  1. 1). The person who said this quote is Abraham Lincoln. What I know about him is that he is the 16th president of the U.S & wrote/signed the document that freed the slaves in America. 2). What this quote tell me about Abraham is that he probably have met a lot of good people that been thru tragedies & made it out still a good person. And also probably meet some people that became bad or good once they have gotten power. 3). I agree with this quote because thru out my experience as a person everybody I heard about almost always started out as a good person even some of the worst dictators; but, then once they have gotten power some of them have became bad & got corrupted with the power. 4). I think the quote mean that almost anybody can make it thru/deal with a bad time or tragedy & still be a good person; but, to see how a person really is on the inside that person should get power so one can see who the person really is as an individual. 5). This quote is similar to one of Lord Acton's quotes "power tends to corrupt, & absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." They both are similar by saying power corrupt some people and to see if a person is a good person or not a person should get power. 6). A example where I can find this quote to be true is looking at Adolf Hitler before he became a dictator up to when he became a dictator. Before he became a dictator he wasn't power hungry & evil he was a normal guy that cared for his country; but, once he became dictator he eventually started killing Jews & gay people & started taking over other states & countries. 2. 1. Abraham Lincoln wrote the quote. He was the President of the United States. He freed the slaves and outlawed slavery.
    2. This quote shows that Abraham Lincoln believes that some people abuses their power and while some people use it for the common good. It shows that he's wise and has experienced and encountered with power-hungry and kind people.
    3. I agree with this quote because everyone deals with hardships but it really depends on how you use your power to fix it. Some people use their power the wrong way and corrupt, while some uses it efficiently and for the better.
    4. How I define this quote is that every person can go through hardships in their life, but giving them power will truly show who they really are and see what they do with their power; for better or for worse.
    5. "The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse." I think this quote related to Lincoln's because they both discuss about the use of power and Lincoln incorporates about how power can be bad while this quote obviously demonstrate that power can be abused and used wrong.
    6. Many power holders in the world abuses their power especially many presidents. For example, leaders of Cuba and Russia uses their power for their own purpose and not for the common good. The more power they hold, the more corrupt and selfish they become.
    7. In Animal Farm, the quote,“Nine enormous dogs wearing brass-studded collars came bounding into the barn.” demonstrates Napoleon using full control of his power and protecting himself instead of all the animals. He acted like he was their common leader but turned into a dictator. In Macbeth, “My murderous thought is still only imaginary but it shakes my entire manhood so deeply that my power to act is smothered by expectation, and nothing seems real to be except what I imagine.” shows how desperate he is for power. Once Macbeth got a taste of power, he starts to become more corrupt and hungry for power. He lost his self through his power.

  3. Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. I know that he was the president of the United States of America he was the 16th president. This quote tells me that people with power can be more independent and use it for the greater good because some use it for selfishness so that they are more powerful than others. I agree with this quote because it shows that people with power could be use for the wrong purposes but most can use it for the good. This quote to test a person's character, give him or her power that could also mean that person with power will one day have none. "people might not remember what you done or what you said but its all about what they feel". they are similar because they are promoting the same topic on how people should be treated to others. for example Obama is a black man and might have had to overcome a lot of adversity. The adversity and struggle could have made him a strong, humble, and over all good man. The best test of his character was when he entered the office as president of the United States. It is only now, when faced with even more adversity and hardship, that one can know his true character.
In Animal Farm each of the characters were tested when they were stranded and left with no supervision. They abandoned their knowledge of good and even, just to survive the day to day. Many of the characters succumbed to their powerless struggle, and adversity. This was the worse case scenario, but their characters were definitely tested.

  4. This is Abraham Lincoln's quote, he is the 16th president of the USA and helped free the slaves. This quote says that Abraham Lincoln is a good man that wants to help people and use his power for good will. All man can handle hardship That's a part of life. Adversity is life's test for strength, durability and true willingness to live. How power is handled is a test of character. A good man will not abuse power but will use it for the common good, for those his actions affect. A man with bad character will abuse power and use it solely for his own self-interest, will not be patient or understanding in his pursuits. If you want to test someone give him power and see what he does with it. I agree with this quote because I believe that what he is saying is true. This quote has examples in the world we live in, some rich people don’t care about others and all they care about is making more money while others will use his money to help people in need. In the book Macbeth, Macbeth kills people who are close to him for power, and when he does get power, he rules by fear and kills anyone who stands in his way, while getting everything he wants and not caring about other people.

  5. 1 Abraham Lincoln wrote the quote, “Nearly all people can stand adversity, but if you want to test a person’s character, give him or her power.” He was the 16th president of the US and he abolished slavery.
2  It tells me that Lincoln has encountered and has been through times that made him realize people show their true colors when they are given power. Looks can be deceiving but you have to get to know them to see their real character.
3 I agree with this quote because everyone faces problems on a daily basis and most people are able to go through them. As a result, people change and learn lessons but some people get overwhelmed by the power that they have to the point wherein they step on people for the sake of their own happiness.
4 Problems do not define who you really are as a person, but having power shows the real side of yourself.
5 “The distinguishing mark of man is the hand, the instrument with which he does all his mischief,” a quote from Animal Farm expresses a similar message to Lincoln’s quote. The Animal Farm quote corresponds to his quote because human has no control over their problems, it just comes to them but they surely have control over their power whether it’s for the good or bad.
6 A real life example are government leaders especially presidents. Presidents have so much pressure on them, power and control over their country that’s why they get overwhelmed. They have a great responsibility in front of them that they have to take care of but the benefits and rewards cover all of their hard work. Although sometimes, they dont see the world in front of them so they become selfish and think of themselves first.
7 "...young pig named Pinkeye was given the task of tasting all his food before he ate it, lest it should be poisoned.” This quote illustrates the growing inequality on the farm. While the pigs are living in the house and eating well, the rest of the animals are doing all the work and starving, while the pigs take all the profit. Pinkeye tasting Napoleons food illustrates Napoleon's rise to power.

  6. 1. Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He was once president of the United States and abolished slavery during the civil war.
    2. This quote shows that if you give a person who has no intelligence about having power you can basically find out what their true colors are. This also shows that Abraham Lincoln was knowledgeable and had the experience of meeting people who acted that way.
    3. I do agree with this quote because it’s has all the right ideas that a quote should have. It’s true that you can see whether or not the person will use the power for negativity or positivity.
    4. This quote basically means that you can figure out whether or not someone is going to use the power to do wrong and is corrupt.
    5. Abraham Lincoln’s quote is similar to a quote by Bob Marley which is, “The greatness of a man is not how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him.” This is similar to Lincoln’s quote because it talks about how the materialistic things about a person are not the bet parts of a person, but the ability of how you affect other people.
    6. This can be true in real life, for example, if you give power to a needy person on the street or someone who is less fortunate than you are then you can see whether or not they will still be respectful, or help others who are just like them.
    7. In the novel Macbeth, Macbeth says, “I have no spur To prick the sides of my intent, but only Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself And falls on the other. “(1.7.1) This quote shows that Macbeth knew Duncan was a good king but he didn’t care because he just wanted to have the power all to himself, but once he received power he no longer wanted it and had regret in killing Macbeth.

  7. 1.Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He's our 16th president and he has 4 kids.
2.this quote tells readers that people change when power involved.
    3. Yes i agree with this quote because it's so true. In the past I've had friends that change to become some body else just because "popular" or people that we're like considered higher than you wanted that person to hang out with the more.
    4. Everyone's the same but if you want to see who someone truly is give them power. It's like throwing a ball and seeing if the dog's going to go after it or not.
5."Some people will throw stones in your path. It depends on what you make out of it, a wall or bridge? Remember YOUR the architect of your life." Both quotes has to do with the way people approach and deal things. It can results in a good or bad thing. It your choice.
6.A real life example are friends turning their backs on you just to get their shot at becoming "popular". People will change if they are be drive to become "popular".
7.Macbeth : "fair is foul and foul is fair" this is relevant and important to the text because it basically saying that anything that is bad is good and anything good is bad. this is relevant to the theme of this book because in the book Macbeth is manipulated to do all these bad thing, like, slowly killing all the people around him, because the witches has knowledge of the future.

  8. 1. Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He become one of the president of the Unites Sates and he abolished slavery and civil war.
    2. This quote tells me that having power can reveal a persons true color.
    3. I agree with this quote because having power can give a person the ability to abuse his power to treat other badly.
    4. Giving someone power can reveal a persons real color as stated of how his going to use their power.
5."If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be shortage of sand." I think this quote is related to Lincoln's quote because its showing how they used their power the wrong way.
6.An example of this is Hitler because he used hie power to abuse other people instead of dong the good deeds.
7.The quote from Animal Farm "Four legs good, four legs bad." is saying that maybe one of them will use their power for good and the other one is for the bad. "Stars, hide your fire! Let not light see my black and deep desires." That quote from Macbeth shows that if he becomes a king he has plans that can give him more power by killing some of his friends.

  9. 1. Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He was an abolitionist and a US president sometime around the civil war.
    2. This quote shows that Abraham Lincoln believes people show their worst colors when they have power to control or rule over people. In his time, slavery was a very controversial issue that even broke the United States into war. Many plantation owners who owned and had power over slaves were corrupt and since Lincoln was an abolitionist, it brings me no surprise he said a quote like this.
    3. I agree with this quote. Many people can deal with hardships and rough situations in their life, but once people have the power and option to benefit themselves to make themselves more comfortable (ex: to become more rich), then it starts getting really messy. It is very common to see leaders become corrupt and it is no surprise. If we apply this quote to when Abraham Lincoln was living in, many plantation owners used slaves. The owners had the power to control the slaves and they completely used them for various inhumane reasons.
    4. The quote says almost all of us can go through rough patches or tough situations in our life, but once we get power, that is when we really test our morals. It is very difficult to do the greater good when you can just easily set yourself up for a comfortable life.
    5. "Power is always dangerous. Power attracts the worst and corrupts the best." -Edward Abbey. Both quotes say power is what corrupts people.
    6. Many leaders throughout history have started out looking just and then suddenly they take control over everything in the country. Some of the most famous examples of this is Stalin and Hitler.
    7. An example of this quote happening is in the play Animal Farm. After the Revolution, Napoleon didn't make many moves. The animal farmed and did all the things themselves, but after a while, it was clear Napoleon was becoming more leader-like. Since the animals didn't know much, he starts gaining more and more power over them. He makes his own military and then he destroys his competitor, Snowball. With brute force, Napoleon completely takes over the farm and then bends the rule to benefit himself.

  10. 1. Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He was the 16th president of the US who created the Emancipation Proclamation as well as having some role in the Gettysburg Address. Along with this he led the civil war and freed the slaves.
    2. This quote talks to me about how anyone can persevere through the trials life throws at us but the real test would have to be when we are given power. That being said Abraham Lincoln probably was challenged when he became president.
    3. I agree with this quote since it has been shown all throughout history. For example any leader in time has felt some pressure leading their country when given all that power. The person is not only responsible for themselves but, their entire country as well. That being said this quote proves to be true and is something I agree with.
    4. Essentially this quote says that anyone can push through difficult times but, when you want to see how people truly are you should try giving them power.
    5. "Knowledge is power. Power to do evil or power to do good. Power itself is not evil, therefore knowledge itself is not evil." - Veronica Roth
Both quotes talk about having power however in Lincoln's quote he implies that power can go both ways to test a man's character where as this quote talks directly about how power can go both ways, good and bad.
    6. A real life situation could be like Morgan Freeman's role in the movie "Olympus Has Fallen." In the realistic movie, the white house has been taken over and Morgan becomes the acting president in his place. He makes some bad decisions as well as some good ones which caused some bad turns of events but overall coming out as a success. Throughout the course of the movie you could see the stress he was under making huge decisions which is exactly what happens if you give a person power.
    7. Macbeth is an excellent example of a story where this quote rings true. All throughout the story Macbeth is shown making very rash decisions, all of which most likely being because he wants to secure his roll as the king. He kills Banquo his close companion out of fear, destroys everything Macduff had in hopes of eliminating him, and most of all assassinating the previous king in order to be the king himself. This all started however when he found out about his "bright future" from the witches. That knowledge caused him to use his power even before he had it to do evil. He was originally a very noble and respectable person but his character was continuously tested as his power grew. As this happened, his true colors were shown and Macbeth ended up just being another tyrant.

  11. •The quote was written by Abraham Lincoln.
•Abraham Lincoln was not only known as the person who didn’t care what people thought of him leading him to free the slaves down South and lead the United States in the Civil War between the South. So not only was he known as the president that lead the African American to freedom, but he wasn’t scared to believe in something that other people where to scared to speak against which was abolishing slavery from Southern States.
•What this quote means to me that almost most of the people in the world have the tolerance to stand difficulties that life may throw at them. But if someone wants to see what they are actually capable when power is given to them then they have to place the power and their hands and see how they react to that power.
•I agree with this quote because for example when people don’t have anything or any powers then they have nothing that controls them or to conserve what other people don’t have and when people have power they have something that someone may not have. And unfortunately they want to conserve that power.
•In other words people will always have greed amongst each other and people always want to compete against each other for power that they may have over some people. But some people don’t have much so they might know how it feels to be degraded and when they have the power they might not do the same since they know what coming from the bottom feels like. But at the same time some people don’t care, bringing out another side to them that shows conformity to their lifestyles.
•A meaningful quote that I could compare Abraham Lincolns quote would be a quote by Edward Abbey stated and said, “Power is always dangerous Power attracts the worst and corrupts the best”. Similarities that I found between the two are that they both talk about power, they also both talk about how power can change people in various ways.
•An example where this is true is the situation with Fidel Castro and Che Guevara over threw the dictator/government in Cuba. And then later on Fidel Castro became the new dictator, which relates to the quote because Fidel Castro had no power but once he got a taste of power he did not want to let go of the power.
    • In Animal Farm Napoleon has certain beliefs and goals that he wishes to accomplish but as he gains more power he loses sight of what his beliefs where because of all the things he can do and he doesn’t want that power to be taken away from him.

  12. • Abraham Lincoln wrote the quote, and he led the United States threw the civil war.
    • “Yes” I do agree with this quote. I agree with it because if you give someone power they could change into a whole different person because their in control.
    • This quote tells you that you can be who you are but if you are in control are you still going to be you.
    • Most people in this world can face difficulty and be who they are, but if you really want to know who they truly are then give him or her power and see if they will be the same.
    • This happens everywhere at school, at home, work, and even more places. It could happen when you’re in charge at home because your mother has to work.

  13. • Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote, he was the 16th president of the US,serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865
    • All people have the ability to understand and accept being in a lower position than another person, but to test what a person would do in a higher position than others, you have to empower them so they may have the ability to choose their actions.
    • I agree with this quote because usually people that don't have power don't have control of anything, and you really don't know how a certain person is, until they do have power and may or may not use it in a good way, some will take advantage , and eve hurt others without even knowing it. And overuse it.
•This quote tells you that you aren't really defined until once people can the control of something then your true colors will soon come out.

  14. -Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He was a former US president who is on the penny and five dollar bill.
-the quote is saying anybody can handle misfortune but if you want to see a person's real character, you should let them "have" the turn for power. The person sounds very forgiving and gives another perspective from someone's point of view.
-I agree with his quote because you may think that things or people are bad but if you stepped out for a moment and to see others character, you will learn to understand how and why the became to be like that.
-so the quote is basically saying if you want to see the other person's character, you give them the spotlight on the situation so you understand what' going on and why they have that type of attitude.
-“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
― John Wooden this quote is similar but yet i feel like it could follow after Lincoln's quote. By giving another person a chance to see you are given a reputation of not neccesarily kindness but giving another person the oppurtunity or a chance.
-in the real world this happens often during elections. We choose new presidents and others to fill the position because they have a new perspective of how things would be in their turn.
-in the play Macbeth king Duncan was a good ruler but some else's thirst for power got him killed. Macbeth turned around Scotland and put it in a bad place. Malcolm also tested Macduff's character by lying to him saying how much he wanted the power but really Macduff was the greedy sneaky one.

  15. ●Abraham Lincoln wrote a his quote. He was the 16th president of the United States. He is also on the penny and on the 5 dollar bill.
●what the quote is saying is than anyone can handle miss fortune but if you want to see someone's true character give them power.
●I agree with the quote because a person can act nice because they have too but once they don't have to they either have the choice of doing so or not. What they choice will show you who they really are.
●people don't always show who they really are in till they have a choice of doing good or bad.
    ● I don't know of any similar quote.
    ● this is seen a lot with artists. Singers at the beginning sing about good things and do positive things because that will make them famous. Once they are famous they don't care anymore. They staacting acting out and doing and singing about bad things.
●this quote is seen in macbeth. At the beginning everyone thought macbeth was a good person. Once macbeth got the position of king he started to act like himself. He started doing bad things and killing people. Before he became king he wouldn't do that.

  16. 1. Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He was the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln created the Emancipation Proclamation, led the US through the Civil War and created the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery. He is also on the US penny and took part in the Gettysburg Address.

    2. This quote tells me that you wont know what struggle is ‘till you are given power. With power there is more decision to be made for others and can be overwhelming at times rather than making decisions for yourself. This quote also shows me the reader that the writer has experienced this struggle of power changing who he is as a person. He knows that power can corrupt people and experienced this through while being in office.

    3. I agree with this quote because making decisions for yourself and struggling by yourself can be overcome alone; however when you receive large amounts of power, you will struggle. This struggle occurs due to the large responsibility put upon you when receiving this power. You must govern over others and take care of others, meaning that you take their struggle too and solve them while having your own stress too.

    4. This quote means that with power comes responsibility, if you do not have the capability to take care of yourself in your own struggle, what more for others. Also with decisions made with power, you must think of those you govern over as a whole meaning that you won’t be able to satisfy everyone. Stress can take over and thus you struggle more and may become a different person with different morals than who you were before.

    5. A similar quote to this one is by Voltaire who said, “With power comes great responsibility.” Both these quote discuss the struggle of power given to you. In Lincoln’s quote, he states that power can change people due to experiencing the real struggle in life. In Voltaire’s quote, he stresses that great need of maturity and capability to handle others and oneself when given power. These quotes are similar in which they recognize the struggle and change that occurs when power is given and that it is tough to take care of others rather than just yourself.

    6. An example of this quote that has happened in this world was when Napoleon Bonaparte tried to take Russia in his plan to take all of Europe. After finally becoming a formidable opponent to other regions and making France a thriving place, he was greedy with power and attacked Russia to gain more power. Due to his pushiness in conquering Russia, he lost the war losing half his army and was sent to exile. This is an example of this quote because Napoleon was not responsible enough over the country to understand when it was time to stop with war and establish peace and focus more on the economy of France.

    7. This quote can be found in books such as Animal Farm and Macbeth. In Animal Farm, Napoleon was known, as a very smart pig to the other animals, but becomes a different person when taking power. He becomes sly and tricks the other animals under his dictatorship. In Macbeth, the main character was a brilliant warrior that everyone admired and respected in the kingdom. But after coming into power he turns out to be a very tyrannical man that is very greedy and mentally insane. Given power in both these books show the same situations. The one given power was once known as a trustworthy and good person eventually causes the downfall of their respective rule.

  17. 1.Abraham Lincoln is the 16th president of the US, he fought in the Civil War and declared the Emancipation Proclamation which ended the long practice of slavery. He was assassinated and is on the US penny.
2.The quote tells me that the speaker, Lincoln is someone who believes that power is a dangerous tool that many can abuse. He thinks that power in the hands of people can either be used effectively or corrupt. He probably have seen many corrupt people in his life, as a president he holds a lot of power leading the country so he knows how dangerous power can be.
3.I agree with the quote because there are so many rulers that we have witnessed in history with totally different stories under similar situations with power. I have heard of the ‘poorest president in the world’ Jose Mujica, president of Uruguay. He donates 90% of his monthly salary to charities. Even though he has power, he does not abuse it. This shows us that his character is truly a kind person who wants to rule in good of the people.
4.The quote means many people have a subconscious to differentiate between right and wrong, but there is a limit to our integrity when we are handed power. The way we treat and use it says a lot about us and our qualities and traits.
5.This quote can be compared to the quote “Power is always dangerous. Power attracts the worse and corrupts the best.” The quotes parallel in that they both agree that power is dangerous and corruption is a common result of it. It attracts the ‘worst’ to corruption who have immoral characteristics and are selfish.
6.A real word situation where this quote is true runs with Joseph Stalin, the leader of the former USSR. He was a power hungry dictator. He seized power without an election and transformed Russia entirely to his point of views. People were living in poverty and many were sick as a result of his industrialization. However, he did not care for them because his 5 year plan’s goal was to raise Russia into a fearful and powerful country. He killed millions but that did not make him feel guilty because power was too good to him.
7.The quote is a major theme in Macbeth. In the beginning of the book, Macbeth slightly rejects the offer but when the witch’s temptations lured him, he grew corrupt and even killed King Duncan who he greatly respected. He grew obssessed with keeping his throne and murdered many others who became threatening. His actions tell us a lot about his characteristics; he is selfish, power hungry, and narcissistic.

    1. Our president many years ago named Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He was the 16th president of the united states as well as he is the creator of the 13th ammendment and his face is also on the U.S. penny.
2.This quote tells me that a person doesnt actually know what struggle is until that person is provided power. Anyone can stand adversity but when a person is given power they are also given more responsiblity and with more responsibility comes more adversity as well as decisions to make. And that is when a person will show there true colors when they are put on spot and under pressure. This quote also tells me that the writer has been through this experience since he wrote this quote.
    3. I agree with this quote for different reasons, One is because any person can stand alone and overcome an obstacle, it isnt that hard. But like i said when you are given much more power and responsibilty people change, minds wonder, and situations become very difficult. Also with power usually means taking care of others needs as well which is also a huge burden and not only that it's a quick check up on how you react to service.
4.This quote means that with power comes many obstacles and situations that are going to hurt you. its up to you though if you want to let it overcome you and hurt you.If you struggle on your own what makes you hink that you can take care of others? You have to think of those around you and not let the adversity get to you.
5.A similar quote that relates to this is the quote from the movie spider man when uncle ben lectures to peter saying "with great power come great responsibility". Both quotes state receiving power. Lincolns quote is more towards overcoming adversity and spider mans quote is leaning more towards responsibilty and how important it is.
    6. I often see this a lot now a days with many artists, actors and professional athletes. The issue is sometimes when they come from a life of doing the wrong things and making the wrong choices they cant adapt to the good lifestyle that they receive when they make it so they end up throwing it all away and ruining there career.
7.This quote relates to the books weve read this year which is Animal Farm and Macbeth. In animal farm napolean was a very smart, diligent pig but when receiving power he felt that he was better than everyone so he becomes a sneaky pig annd tries to rule the rest of the farm and tricks the other animals into his dictatorship. In macbeth, macbeth was a bright, brave young man and an excellent warrior in battle that everyone loved. But after receiving the thrown and claiming power he goes crazy and turns into an absolute savage who everyone turns out to hate.In both books shows the given power and how they reacted poorly to it.

  19. -Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote. He was the 16th president of the United States. He is well known for his very courageous move to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. And like most people know he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in a theater.
-What this quote tells me about the character is that he was put in a place of power while some sort of struggle was happening to him or somewhere around him. It also tells me that he saw someone in this position.
-I high agree with this quote. Most people can act or say that they can handle anything. But when you put someone in a problematic situation, some might be able to handle it and most might not. That shows whether they can walk the walk not just talk the talk.
-I believe this quote is say that people can go through hardships and struggles but if you want to see the real person they are you should give them a big role to play.
-Abraham Lincoln's quote can be compared to Plato's quote "The measure of a man is what he does with power." They are similar because they are saying that you show who you really are when you are put in a position of power.
-Vladimir Putin is a perfect example of this quote seen in real life. He resigned from the KGB and it seemed like he felt remorse for all the bad things the KGB did right. Then he became president of Russia and it seemed like he was still the nice and humble guy. Then when his terms ended Putin ran for president again in 2012 which no president had been allowed to do until now. That just shows how hungry he was for power again.
-In Macbeth, Macbeth has withstood war, bad weather conditions, and homesickness which shows how he can fight through adversity. However, when he became king we saw that he wasn't this loyal and trustworthy man we thought he was. He was a selfish, corrupt, and treacherous man. This is to show how power can show you who people really are.

1.) This was a quote written by a great man by the name of Abraham Lincoln. He was the 16th president of the United States. Notorious for his honesty, he was given the nickname "Honest Abe." Unfortunately, he was assassinated. He is currently displayed on both the U.S. penny and 5 dollar bill.

2.) This displays Lincoln's deep understanding of mankind. He understands that power can easily corrupt people and the test of their strength is whether or not they can resist the corruption.

3.) I back up Lincoln's quote because I also recognize the character of people with power compared to those without it. I understand that with power, you don't need to hold back on letting your true self out. Who would stop you?

4.) The common people cannot act out due to fear of being put down by authority. As a result, it's hard to tell the true character of a man or woman. With power, however, there is nobody to hold you back and you can choose to either do good or bad with your power.

5.) Another quote involving power is from a political scientist named Henry A. Kissinger. He stated that, "Power is the great aphrodisiac." This suggests that power is seductive and man can be lured to it in impure ways unless he resists. This is similar to Abraham Lincoln's quotes because they talk about power as something that can corrupt man.

6.) I used to play a an online video game and I had a friend who was very kind-hearted. We started to play the game together and we were good friends. Eventually, she became popular within the gaming community and was set as the leader. She then forgot about me because the power became more important to her.

7.) A quote from Animal Farm is, "We don't know if Mr. Jones became a drunk before or after becoming the leader of the farm, but we definitely get the idea that he's not up to his job." This says a lot about what the power did to Mr. Jones. He became drunk from the power and allowed it to corrupt him.

  21. -Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote, he was our president many years ago, the 16th to be exact, serving from march 1861 until his assassination in April 1865 in a theater by John Wilkes Booth. He was well known for such a great move to issue the Emacipation Proclamation.
    - I believe this quote says how someone's true instincts come out when you have control, literally, because only you have the ability to control a certain thing, you tend to forget about how you really were before. People go through a lot of struggles but if you want to see who they really are, put them in charge with something big.
    - I actually do agree with this quote, if you really want to test someone's character, give them power, you'll see the difference instantly.
-This quote means that when you gain power, it'll very much be a rocky road, yet only you have the decision whether you're doing the right thing as well as not hurting others, and not taking so much advantage even though it does happen.
-So in the real life, there's more like a saying that I've heard " drunk words are sober thoughts" as what I mean, nobody says what or how they really feel until they're intoxicated, so when power comes along no one really knows who you are until the power is gained.
    - a quote " four legs good, two legs bad' meaning all animals are good and humans are bad, until it's later changed to ' four legs good, two legs better,' after all the pigs start walking on two feet, once you have power you can take control until everyone has that power too.

  22. 1) Abraham Lincoln wrote the quote, “Nearly all people can stand adversity, but if you want to test a person’s character, give him or her power.” Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States of America. He led the country during the civil war and issued the emancipation proclamation which freed all slaves.
    2) From this quote, I can presume that Abraham was a humble person, even though he had the highest position of power in the nation. I can tell his character was just and fair. This quote can be looked at both a positive way and a negative way. There must have been situations where Lincoln has seen power being abused in an irresponsible way, and situations where power was used for good reasons.
    3) I do fully agree with this quote because I have seen it in the real world. For example Adolf Hitler gained power over Germany and used it for horrible reasons. He murdered many Jews and lead Germany downhill. However, there are many powerful people who do things for the greater good.
    4) This quote states that in order to truly see a person’s motives and character, give them power. Power is the highest thing a person can have and once they have obtained it, what is there next move? Will they use it to manipulate and corrupt others for themselves or will they channel it for positive outcomes.
    5) “Power changes everything till it is difficult to say who the heroes are and who the villains.” ― Libba Bray, The Sweet Far Thing. These two quotes are similar how power can be used. In this case, power is used for corruption were it can change a society so much that it is unknown who is truly good and who is evil.
    6) A real life example, is Joseph Stalin, the dictator of the USSR. Stalin ruled through terror and was extremely paranoid. He slaughtered many innocent people in order to rule. Through The Great Purge, he murdered many of his own fearing they were going to betray him.
    7) In Macbeth, King Duncan is an example of a person who is truly good. Even though he became king of Scotland he remained good till his murder. However Macbeth is good example of a person who is corrupt and twisted.

  23. 1.Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States and is best known for issuing the Emancipation of Proclamation in 1836. The Emancipation was proclamation for the freedom for the slaves in the U.S. Best known for being in the Penny and the 5 dollar bill.

2.This quote means that a person's true character can change when given power. Power is a very powerful thing to understand and a responsibility to burden. A test in which whether people would succumb to corruption or not. Corruption can easily fall into the hands of mankind.

    3. I agree with this quote because it shows how human nature can change with the hands of power. Power can corrupt the sanity of people.

4.Nearly all people can stand hardships, but if you want to test a person’s true intentions, give him/her power and it will show what the true character really is.

5.A quote that expresses similar message is by Edmund Burke, and he states that "The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse." Edmund says that the having more power allows for more abuse.

6.A real life example would be famous people. Famous people rise to an occasion of using their riches for their own benefits. Their thirst for more wealth and power can make a person understand what their true intentions can be. Politicians in other counties get bought off the by people's money.

7.In Animal Farm and Macbeth, quotes can found spread out about corruption and power. With the power to rule over people becomes a source for corruption and greed. Macbeth became a king that ruled through fear and Napoleon, a boar that had complete control over the farm, which he used access propaganda and fear to rule. A lesson to be learned, to much power will lead into corruption when used carelessly.

  24. 1) Abraham Lincoln wrote this quote "Nearly all people can stand adversity, but if you want to test a person’s character, give him or her power." I know that he was the 16th president and helped free slaves.
    2) What the quote is telling me about Abraham Lincoln is that he believes there are two sides to people. There are the people who think or act like they have struggles more important then others, then there are the people who take advantage of things. If you give anyone of these people power they can be a whole, totally different person.
    3) Yes, I do agree with this quote because people really do change when they're in charge. Some even take advantage of it. Just take Hitler for example, he gained power then tried to wipe out an entire religion.
    4) Overall the quote is saying people change once they can be in charge and have all the power. They may seem nice at first only because there struggling and want your pity, but give them power and they could change in the blink of an eye.
5)"Bad company corrupts good character." -Menander This quote is similar because the bad company is or could be power and it affects the character of a good person. It only takes something as simple as power to change a persons perspective.
    6) I mentioned earlier hitler. I'm sure hitlers plan when he decided to become a dictator wasn't to kill off all Jews. Power changed him and he became power-hungry.
    7) In Animal Farm, Napoleon said at first "four legs good, two legs bad" but then changed it to "four legs good, two legs better." Napoleon didn't want the barn doing anything human, but at the end of the book he nearly became a human himself. Napoleon abused his power and took advantage of the other animals that weren't smart enough to figure it out. At first Napoleon was facing adversity from the humans, but once they were out the picture he became power-hungry.

  25. 1. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. He freed slaves according to the Emancipation Proclamation. Also gave his famous Gettysburg Address speech. He also led the country in the civil war, and was later assassinated by John Wilkes in a theater.

    2. This quote tells me that people will go through hardships, it's a way of life. Although we may be going through hard times we do face it. Abraham believes that with power does come responsibility. I presume that Abraham is a man that not not only thinks for himself, but is humble and aware of his surroundings.

    3. I totally agree with this quote, power is deceiving and must be used in a particular way. It's a test of showing what your true colors are, and revealing them towards the crowd in front of you. We all go through tough times, and if the power came for you to make a change, either the bad or good would come in the way.

    4. Hardships are sent out daily, hurting people. But if you want to see their true colors, give them power and let the sun shine or the rain fall.

    5. Another quote it resembles is "Power never takes a back step - only in the face of more power." Malcolm X. It resembles because of how it both explains on how power isn't something you could easily withdraw. With power, you need to make cautious decisions that you need to premeditate with.

    6. An example where this quote takes action would be with historical people like Fidel Castro. He overthrew someone in power, and once he had some of that power he did not want to let it go. Another would be sports players, they take all theses endorsements that are thrown at them to remain their strength in popularity.

    7. A text where this quote reigns supreme is in Animal Farm. In the beginning, Napoleon ruled out out "Four legs good, too legs bad". As time went on his thoughts of humans changed, and he slowly became a human himself. He abused his power and soon changed to "Four legs good, too legs better" changing his own perspective on what was allowed on the farm. Through his actions and thoughts, his views changed abusing the power that was carried.

  26. - The person who wrote this quote is Abraham Lincoln. He was the 16th president of U.S.A
    - I think what this quote is saying that everyone goes through hardships which shows character but if you want to see who they are give them authority.
-"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved" helen keller, its similar because it both talks about somebody's true character.
-we see this through in real life till this day. you see it in certain rappers that make really good quality music in the beginning of there career and once they get famous and rich there music changes because the don't care anymore.
    - this was in Macbeth because when he was a warrior in Scotland he honored the king. once he became thane of cawdor he wanted more power so he killed the king and it showed that he was power thirsty and once he was king he showed his true colors and was evil and sick.

    3. Yes, I agree with this quote, because if you want to see a person's true colors, you give them the power and test what they will do.
    4. Almost everyone can face challenges or difficulties, but it takes a real, strong person to have power and not be corrupt.
    5. I can compare this quote with the quote "The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse." by Edmund Burke, because in both quotes, they are stating that it's up to the person with the power to not be corrupt. The more you give them, the more they're going to abuse the use of it.
    6. An example in the real world where this quote rings true, are some celebrities. Some celebrities usually get discovered, and get famous in some cases, but forget where they came from. Once they get famous, it's all about them and their money. I believe that money can corrupt people once they are given the power.
    7. This quote can be found in books, such as Macbeth. Macbeth is a mighty warrior in the beginning, but once he murders king Duncan, he's willing to do anything to secure his position of power. He abuses it, and continues to commit crimes. He's just looking out for his best interest.

  28. Abraham Lincoln was the man who wrote the quote "Nearly all people can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's resolve, give him or her power." Abraham Lincoln the 16th president of the United States, was most famous for leading the Union during the Civil war and freeing african slaves from the white man. I agree with this quote because it demonstrates how you can't judge a book by it's cover. People can be very deceiving. I agree with this quote because this is just how people think! Your point-of-view will change if your enviroment changes.

There are a few examples in both fiction and real life that this quote applies to. In Macbeth, Macbeth was the obedient thane who was loyal to the king. However when given a taste of greater power,he could not resist and slaughtered his way to the top. Also in Animal Farm, it doesn't seem obvious that Napoleon had evil intentions at the start of the book. But when he realized that he could secure his power over the lesser species of the farm, he forced Snowball out and began his tyranny over the land. Also in Macbeth, Macbeth was a thane who was loyal to the bone at the beginning, but once he got a taste of greater power, he slaughtered his way to the top to secure the title of king. Last but not least, in China Mao Zedong was the weak communist rebel leader who took control in the fourties. My father who was a child in China at the time, told me first hand what living under his rule was like. He promised reforms like better living conditions and more land for peasants. However when Zedong really did take power, he could not deliver on his promises. Life was worse than it was before the rebellion.

  29. Abraham Lincoln wrote the quote. I know that Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president and that 15 other presidents were before him lol. He was tall with black hair and a receding hairline; unfortunately, he was killed in a theater.
This quote tells us that the author probably saw a lot of corruption and people taking too much power.
I agree with this quote because I have seen it come true in three texts and also in real life. In macbeth, the main character is so addicted to gaining power that he even send up murdering innocent people to keep his hunger for power. In animal farm, Napoleon uses his power to manipulate the farm animals into doing whatever he wants them to do. Venezuela is a real life example of this quote. Recently they had elections to choose their next president since the former one died unexpectedly from an illness. The president the people elected turned out to be a dictator and Venezuela is crumbling down as a country, all because one person took advantage of the power the people gave him. The quote says that if you want to make sure that someone has good intentions, then test their character by giving them power to see what they do with it l. "Power is always dangerous. Power attracts the worst and corrupts the best" is a quote with a similar meaning to Abe's quote. Power is almost always bad because it turns people into selfish and greedy monsters who want total control.

  30. 1.) This quote was written by Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was the 16th president of the U.S., he stayed in office for 4 years due to the fact that he was assassinated, he led the U.S. through its Civil War, and is widely known for ending slavery throughout the U.S.

2.) In this quote it states that although most of the people can overcome the hardships in life, when they are given power their character is tested because they are easily tempted by the thought of having an unlimited range to the things they can do. And as they start to get comfortable they slowly become corrupt wanting more and more. Seeing that the writer of this quote was Abraham Lincoln, a person who had lived during the time of slavery he is able to comprehend how power can be easily misused as he have seen how majority of the slave owners treat their slaves inhumanely.

3.) I agree with the quote because in my opinion power is a very hard thing to manipulate, if even for just a second you show your weakness it will engulf you and it will be hard to stand up again.

4.) If you want to test the durability, perseverance, or determination of people then watch them overcome their difficulties in which majority of the people can do, but if you really want to see their true nature then give them power.

5.) In the quote "Corruption is like a ball of snowball, once it sets a rolling it must increase" by Charles Caleb Colton, I believe that this quote and Lincoln's quote share some commonalities in which they both talk about the idea of power and corruption. In Lincoln's quote power is used as a test to a person's character because most of the people will end up getting addicted by it and will start to want more and more, while on Colton's quote it explains that corruption will never want you to ever want less because you are overwhelmed by all the power.

6.) One example of this quote happening in the real world was during the Industrial Revolution, as different companies, factories, and other manufacturing buildings boomed, the entrepreneurs or owners of those different buildings became wealthier while their workers were left in wretched conditions to work while having paid insufficient salary to provide for their families and became poorer.

7.) In the book Animal Farm, a character named Napoleon started of as a role model for the pigs to look up to but as the other animals became dependent on him, he became more arrogant and greedy and slowly turned into the person the animals tried to displace. He made himself wealthier while the animals starved to death. Also, in the book Macbeth, Macbeth was a loyal thane to the king but as the three Witches foretold his future and they came true, Macbeth turned into an unrecognizable character who sought power and wealth. He ended up taking all measures to retain his luxurious life and wanting more power for himself.
