lesson to me. The animals easily forget any past events, therefore they can't stick up for themselves and prove that the altered commandments were in fact changed. This then leads the animals into being forced to do absolutely anything the pigs say and follow their every word. That is why our memory is so significant to us, we learn to not make the same mistakes and we are given first-hand references that will benefit us in the long run.

ReplyDeleteI choose to change some rules to benefit me and my friends because grades are a pain, food is hard to get if you don't have enough money, and the A-G requirements are hard to achieve if you don't have the grades or anything.
Grades are a pain because if you do bad then the grade is up to your teacher and you won't know what to do to get it up. Grades are also based off of test scores and if the class is like 75% test scores and your not good at tests then your messed up and you have no way to get it up.
Food is one of the most important things in a persons life you cn not go without it and by having people pay for food, people may starve to cannibalism and even death. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and my missing that they will not be able to think in or out of the classroom.
Everyone wants to go to college but most people can't go because of the A-G requirements. They make people go to summer school which no one wants to go to and everyone loves summer vacation.
Those are some of the rules I will change.

ReplyDeleteI do not believe anyone or anybody should be given the dealth penalty no matter what crime they did or the severity of the crime. The only exception would be a serial killer as they are usually pshcologically ill and have no care for anybody. Serial killers usually have killed more than one person and I would definetely give them the death penalty as I would not take the risk of them escaping prison and kill more innocent humans. Any other crimes should not have the dealth penalty as a conseqence. I believe that making someone go to prison, locked up in a jail cell, doing nothing but think about the crimes they did is better punishment then killing them. The death penalty isnt unethical, I just think it doesnt really punish the criminal. I think its better to let them live, not living to their fullest, rotting in jail, staring a wall the whole time. In conclusion, the dealth penalty does not really allow an individual to fully asess and think about the crimes they did. While locked up in prison, the person really has nothing to do but think about the crimes they did. The only effective use of the dealth penalty is against serial killers who do not care for anyone.
Imagine the person who killed the person you loved being in prison, being given three meals a day and can go outside and just be alive while the person you love is dead. Is that fair? Should the monster that caused you great harm even be alive? It might not be very ethical but it damn sure provides comfort knowing that that person can’t harm anyone ever again. The crimes that should receive the death penalty are heinous crimes such as murder and rape. In addition it is wasting money and space in the prisons. Why should tax money go to keep these people alive when it can go to more productive things such as education and keeping our state nice? With the high number of inmates right now and more coming in they might try to release some people earlier that they should to make space. How long has someone like Scott Peterson been on death row? Since 2005, that’s 7 years worth of tax money to giving meals to someone who killed his pregnant wife.
ReplyDeleteOne of my earliest memory was when I was around 5 years old. I was with my friend and older cousin in his garage where he had a weight bench and was working out while we sat there and watched him. We eventually got bored of just sitting there and watching him so we decided to ask if we could try. Being my older cousin he let us try to lift the bar but not by our selves, he was behind the bench holding it just in case it fell on us. He went to go get some snacks for us specifically we were getting hungry while we stayed in the garage. Before leaving he specifically told us not to try to lift the bar with the weights on it since it could fall on our chest and we could get hurt. Being kids we of course would do what we were told not to do so my friend got two 10 pound weights and put one on each end of the bar. Unfortunately for me I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Instead of the bar falling on his chest he kept it between his chest and placing it back on the hook and me being a good friend tried to help him. What I did wrong was tried to help him from a side and since we forgot to buckle up the weight to the bar so the weight fell on my head. After that I just remember having a band on my head, because of this incident I now have a scare/bald spot on my head. The lesson I learned from this was I guess to listen to my elders because they have more experience than I do and never do something I know I can't do by myself without supervision. In Animal Farm the commandments are changed but since the animals have a bad memory they don't do nothing about it. Without the past there is no future so I memory/history is a good think to keep track of since it will affect your future so just need to learn from your mistakes as I did. In the case of the animals on animal farm they can not learn from the mistake of not keeping track of the commandments since they were not told the truth as for me I have a good memory, a witness/victim, and a scare which his helps me keep track of the incident that occurred.
