It's summer. Scorching hot sun on your back is the least you wanted your summer to be made up of. As I leave the most excrutiating practice on that hot day, I want a nice clean shower. The sound is the trickling water clash against my head made me even sweat even more. The boling temperatures in my body are ready to hit the crisp shower water.
As the refreshing waters hit my dry, sweaty head I sigh in relief. The thirst for something cold in my body has been drunk with crystal sprinkling water. My hair turns a darker color as it absorbs its lusciousness. It lathers in the cool moment. Now I can't seem to get out of this "waterworld" or freshness.

As I reach into the freezer for a fast invigurating drink, I scoop out some rounded ice cubes. As it comes out of the freezer, it smokes with fogs with cooling air rising from it. You can feel the frost a few inches away.
As i sit down to enjoy my beverage, i play around with the ice cubes that make a tinkling sound against the tall dense glass of thick mango juice. With a spoon i lift the ice from the chilling mango juice. Inspired from the tag on youtube called the salt and ice challenge, i plopped the ice onto my arm. At first it made me have goosebumps all over for quite a awhile. The cooling touch gradually went to a frosty feel. As the seconds go by, the coldness isn't cold, instead it was a stinging sensation. The area affected by the ice now turned red and started to bruise. I could not bare the stinging sensation any longer.

The feeling of the grainy sand against my moist feet feels relaxing. I set up the fire with some packaged log. The color was an ash black. It was shaped as a perfect cylinder with much texture like a real tree. I set it down on the pit which was previously used. The ashes were a mixture of black and grey piled along the pit. When I ignited a flame on the log, it instantly spewed out heat that warmed my face. The embers would make the air above seem like flickering lights in the sky. The very center of the fire was the brightest part of the flames. The very top flickered in different directions in unpredictable ways.
As I am enjoying the glow of the fire, I hear clashing waves louder than the crackling of the fire. In the darkness of night, you could hear the waves scrape the sea cliffs. A hand reaching out and grabbing a chunk of sea rock then retrieving. It was more racous than lightning. And the worst part is that you are totally visionless to the phenomena that happened very three seconds.

It was a cold, gloomy morning. There were sheets of melting ice on shiny car windshields. These types of days were very similar to those warm Christmas mornings; where all the tired excited children would wake up extra early to help their mother’s prepare warm, delicious, cultural food. This holiday wasn’t just heartwarming but also satisfying because it was the one day you could stuff your stomach like there was no tomorrow. As you headed to the kitchen in your comfy pajamas you tip toed because the wood floor was ice cold on your little toes. Of course you’re still exhausted from the night before where you were also preparing food, but you immediately awaken due to the warmth of the oven. While your mother took the golden turkey out you watched with awe, your eyes gradually widened. The smell was irresistible the steam practically ran up your nose and shocked you. The gravy glided down the shiny, moist turkey so you ask your mother if you can have just a tiny, little piece to see if it actually tastes as good as it looks. Of course, she says a firm no, but you wait until she leaves so you can creep up to the stove and sneak a piece into your mouth. The moist, jelly textured skin melts into your mouth like ice cream on the fourth of July, you treasure that small piece but you also hurry because you don’t want to get caught.

I woke up warm and cozy, folded my fuzzy purple Justin Bieber blanket and shot out of bed. This was the only morning I felt motivated to go on a nice jog on my own. I had just bought new bright colored workout clothes, which gave me even more of a reason to exercise. I grabbed my Nike Free runs and headed out the door. It was searing hot outside, in the month of February, it was as if it was the start of summer break. The start of my jog started at the rocky Marina trail. The water was shiny with many rips of waves. I was on my fifth mile now, I stopped at a new looking water fountain, I splashed some cool, refreshing water on my face to help me rejuvenate. I had never felt so exhausted in my life.
    Prompt 3
I hop in my car, its 6:50AM, of course my mom would take forever to come out of the house the one day I’m late for AP World History. I was already having an exhausting morning and I couldn’t afford to be late. The time felt like it was going by faster than a cheetah running a marathon, and my mom was getting ready slower than a tortoise. I decided to turn the radio on, my eyes widened, was it really this song? The beginning sounds could already be recognized, I knew it was the song. It was the overrated song that everyone listened to in the sixth grade, “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha. The name of the song had already explained itself. I was slightly annoyed, but also amused because it made me remember the idiotic, regretful memories from middle school. This song immediately brought my bad mood to a huge smile.

  3. Artreau Sheppard Per.5 November 6, 2013 The 1st one I choose to write about is cool water running through your hair/over your head on a hot day. It was a super hot day that was hot as the sun. My body was weak, sluggish, burning, & drenched in sweat. But as I was about to faint I saw a bucket of ice water by my refrigerator. As I picked it up & poured it on my head the water gushed down on my head as if it was a stormy day. And thus fixed me from the sun like day to an Attic day in the snow. The 2nd one I'd picked is hearing a song you used to be obsessed with years ago . A thousand miles. As the song played on the radio I had flashbacks of me dancing like the Towns fool. The song was very catchy like a jingle. It was a song that I can be a kangaroo to. But as it went off it was as if my childhood drifted off. The the last one I picked is a horrible sunburn. It was as if my arm was on fire. It was a log at a camp fire with a stick with a marshmallow on it hovering over roasting. My arm was so badly sunburnt, It was as if the Sun had came down to earth and slapped my arm. And my arm bone was steaming as if it was just cooked in a pot of boiling water.

  4. Prompt 3
The sound of the song puts me in a trance. A state similar to that of nirvana. I feel that my soul is being lifted outside of my body and caressed by the music. It is as if for an entire 3 minutes I am not me but instead, the music and I have been synthesized together to create this being that nobody can see but only feel. I can feel the music running through my veins warm and tingly. The music creates nostalgic feelings from years past. Images and memories both good and bad alike appear in front of me. Its as if I am in a desert with no water and just start hallucinating. Although I am not actually dehydrated the illusions cause me to transcend into my own world. A world in which only the music and my memories lie. A giant movie theater with a million movies playing at the same time with the same song playing in each one. Then all together everything comes back together and I am in my body again as I hear the final strums of the guitar.
    Prompt 6
Oh the feeling of ice after a hard day at practice. Being able to soak my sore, warm, and sweat filled body in a pool of ice is both bone chilling and amazing. When you put one foot in you can feel it slowly going numb. You put one more foot in then now you have two numbed feet. After you get the courage to slowly lower your body into the ice you get scared at first because of how cold it is but eventually just plop in. When inside you can feel the ice seeping into your skin and numbing your bones slowly. That painful feeling of it being so cold that you start to hyperventilate isn't exactly the most fun thing in the world to do but the result is amazing. When the numbness kicks in and you can't feel your body anymore you feel calm and warm. Its as if you are in massage chair and a warm shower at the same time. You can just feel your body feeling slightly better by the minute. After a couple minutes have passed then you begin to feel your body again then slowly arise. When you get up you feel as though you have swam to the coldest abyss in the world then back to the warm surface of the water. At this point you feel revitalized and calm enough for a deep sleep.
    Prompt 11
Sitting by bonfires at a beach can be quite relaxing at night. Just sitting in front of the fire and listening to the waves hitting the rocks and everything in its path. The smell of the fire or water however isn't very pleasing until the water and the fire synthesize together to create some kind of new candle scent. You start feeling more relaxed and sleepy as the cool waves bring wind to you and the warm fire cancels it out for a comfortable bed like feeling. Next you hear the crackling of the fire and the crashing of the waves. You begin to feel as if you are in an eerie horror movie and someone is standing right there behind you awaiting to hurt you. As soon as you start to panic you look into the darkness that is the water. You start to realize that you can only see in that small radius around your fire. That is when that eerie horror movie like atmosphere begins to kick in even more. Everywhere you look you can see nothing but darkness for your imagination to paint a picture on. Naturally as you panic you look towards the sound which in this case happens to be the waves violently hitting rocks and everything on the beach. Your imagination takes the initiative and starts creating terrifying images of what it could possibly be. From the darkness anything can come out like a serial killer, a shark, a demon, a spirit, maybe even a crab or fish. It is all up to your imagination and there is absolutely nothing you can do but be brave.

The hot humid afternoon flew through the air like a blaze of fire. Everyone feeling groggy and giddy drenched in their own sweat. Galloping to the fountains eager to wash down in freezing cold water. We shot through swarms of people like a cheetah chasing its prey. Finally found the fountain secluded from the rest. We wrenched the knob unleashing a waterfall from the heavens. Droplets trickled down from our hair tips to our skin. Under this icy, penetrating, sub zero fluid, our pain was allayed, alleviated and assuaged.

Grapefruit, a sour, subtropical, semi-sweet fruit. The initiation of beginning the fruit starts with a tangy acidic like taste with a slight bitter feeling in the background. This explosion in your mouth starts a roller coaster ride varied with tastes. Tangy, acidic, bitter, lemony, salty sweet and then bitter again. A cycle going up and down as you munch through the entire grapefruit.

Beep beep, beep, the ovens done. Slowly opening door with impatient enthusiasm due to curiosity in which whether or not the turkey was okay. As the oven opened, succulent smells bolstered throughout the room salivating the mouths of many. The smell of seasoning, peppers, spices, and baked vegetables. The gravy, a hot melting pot of various ingredients. The steam embodied the smell of all as we followed it to the table of feasts.

It is November 28 which means it's Thanksgiving! Not only do you get to bond with family and friends but delicious food is always a must. The most important food for Thanksgiving is hands down turkey with gravy. As I walk into the kitchen, the smell of the spices and vegetables from the turkey filled the entire house and the sizzling sounds were heard for hours. As the shiny and golden turkey gets taken out of the oven, my mouth waters and I can feel the tingle of the spices on my tongue. My stomach starts to growl and I suddenly became extremely hungry and craved for that turkey. I took a piece of the meat and the gravy and turkey melted on my tongue like butter on a pan, the succulent meat bursted with rainbows of flavors and juice, and the texture of it was just right. The turkey was so delicious and flavorful that I ate half of it and still craving for more.

    Prompt 3
It is June 15, 2016 which is the day of my High School Graduation! It's been 4 years since I've been in high school and I'm finally done. I'm driving myself home after a graduation party and out of nowhere, my favorite song from years again, "Pocketful of Sunshine" comes onto the radio! Waves of memories starts to hit and before I even know it, the warm and salty tears are crawling down my face. I was in shock because so many emotions came running to my mind. I don't need to go to school every morning at 7:15 anymore, I don't get to see my friends and teachers everyday, I won't be able to walk up those long stairs anymore and wave to my classmates. All of those daily routines are going to be soon a memory. I feel nostalgic already and that song just really gave me a reality check and flashback. I remember singing that song from the top of my lungs during recess with all my friends and now we're all graduates. It's crazy how fast time flies but deep down, a gleam of sunshine really shone through my heart. I do miss those school days but those are memories that I cherish for the rest of my life. That song definitely does make me sad, but it is a realization for me that there is never the end, this is just a beginning of something new.

    Prompt 7
It is a 98 degree day and I was sweating rivers! I was extremely tired and thirsty because of the steaming weather. But off course I remembered that my grandma bought a large grapefruit in the fridge. I opened the fridge, and off course that piece of lifesaver is sitting on the fridge telling me to quench my thirst with it. I teared the grapefruit apart and I quickly sunk my mouth into it. The splash of juice bursted into my mouth, the citrus flavor left my mouth with tingles and the coldness made me refreshed again. I kept on eating and eating it until I finished the 6lb monster. It made me feel refreshed again and that was high light of the day!

  9. Ice, the cold feeling, the hot feeling, a feeling that the mind can describe giving you a sense of discomfort. Ice melting over your warm palm, dripping through clammy fingers towards the unknown. Place a cube of ice onto your chest, its intense like a staring contest between 2 blind people, who will win? Its cold, like falling off the titanic plumiting to your death into the deep blue water. Its overwelming these feelings, like seeing your dead parent at your front door asking you if you wanna go for a walk. These feelings all in the mind, telling you this is wrong, but if your mind was telling you this is right, how would you feel then?

2.My bed oh so comfortable, like sleeping in a lazyboy while on a rode trip while everyone else is in a wooden chair, why is other peoples discomfort pleasing to those who are comforted? snuggling into the cotton sheets witha luxury blanket tot top it all off? like a sundae with its final touches being a cherry. you can't wait to get home and climb into bed, sinking into the plush mattress claiming your body into it's inviting kingdom of comfort. As soon as you lay your head onto the familiar pillow,a cathartic release consumes your being, sleepiness is all that's on your mind. You didn't even realize how tired you were until after laying down, like sprinting 10miles and collapsing onto the ground to give into your body's weakness. snuggle into your frame and your bed does the rest, so once you've woken, you feel as good as a fresh glass of crisp cold orange juice waiting for you as your eyes open.

  10. Prompt 3 :
From the beginning bass slightly distorted, I knew I've encountered a song I haven't heard in years. The riff repeated itself very swift for about 4 bars, after that the light tambourine came in with a small melody. The synchronization of those 2 things together for even the start of 2 seconds was impeccable. After the 8th bar sharp hi hats rolled across the head of my skulls that greeted a bass drum and snare talking. Each of the instruments that were in playing had a unique swing that kicked everything else to the side of me.

    Prompt 4:
As I thought the day could get any better, I was right that my skin had been damaged by the sun. The skin of my face was flooded with redness that covered all around. I was like tiny needles kept poking me from every little twist and turn I make. I should've know that falling asleep in the sun was a bad choice, I was warned multiple times that a big consequence would come if I did manage to nap. I look like a big red tomato that can't quite look left neither interact with anyone until this goes away. Maybe next time when I swim in a hot weather I'll think twice of my actions before.

    Prompt 10:
Anxiously walking the whole day making sure I don't walk into anybody with my blistered hand. The night that this all happened all I was doing an art project with the use of a hot glue gun. Little did I know if I wore durable gloves this maybe wouldn't have happened, but I they were bare naked. It must have been the lack of sleep that caused this reaction, my eyes probably didn't capture enough to see where my hand was. The burn was terrible as I had to wait for the glue to dry before I was able to go quickly rinse off with cold water. But now as I was searching in my bag for homework, I popped the blister create an immense pain to my hand.

We have a 3-day weekend and I'm alone in my room with nothing else to do and nowhere else to go. My friends are all out having fun while I'm stuck at home watching tv shows. I decided to listen to some music so I went on Pandora and Not Your Birthday came on. It made me reminisce those days when I would come home from school and listen to it. I don't know why but I really liked that song back then and it was so catchy to me that I would always sing it and my mom would get annoyed because I sang the same lines over and over. At the same time, the word "birthday" in the title of the song reminded me that my birthday is coming up next month. It got me excited but then at the same time, I don't want it to come yet because I feel like I'm growing up too fast and becoming too old. I was bored to death and this day was a not-so-good yet a not-so-bad day but just like what the lyrics says, "Party like it's not your birthday..... This song's for anyone who's having the worst day." It's the kind of jam I will never get tired of listening to.

    PROMPT 4
July 2013 came around and as the days passed by, it got hotter and hotter. Taking a shower multiple times a day wasn't enough so I decided to go swimming for hours with my little brother every week. I would throw my bathing suit on, hurry to the pool and jump right in. The cold water and hot weather.... It was the best feeling ever but forgetting to put sunblock on and the outcome of swimming for hours was the worst feeling ever. Experiencing extremely uncomfortable sensations was horrible and my skin dried out. I hated washing my face because it felt like I was burning or some fire was near my face. I had to constantly apply moisturizer on my face to moisturize my face and to lessen the pain. I learned my lesson and I sure dont want to experience all that again.

    PROMPT 9
It's one of those days when you just dont want to get out of bed. You're so dead tired that your body cant even function right so you tell your mom about it and she lets you skip school. Your mom takes care of you right away and treats you like that baby that you used to be several years ago. She gives you medicine and lets you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed. She puts something cold on your forehead to bring your temperature down. She's taking care of you like you were a 7-year-old little kid who didnt want mommy to leave their side. You're being babied by her and she makes everything feel better.

I sat lifelessly on the hammock as the hot dry humid air clung onto me like a koala bear on a tree. Dazed, I wiped the beads of perspiration off my forehead and wished for the scorching hot sun to lay mercy and on me and chill. I decided to take a shower to cool down for the heat was just unbearable and it was only the afternoon. I aimlessly walked into the shower like a zombie and turned the knob waiting for the cold water to hit me like a waterfall. It felt rejuvenating when the cool water poured over my head and I felt refreshed. The sound of splattering water calmed me down and I felt at peace. I was happy as my dry sweaty head was being cleaned with the caring touches of the soft droplets of water. I brushed my hot clammy hands over my head and relished at the pleasure from the chilly water terminating my state of annoyance from the blazing sun moments ago. I happily hummed a merry tune as I continued to drown in this comfortable moment of coolness.

My dry parched throat beseeched for a drink when I sat down on the couch after a long day at school. I eagerly ran up to the fridge contemplating on what type of beverage I should drink to satisfy the thirsty monster inside of me. My eyes lit up when I saw the red Coca-Cola that looked like it was glowing among the dull water bottles in the fridge. I snatched it pulling the tab and gulped the drink as if I was stuck in the desert for days. The fizzy feeling bubbled over my tongue crazily and I imagined thousands of little bubbles fighting and jumping wildly over my tongue. I let a sigh of content when i felt myself relish at the satisfying feeling of swallowing the soda. I took another big gulp and squeezed my eyes shut when I felt the refreshing soda all rush down my throat. The bubbly feeling refused to leave my throat as I took another sip of the soda and clung onto me like a kid in quicksand.

I sat wearily in the car as my mom continued to ramble on about her eventful day with the warm heater air hugging me in a cozy embrace. I snuggled into my jacket I had covering my body and stared musingly at the traffic lights until everything blurred into a hazy vision. A familiar beat suddenly played slapping me out of my trance and I lifted my head up in surprise. I continued to stare in surprise at the car while all the gears in my head suddenly came into a halt. It suddenly hit me that this was the song I was obsessed with last year called Blue Jeans by Lana Del Rey. A nostalgic feeling rushed in my bones and all the old memories related to this song all slammed into my head like a swarm of bees over honey. I threw my snug blanket off and pat my mom on the shoulder loudly announcing my love for this song. She looked surprised and asked me if I was listening to her this whole time she was animatedly talking about her day. I shrugged and smiled happily tapping my feet on the firm car floor and enjoyed the beautiful melodies escaping from the speakers.

It's a very hot day, a perfect time to play with your friends, but at the end of the day the feeling of sogginess, sweatiness, and an overcooked head that came out from a blazing oven will corrupt your brain. And a cold shower is just the right remedy. Cold water running through your hair feels like ice caressing your head gently to assuage the fire corrupting your head that causes headaches. With the calming sound of droplets that lets you think about all the things that you did the whole day, making you better person for tomorrow.

    Prompt 5
The smell of an orange rind when you first break into it provides you a pleasant citrus aroma which reminds you of a childhood dish that your parents used to make for you during a nostalgic afternoon. But sometimes as you press and peel its layer, a small amount of its juice suddenly escapes from your fingers and pierces your eyes with its sourness. But all is forgiven and forgotten once you get to bite on the juicy, pulpous, rind-free orange.

    Prompt 8
The feeling of ice resting on your skin gives you a sensational feeling, especially when you're sick or you got injured, it provides a sense of catharsis. But it can turn into an unpleasant feeling once it's used as a prank or a revenge. As people used to say, "Revenge is a dish best served cold," and putting ice unexpectedly on someone is the best example. Putting ice on someone as a prank presents a very chilly and unpleasant feeling, like getting bombed unexpectedly by a foe and not knowing where or how to get rid of it.

Cool water running through your hair/ over your head on a hot day
Burning my body inside and out, can’t handle the heat anymore, sweating a waterfall just by sitting in the couch. There is no cold water to drink, the fridge is busted, only water as warm as tea on that hot day. Finally after hours the bathroom is finally open, the water is running. I’m aching to feel the cold luxury of the water. I throw my head into the shower and I shiver with a smile on my face. The feeling of sweat was gone, overpowered by the fresh shower water. I felt cool for what felt like the first time I could remember, I wanted to keep the water pounding on my head until my face was wrinkly from all the water. However, there were other people in the house too, burning just like me. I had to turn off the water in what felt like a few minutes but was shockingly a much longer time. The day of torturing heat was temporarily gone for an amazing 30 minutes.
    Prompt 2
My childhood friends, my brother, and I loved this song we heard on MTV when we were kids at the ages of 7, 8, 11, and 12. I didn’t know the name of the song but if any of us heard one line or even one word that is a specialty of that song that I now know is inappropriate for our age, we would reminisce about our childhood. Honestly, I felt like that song was our theme song for our childhood together. So much that we even made one word that we have only heard in the song and didn’t know the meaning of, have a meaning that only we knew. We made it mean bye, but we used it all the time at random, ablaing. When us friends came together for a sleep over and heard the song again in so many years we all sang along gladly. Personally, I have no idea what the meaning of the song is, but it sounded nice, funny, and it brings back memories. Even when all of us are old we will all recognize and love the song as much as we did when we were kids.
    Prompt 3
So cold that eventually it starts to burn and I can’t handle it anymore. When I was a kid and I got injured my mom put ice in a zip lock bag and forced me to keep it on the place where I was injured. It feels great for 10 seconds after that you are in an inner conflict with your skin, the ice, and mind. The instincts of the mind are telling me to take off the ice as soon as possible. However, my mom’s voice in my head is yelling at me to keep it on in order to heal. I was conflicted with how I felt and the fear of my mom as a kid. I always took the ice off, hoping that my mom wouldn’t notice, but she always did and she always forced the ice back on. 10 seconds of gratification then a minute of burning cold, mild torture. My mom was correct, ice helped my wounds heal. The ice wasn’t too excruciating for me, I was just too sensitive as a kid, and I still am. Even now the feeling of ice on my skin for an extended time makes me feel like I am receiving a cold ice wound.

  17. Prompt two:
The cheery music was drowned out by the wails of babies, the laughter of the younger kids, and the adult’s buzzing of joyful talking. I walked through the kitchen and inhaled all of the scents of spices, tender turkey, chocolate chip cookies and mashed potatoes all mixed in. I smiled to myself and felt blissful. As I narrowly dodged the stampede of kids and return the kind gestures, I absorbed the wonderful moment in my life. Surrounded by my two favorite things (family and food) made me very grateful. Those moments in my life are what really stand out and stay within my thoughts endlessly and what made me love thanksgiving so much.
    Prompt one:
As I laid on the grass, the searing rays of bright sunlight pierced my skin irritatingly. While I read my favorite book I tried to ignore the heat but eventually I felt perspiration on my forehead and sighed. ‘This is why fall is the best season’ I thought to myself frustrated. I walked back into my house and decided to shower. I walked into the shower and turned the water to the cold setting. The water shot out of the shower and the freezing water droplets squirmed through my hair and ran down. At first I felt extreme discomfort as the cold water danced down my sweaty scorching skin. As I embraced to the coolness I felt wonderful. The water weighed down my curls and cooled down my warm face.
    Prompt 11:
The tinkling of the short guitar notes danced through the night as the boy strummed it with his eyes closed, occasionally starting a song and humming to himself. The group of young adults sat on logs with blankets enveloping them. The fire in the middle shot out colors into the darkness, with orange, red, and yellow eliminating their peaceful faces. In the background the high waves crashed onto the rocks and crawled back into the vast ocean unwillingly. Again the dark dangerous waves hovered and slammed onto the shore. The sounds of the waves lapping the rocks, the pretty notes of the guitar, and the cracking of the fire soothed the teenagers and allowed them to remain in a state of paradise.

The harsh sun beat down on the back of my neck, tanning it golden. Beads of sweat poured down and clumps of damp, chocolate-brown hair stuck to my sticky skin. Lacking common sense due to the unforgiving heat, I ran home as fast as my short, chubby legs could move me. The foul odor of sweat filled the room as I entered my modest home. Looking to my right, Mom and Dad lay sprawled in the living room, eating chilled, juicy watermelon in front of the electric fan. Brushing off the temptation of the sweet, brightly colored fruit, I ran up the stairs two steps at a time. All I had in mind was a cold, refreshing shower to cool the flames of my day in the brutal summer sun. As I stepped into the cool, running water, all feelings of hatred toward California’s insane weather disappeared and was replaced with relief and content. Cold water rapidly hit my inflamed skin and rinsed my oily face. Filth washed down the drain along with discontent. Not quite done with the pleasure of cool water, I lingered in the shower and allowed water to run down my long, silky hair. Conscious of the amount of water I was wasting, I unwillingly turned off the water. A soothing, cold shower makes every hot day worth it.

    Prompt 5

Lazing around my room on a slow, Sunday afternoon, I hear the shrill beep of my house’s alarm system, signalling that my parents were home. I ran downstairs to punch in the 4-digit code that would unset the alarm. Entering the house with armfuls of shopping bags full of food, I unhesitatingly gave a helping hand in unloading the groceries. Everything seemed to be normal and within our weekly grocery routine: lactose-free milk, whole-grain wheat bread, bananas, green onions, and spinach. At the bottom of one bag laid a sweet (and sour) surprise. Unphased by them being out of season, I picked up a bag of oranges from the shopping bag with a twinkle in my eyes. Oranges are a pleasant surprise around this household. Ignoring the remaining bags of food scattered on our colorful kitchen table, I impatiently opened the bag of oranges and hunted for the orange with the deepest shade. Near the bottom of the bag, I found the perfect orange. It had a horseshoe shaped brown area on the side of the peel, but I am old enough to know that things like that don’t affect the sweet, juicy taste of the orange. With my long, uncut nails, I dug into the skin of the orange and the citrusy fragrance overpowered the room. The scent was a blend of sweet and sour with a smidge of summer. Juices covered my hand, coating it with the same, fruity smell. My mouth watered and I knew I picked the right orange. It was juicy, just the way I like it. Biting into the first slice took me into a new world of taste and satisfaction. Long after my orange was gone, the scent lingered. I finished putting away the groceries, not forgetting how delicious the orange was. As I headed back upstairs, my dad stopped me, sniffed the air, and asking, “Hey, did you eat one of my oranges?” Nervously looking around, I sprinted up the stairs screaming, “I love you dad!”

The first mellow strums of the guitar throw me back to my gloomy past of lonesome silence. I forget my reality and all I see is the dark, pathetic self who I once was. Crouched tightly in a ball much like a cowering child, I sat in my cramped closet waiting for the next day. Come the next day, my shoulders slumped in disappointment at the dull life I lead. It was the same tiresome routine of trying too hard only to come face to face with failure. Stopping to smell the roses was useless, as the usually sweet, fragrant smell had faded to be as dull as the rest of my life. All that made it worth striving was the fact that she would be there after school. We would talk until late night when only the stars were out to play and the soothing hum of her voice would bring me back to Earth. Her laugh sweetened my bitter heart and warmed me from the tip of my pale feet to the top of my chocolate-brown hair covered head. A pale, rosy color filled her cheeks as we fell deeper into a world of our own. Best friends, we were a perfect pair. In my moments of despair, she pulled out her experience-worn, acoustic guitar and strummed those light, peaceful notes that reached deep into my heart. The calm melody couldn't compare to her soft, reserved voice which sang to me almost as if reassuring me that everything would be alright. Words would shyly flow from her lips, as if she was afraid to speak, and compliment her guitar in the sweetest way. I was hypnotized by the work of art that filled my quiet bedroom. It wasn't something I could hold, but it was something I could feel. I felt it in my heart and it came out in the form of a radiant smile. As the song is coming to a close, I shake myself back to my reality. I am happy with my simple life and I am not the same absentminded person that I used to be. Every once and a while, I stop to smell the faint sweetness of the roses and laugh at the confused person who I once identified as.

Prompt 3- Hearing a song you used to be obsessed with years ago.
Hearing a song that i used to be obsessed with gives me the chills because it brings back memories when i use to hear that song. I love hearing throwbacks. It makes me super happy. I love music. Music is my escape from everything. For example School, Parents, Boyfriend, and friends. I don't like it when people want to talk to me when i have my earphones on. I don't think anyone does. But when i hear songs that i used to be obsessed with either makes me super happy or super sad. Depends on the memories i had or what that song reminds me of.

  32. Prompt 1:
Today’s heat is unrivaled, and you long for an escape from its furious fever. As difficult as this may seem, you happen to find something that could possibly remedy your crisis; at least for the moment. You grab a water bottle from the shade, and decide it would be best to just pour it on your head. So you twist off the top and proceed to indulge yourself. It's shocking at first, and almost a surprise. As a result you may shiver or twitch. For a moment you don't know what you’re feeling. There is a strange sensation that can neither be classified as hot nor cold. This is coupled with a tingling numbness that spreads throughout your body. As you begin to adjust to this odd, however very familiar sensation, it transforms into a cool, yet gentle grasp on your head. It continues on its path downwards with the help of gravity, and soon your hearing becomes momentarily hindered by the flowing liquid over your ears. This clear liquid gold now begins to rapidly fall away from your drenched head and dripping hair. It crashes to the dirt floor beneath you with a splash and the thirsty ground greedily drinks whatever isn’t instantly vaporized by the sweltering air around you. You relish in the sudden sense of fulfillment and relaxation. As well as the self-contradictory feelings of tiredness and alertness. You are melting away with the water and your mind is at ease.
    Prompt 6:
I am parched and in desperate need of some sort of beverage. So I begin to search for something to quench my thirst. My desire for hydration eventually leads me to the kitchen where I find my oasis, the refrigerator. I open the fridge and, although I was initially planning to get water, the red can of Coca Cola called out to me. The frosty can gives me goosebumps and I’m already anticipating the sweet taste of the fizzy drink. I pop open the can and I can hear the sizzling of bubbles fizzing in and out of existence. When I finally take the first sip, I feel a slight burning sensation on my tongue and throat. It’s as if there were millions of little people dancing all over my mouth. The feelings spreads to my nose and I am becoming enslaved to the sweetness. Before I even realize it, all the sodas gone and I’m left with satisfaction.
    Prompt 9:
Sickness for me has always come with nightmares and a sense of paranoia. My feverish head is lost in a dream like state and gets stuck there. While in my mind when even my own blankets are against me, a cool, caring touch always brings me back to reality. The pungent smell of medicine in the air is making me dizzy. The soft blankets are choking me and the silence is deafening. The sweat coating my skin is soaking the bed and my vision is blurring together. But none of that matters when a caring hand brings me relief. Their cool touch gives me goosebumps despite my internal heat. Regardless of the situation at hand, this small gesture gives me all the hope I need to recover.

When the soda sits in your mouth for a few seconds, you can feel little bubbles bouncing around your mouth. On hot days especially, the excitement of hearing the bass when you open a soda can brings a smile to my face. After taking the first sip of soda, you'll find yourself finding gratification and saying "aghh". Although all you want to do on a hot day is drink a can of soda, the con of it is the feeling you bet after you drink away the whole can. Your stomach starts to act up and it feels like you just finished eating at a feast but it's actually bloating and you feel like your stomach is full of air and the need to burp.

It's like going to Disneyland for the second time and realizing you love more than you did the first time, that's exactly the feeling of listening to a song after you stopped listening to it for long while. Before you never really listened to the lyrics but the rhythm of the song made you put a smile on your face but when you listen to the song again after a long time it's not the same. You find yourself reading the lyrics with your ears and that's when you realize what the song is actually about.

  35. As I walked home, I felt bead after bead of sweat drip down my face. I longed for a glass of water and started to run home. My shoes pounded the pavement as I ran with musings of a cool glass of water resting in my hand.As I practically rammed through the doors, I was exhausted and practially toppled over with asperation. I reached for the glass on the table which was covered in drops of dew and gulped it down in thirst. I wiped the excess water off of my chin with the tip of my sleeve.

I had gone to walgreens after school for a fine bottle of coca-cola. Tiredly, I stumbled over to the drinks aisle, pulled open the glass door, and took out the nearest bottle of the good stuff. Before reaching the register, I took a small sip of the drink. I felt the carbonated liquid pop on my tongue and fizzed from my throat as I drank. I reached the distant register, payed for my sugar rush in a bottle, and chugged the delicious bottle of the drink. The drink energized me like ecstasy.

After Track and Field practice, I discovered I had pulled my calf muscle and hobbled over to the car which would take me home. I practically crawled to the fridge, pulled out a bag of peas, and slapped it onto my leg, cooling it down instantly. The cold feeling of the peas made goosebumps run across my leg, but I kept the bag on there. Over a period of a few minutes, the sharp stab of the frozen bag resided and I relaxed into a chair and fell asleep.
