No I don't think companies should be able to hire only people who project the company image. I also think that it is discrimination. I say no because I don't think that every body would even be able to project the companies image. Also I say this because not even all the jobs in the company have a image that need an project, or even got one. A couple of examples I have is like comparing a board member or an person that work on commercials. A other one is like what if that company have an or a few janitors. But the company might need an project image but it depends on a few things. One thing is that it depends on how big the company is. A other one is like what type of company it is. I'm sure that there might be more examples but I don't know them. I say its discrimination because probably not every body can do the project so it will be messed up/out of pocket not to hire any body because of that reason. But it might not be discrimination based on what type of job company it is so I can't really say it's discrimination but I think it really depends on what job it is. And that's all I got to say about the matter. (per.5)

Companies shouldn't hire only people who project their image. Every one should have a equal chance to prove themselves. If someone who looks like the company wants them too but cant get the work done, whats the point of having them? unlike someone who doesn't look like the company wants them to put get all the work done correctly, this person whould be better than the person who can't do anything.
People always say that looks don't matter that only the inside does so why should this be any different? they can always just hire the people who get the work done and just make them look like their "company image."
I would consider it as discrimination. its discriminating people that dont look or represent their company. it's ohkay for a company to want their workers and company to look a certain way but to not hire people that have what it takes to be in their company isnt ohkay. like I said before they can alway make the people look the way they want them too.

  4. Companies should be able to hire whoever they think are worthy enough for the job, not only the people who project the company image, but also people who can improve to become what the company wants/needs. Being hired for a company also depends on how big the company is. If you’re applying for a large well-known company it is most likely that you’ll get a small job and get promoted later. If you’re applying for a company that isn’t very well-known there’s a high chance that you’ll get the job/role that you want if you’re impressive enough or have a connection with someone who works there.
I think that it isn’t discrimination if you’re not basing how you hire someone by their race, looks, or how they act. For example, in an episode of “That’s so Raven,” Raven tries to apply for a job and has all the abilities that the job needed but doesn’t get hired because of her race. Her best friend Chelsea, who is a different race from her gets hired and doesn’t have all the abilities that Raven has. To prove to her friends that she wasn’t lying she dressed up as a customer and made Chelsea wear a hat with a camera to record what the store manager said. While Raven acted like she was a customer she applied for a job at the same store and got interviewed. After the interview the manager threw her application away and Chelsea asked her why she did that. The manager said that she didn’t hire people who “look” like that. Chelsea had caught what she said on the camera and showed it to Raven at the end of the day. Once they had all the evidence they reported her and she lost her job and Raven became the manager.
Although companies should be able to choose who they want to hire, they should also be allowed to give jobs to people who really know what they’re doing, can represent the company’s image, and aren’t just there to socialize.
On the other hand I also believe that even though teens are still young and “don’t really need jobs” they should be treated the same way that adults get treated when applying for a job. When teens get treated differently as they’re applying for a job that can also count as discrimination. Most company managers or owners don’t even look at teen job applications as carefully as they would for an adult.
I strongly believe that companies should be able to make their own decisions on who gets the jobs, whether they project the company image or not. The power that companies have is a great amount. One thing that I definitely don’t take sides on is discrimination so companies should definitely not choose to make their decisions depending on how the person is. A company that makes decisions through discrimination is for sure not going to be a successful one.

  5. I think that a company has every right to choose who should represent their company and brand name. I can understand why a company would take into consideration about the appearance of their employees. Although I don’t agree that it is right to judge on thinks like race, weight, etc, I do understand why a brand would.
Companies want to attract costumers and will do anything for that, and something that is a major factor is the company image. If you are selling a brand for business people, you wouldn't allow a person who sagged, had tattoos, and was unshaven work at your store. You would want someone who was clean, professional, and had an image that you wanted your company to have. Companies don’t care about personal feelings and equality when it comes to image.
Companies also target a certain group of people which can be divided based on race, which can also be divided into wealth.

For example, Abercrombie and Fitch usually would target Caucasians/Whites because they would be the higher paying race. Clothing can also be classified for a certain race, so companies start out by choosing which group they want their image to be. Once they have, their reputation and image will be set.

No, companies should not be able to only hire people who project the company image, because it's just like judging a book by it's cover. You can see a person, and they might be the "company image" but deep down inside they might be the ugliest person. Companies should hire people who can always be on task with the job, not hire people just by their looks. If companies hire people just by their image, those people might not even be right for the job. The whole purpose of a job, is to make money, not only that, but to also make a living/ career. There are people out there working their butts off to make a living, when people hired for their looks isn't even doing as much work. There's no point, it's just going to make the company look bad if that "company image" person isn't really doing anything.

I would consider this as discrimination. The ugliest person can apply for the job, be right for it, and have the ambition/ work their butts off for it, and not be hired, or either hire the better looking person, and that person won't even do good in the job. Like what everyone says.. You shouldn't judge a person based on their looks, you should judge them based on their personality. Your looks are just a perk. It's better to hire the ugliest person with the best personality, because they can also please the customers, and that'll give the company more business. If you hire a better looking person, and that person just has the worst personality, just imagine how they'll treat the customers. The company will just lose more business. It's what matters on the inside, not the outside.

This is definitely an act of discrimination. While I don't tolerate discrimination, I believe this is acceptable depending on the company. This can be beneficial to some. In other companies, this sort of discrimination is completely unnecessary and does not reflect the work performance of employees.
Let's use a makeup company such as Maybelline or L'oreal for example. In hiring models for their product advertisement, it only makes sense that they pick people with a particular imagine. Those sort of companies endorse their products using youthful looking women with beautiful features and nice skin. This is because that is what they want their customers to think when they see and use their products: young, beautiful, fresh. That is a major part in makeup sales. It is less likely that their products would be purchased if their products were endorsed using any average woman off the streets.
Still sticking with makeup companies, I have my second point of image not playing a role in the quality of work. Clearly, this is not the case with models, but it applies to the people who work behind the scenes: the people who make the product. One does not need to be young, beautiful, and fresh to work in a factory that creates the product. Any person could possess the skills necessary to do that work. Factory workers are not used in the marketing of the product and people could unfortunately care less about them. The factory workers are the people that the consumers seldom think about.
Over all, discrimination can be beneficial or pointless depending on the line of work. I think companies should be free to discriminate to their heart's content so long as there is good reason behind it. People should be recognized for their strengths and chosen from their ability to perform the task or job given to them. Everyone has potential in some line of work and shouldn't feel discouraged just because somebody doesn't acknowledge their ability in one career.

  8. No, companies should not be able to only hire people who have a certain look or are a certain race. That is a major issue with discrimination Races are told they cant do certain things based on their race. is racism. Companies should hire some one who knows what they're doing and based on their knowledge not on their looks. They could really know what they're doing but not have the look which would be a loss to the company if they didn't hire them.
There are laws on a federal level that prohibit discrimination and hate crime to a race. So if a company did hire someone based on their race a person cold take it to court, meaning its not right. If its illegal its obviously not right and should not happen. The U.S is about equality and it even says in the Pledge of Allegiance "with liberty and justice for all" stating that every citizen should be treated fair.

No I think that companies shouldn't have people that projects the companies image because then that so bland and old. Its just gonna make people think things like "eww why do they look disgusting or why cant i be like them."

This is also unfair because everyone is different, no ones the same, it's who we are. It's like that say " why waste so much energy being someone your not, when you can be you and just as awesome."

This is definitely discrimination because their just picking the blindly picking the hot guys and passing up the good opportunities It's like throwing away a diamond and picking up a rock.Sure it might shine for that period but once it starts revealing what it actually is it's gonna crumble and it's gonna drag you down with it.

It also would be better if they would have more varieties because everyone has their own perspective and we might no like what others like. we all are different wither it's our taste, style, culture, belief, etc. People will also get sick of the same old things repeating. they will all have enough of it and throw it away like nothing.

Companies shouldn't hire people just because of their looks. They should be smarter and employ people that actually have the experience and skills. The people that actually have the skills will help the company shoot to the skys.

Why are companies even more worried about their models than their products? It's like saying who cares about our products, as long as we got sexy people, we're god. You are not selling models, you are selling your products! Wake up and open your eyes. If you really want to grow and excel in your company than you have to focus more on your products and less on your models. I know their gorgeous and sexy but you gotta focus and work. The product is the subject not the helper.

  10. Manuel Carrasco (period 5) I think companies have the right to do this. I just don't think that this is the right way to hire someone for a job. Why should they have to look a certain way or be a certain race? Even if they do have the right; they shouldn't do it. It's like saying you could rob a bank, but I'm not saying you should.
People should be hired off of there work skills and experience of the job there applying for. If you do hire someone that just looks like they could job,but can't then how are they suppose to help the company. This is discrimination and I'm entirely against it. It's like being racist which i hate or strongly dislike the most. This is discrimination because it's saying you can't or can be hired by what race or what you look like for a job.If this isn't a law yet; the government should make it one.If the person is hard worker and knows what there doing should get the job. Some person who just looks like the person for the job can screw up and can give the company a bad reputation.

I believe that companies should hire anyone who is qualified for the job, if they project the company image or not. Every person in our world needs a job if they want to make a living someday, and people need the most qualified person for a specific job. It is discrimination if they only hire people who project the company image. Discrimination is a thing that shouldn’t exist in our society today, but it sadly still does, people still discriminate. However, it’s up to people who care to try to at least to help a little to end discrimination, starting with hiring any kind of person, no matter how they are, and not to judge anyone.

One example is having only Chinese people serve Chinese food in a restaurant while I see a Latino person cooking in the kitchen or cleaning up tables. Why can’t they serve the customers? Or a toy company making dolls only hiring attractive white females (this probably doesn’t happen, but it’s an example of what would happen if companies were able to only hire people who project the company image.) another unjust example that could happen if companies were able to only hire people who project the company image is only muscular body builders working in a GNC. My final example is not allowing a nationality other than American to become a manager of their business, an example of racist discrimination. The point of all of these insane examples is that it’s not right to only hire people who project the company image. All types of people should be allowed an equal opportunity for the job no matter how they are if they are qualified. Like Latinos serving Chinese food, unattractive males working for a toy doll company, skinny nutritionists working in GNC, and a Filipino who just came to America a few years ago becoming a manager of a big store of apple computers.

I believe that if companies hire all kinds of people then they would be a better company. They would have better employees, and more groups of customers due to their anti-discrimination. Customers would love it if people like them are serving them, instead of the expected people that would serve them, (well, at least in my opinion). I for one would like that twist of having employees that don’t project the company image. It would be something I would do when I open up my business in the future.

Although Companies may be discriminating people in their hiring process, it is their company so they should be able to do as they please. A company has its own bias and preferences on their ideal worker and that is perfectly normal and fine. They are all human in the end and that is how we tend to be as humans.

Some companies prefer to have people that are more attractive while others look for people with higher intelligence. That is perfectly fine since everyone does what they want according to their preferences. A person obviously won't higher someone they don't want even though they may be highly qualified or perfect for the job purely because the company just doesn't want them. A good way to think of this is through eating foods you like and don't like. If two plates are set in front of you, one being your absolute and most favorite food in the world while the other is the one food you despise more than anything. Which one would you take? Now your average person would obviously choose the one you like purely because you just happen to love the food. That is exactly how companies are in their hiring process. They may have one highly qualified and not as preferable (unappealing food to the person) or someone that is highly preferable but not as qualified (appealing food to the person), so some places being the way they are, stick to what they want just because they want it like that.

On the other hand it is terrible for companies to just discriminate people that should have the job from the people who are hired but could know little to nothing about the job. It is extremely unfair and wrong for companies to do this to people. If a person is qualified for the job and/or exceeds requirements for the job then that person should be hired for the job rather than someone who doesn't even meet the requirements. For example if two people went to a place like Hollister or another clothing store for a job and only one can be hired, the company will discriminate against the two and pick the one according to their liking. The one that would be ideal and hired there would be an attractive male or female that could possibly know nothing of what to do while the person that is extremely intelligent and knows everything about the business but is not as attractive will not get hired just for that reason. This is highly illogical and unfair for the person or people who don't get hired. Those people that are qualified should get the job but don't just because they aren't as attractive. Although that is how companies tend to hire their people these days, it is something that should be stopped since it is unfair for those that clearly should get the job.

No because no one likes being judged on the way they look. Because companies for example Abercrombie and Fitch are really judging people on the way they look witch is like judging a book by its cover. The discrimination of companies doing this is also against the law. Plus companies should just judged people on the way they make a business and often stuff from people who have jobs said they experince this and they also say they would stand up for that person who is getting talked about behind their back.
In addition there bosses don’t really say any thing about it because they don’t care.
Even at times they agree because they also would have people on magazines where people in real life want to look like them because they don’t think there looking good enough expesially girls.
Plus women should not be discriminated on the way they look its how you do and work in the inside that is what counts. So companies before you just turn people down you probably would have lost a hard working man/women who works their butt off and probably wanted this job and you guys would have turned them down because they don’t look a certain way. By all means you could have been that person who does not have a job but look a way where they want you and you cant work because you don’t have that experience of working and then they don’t want you to work for them.

Companies today should not simply hire people based on their image but also their skill and other characteristics. I believe it is discrimination when a company chooses a person based on their image rather than a more functional person because they disregard other positive aspects of that person, they have certain biases over them and only hire based on the stereotypes of people (race, religion, gender, and gender orientation).

Companies such as Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister usually have their own image of what their workers should look like; people who are physically fit, good looking, tan and model like. Companies are hiring people who may have the image but no skill in the job. A person with better qualifications will be rejected due to their image, while someone with lesser qualifications will be hired due to their image. This is discrimination because they overlook qualifications that may actually help their company be more efficient, for an image they create to satisfy their customers.

Another reason people may not get hired due to discrimination may be a result of their race, gender, religion, and gender orientation. This is discrimination because all of these aspects have nothing to do with the determination of skill.

In the end discrimination during hiring can be avoided if these companies hire based on the actual qualifications of the person instead of their image.

  15. I think companies have the rights to choose who they want for the job,if someone has a bad background why hire them? Although, i do think if the company is not hiring someone because of there race, weight or religion i think that is messed up and in that context i think that is discrimination. I think a couple years back hollister were only hiring people that were white/blonde/fit.That, i disagree with very much, but if someone that you interview does not have the requirements i dont think you have to take them. I think getting a job should be based on there experience in there job and the skills they have to do their job. If an employee is willing to do that then i think thats what the jobs "image" should be. Would it even be possible to hire everyone you think is the companies image? If people are willing to rep there company let them but not everyone is going to want to. In this time that we live in i think many have overcame racism and discrimination but if the people who are determining the peoples job off of there race/religion why are they in there position? I think companies should be able to hire whoever they want but if there are things that happen like what happened at hollister don't expect people to buy your product. I don't think discrimination towards who you are choosing to employ or do buisness with is ok. If someone that does not have the company image, who has better skill than someone who does, but knows not a thing of what there doing i think is wrong and is a loss for both sides. Someone who is educated on the job but cant get a job say because hes 20 pounds over weight now struggles because he isn't trained for another job. Someone that is clueless but has a 6 pack gets it and doesn't know how to work anything . brandon biddle 5

  16. I think that companies do have the right to hire whoever they want to. Although that does not mean that its the right thing to do. That is discrimination and that shouldn't be something that companies want to be known for because that gives there company a bad name. Also it is understandable when a person is not physically prepared for the job, why hire a person who will fail and look bad and also make your company feel bad and put your company name on the line. There are also understandings of a persons background. If you have a criminal background for theft, rape cases, Drugs, Why in the world should anyone hire you? it shows Your lazy, that you cant do things for yourself, you choose the illegal way, and your just straight stupid. There are times when i go to stores like ambercrombie & fitch and hollister and all i see working there is guys with six packs.I mean like come on people just because the person who applies for the job Doesnt have blonde hair and a six pack doesn't mean that you shouldn't hire him, because that person maybe be very good with business and he/she may know how to help out you company, so really your the one who's missing out. Just because Someone is a certain color, is 10Ibs over weight does not mean that you shouldn't hire that person, There are people out there that are dying to get a job right now, To feed there families and pay the bills. We live in a struggle everyday and we cant afford to discriminate people who are applying for these jobs and people who give it there all and try very hard to get the job. The whole point is don't discriminate people, we already have way to much of that and we don't need anymore of it. Just be fair in all that we do. If you really want to run and have a good business you would hire the person who has the most knowledge and actually knows what hes doing and not the person who looks the best.

  17. I think that companies should and shouldn't be able to hire people that project the company image. If someone walked into Abercrombie and Fitch and saw someone of color who may be overweight modeling for the store or in the pictures that they fashionably put all over the chain of stores, then Americans wouldn't want to buy the product. Also if someone walked into Mcdonalds and the cashier was a pretty caucasian with long hair, thin frame, and pretty eyes, then the customer might feel that the cashier is to good looking to be working there. The cashier doesn't fit the image of being someone that works for a fast-food restaurant, then who would fit the image? Maybe some African american with a poor background. Then the customer would feel more comfortable eating there, unfortunately this is the way "Corporate America" has programmed those who live in the U.S, and it's not just in the U.S where people have been programmed that beauty is better than hard work, racism has been on the planet for centuries, and really not many people know the origin of which it came about. Was it once slavery started? When pilgrims felt that they had a right to land that wasn't theirs so they decided to kill the Indians that lived there and conquer it and for themselves with violence and bloodshed? It is an issue of discrimination, sexism, and racism because people should be able to work where they fit in. If they have the skills and the ability to do the job, even better than someone who might fit the description of the companies image, then they should. It shouldn't matter what a person looks like. But these days corporations, companies, and stock holders only care about profit, not the value of people. Morals may live in people, but not many people follow them because of the fixation on money. A pointless piece of paper that white men made to control everything and everyone. Now today people kill, steal, and lie just to get it. There's a deeper meaning or answer to every question. Everything has an origin of how it became, not just oh chicken nuggets are made out of chicken and seasoning, but what type of seasoning? Where were the chickens raised? What was the process of how chicken nuggets are manufactured? And we come back to why companies want to pick people to fit their image. It's discrimination and it's been living for centuries. A way of thinking that someone is better than someone else because of material possessions, or someone has better features than someone else. I believe peoples mentalities need to change instead of companies changing, that's the only way these problems will be solved.

No companies should not hire people who fit their image or project their company. Its discriminating people who might not be as good looking enough for them. Companies should know that they should people based on what they do not how they look. People should be hired by how they function not their apparel.

They focus on how they look because they want to help their company. They don't just choose people to project for them. Not every company is American Eagle or Hollister. But not every company is a clothing line. But it helps the people who project the image.

But remember, the people who look who project the image its their job. I'm still on the side that it is discriminating. But they get paid to do that. So they pay the people who they think are good looking enough. The do not care about intellect, or if they work, just their look.

Just to end it, companies who choose certain people, are just discriminating for money. For example a weight loss pill will have a fat person at the end a skinny one. They don't even pay the those employees that much unless its a big company. But there is no way to stop that people need money

I believe that companies shouldn't be able to hire people with a certain appearance but I believe that the company just wants promote their business. This is discrimination because they hire someone of their personal liking. They choose people with attractive and muscular looks which I personally think isn't fair to the people who aren't able to achieve those characteristics. Everyone is different inside and outside, one person may be good looking and other might be smart. The thing is that everyone has a talent that is only inside yourself. Companies shouldn't aim for a certain race, weight, and appearance but someone who has a motivation and ambition to work on what they would love to do.

I do believe if you are a hard worker or a person that accomplish on always trying your best, then they should be able to be hired even if they don't project a certain image that a company wants. No matter what you look like, companies shouldn't be able discriminate on how someone should look like. If owning a company require for me to hire people who possess only good looks then the company wouldn't reach to new heights. Always have complete belief in yourself and be positive. Looks aren't everything and through hard work, your life will feel like you achieved many things.

Companies should not be able to only hire people who project the company image. They should hire people based on the skill and knowledge they possess. It is discrimination because you are overlooking someone because of the way they look or dress. Everyone should have an equal opportunity to apply for the same job if they have similar skills and techniques. It is unfair if the better looking person gets the job even if they are not as good as the other applicant which may seem less presentable. A person who is less presentable might do a better job at doing their work than someone who is pretty or handsome. For example, if someone is dealing with a rude customer, the better looking person might have less of a sense of problem solving and can cause very big problems. A person who does know what they are doing may easily solve the problem and cause no trouble. Therefore, companies should not hire people based on the way they look or act. People should be chosen based on experience and skill. Some people work and study really hard for a certain job they want, and if they don’t get picked because of their look then it is totally unfair.
No one should be judged on the way they look and it is not right for companies to pick someone based on their race, height, speech, etc. Companies like Abercrombie and Fitch have a criteria for picking employees based on the way they look, and I think it is very unfair. Some workers there may be good looking but also slack off and are disrespectful. Bad employees give the company a bad image.

I strongly believe that companies shouldn't be able to only hire people because of what they look like. Companies don't make money just because their employes dress/look a certain way so why only hire those people? Everyone deserves a fair chance at everything especially a job. If someone doesn't fit a company's image but can do the job better then there's no point on hiring the one who does fit in the company's image but can't do the job. It is discrimination because they are treating them based on their looks and I'm almost sure that discrimination is illegal.

For example, Zumiez only seems to hire people who have a skater sense of style but I'm pretty sure that doesn't increase their sales by any means. Would you buy a product from someone just because they're good looking? Or would you buy the same product from someone that has valid reasons on why you should buy the product? As long as the employee is well polished and matches the personality that the job requires then the way they dress/look shouldn't matter when hiring someone.

Big companies like Abercrombie & Fitch for example have a strict dress code the prohibits any religious wear like cross necklaces. What happened to religious freedom? Doesn't this apply to this? People can't express their religious views now? 4 years ago a 17 year employee at Abercrombie & Fitch was asked to take off her cross necklace because "it was not in the dress code", she was forced to take it off and crumble it in her pocket. Various other incidents like these have happened at Abercrombie & Fitch and lawsuits have been filed against them.

Companies should not be able to choose their employes just because they look a certain way and i hope companies don't continue doing this. Everyone deserves a fair chance at a job and the education the applicants have should be the only reason why they choose them. Honestly who would want to go to a store and have everyone look the same?! That would be boring! I envision that companies like Abercrombie & Fitch & Zumiez start hiring people of different ethnicities and religious backgrounds and maybe they'll stop losing money on lawsuits against them because of discrimination. Everyone is equal regardless of what they believe in, wear, or look like and therefore everyone should be treated equal.

  23. I believe that Companies have every right to pick whichever person they want to work for that particular business. It could go into context on what those peoples backgrounds are like and if they’re actually a positive choice for that environment. But for example if someone applying for the job that's been to jail twice for theft, curses a lot, and argues with anyone that that doesn’t agree with them, then that might be a problem. I think that even if you’re a decent person you should some how symbolize the company in some way. If a person who applies for a job at a skateboard shop doesn’t have a lot of knowledge based on what the companies about which could be difficult.
Self Image has to do a lot with first impressions in this world. Someone that is maybe overweight and is desperate for a job that applies for a place at Abercrombie and Fitch might get put down. And the only reason why is that they want someone else would be they want someone who is reflected towards what the business is all about. But I guarantee if they tried to work at Target, Macy’s, or some shoe store there wouldn't be a big problem. I do think that companies could hire whoever they want, and knowledge of that particular business is important. But it’s all about the money and what grabs the peoples attention to raising that money.
The most important thing for the company overall is to just have someone complete that job. When it comes down they’re going to need help with getting every task done and I'm sure that if that company is desperate enough they will take them. Peoples images take a role but what needs to get done is the best anyone could do. Yeah sure maybe a guy that has a 6 pack with wavy blonde hair could win a job over at Hollister anytime, but if they have a hard time with everything that wasn’t a good decision. Anyone who has enough skill to hold down everything should receive that specific job, but if appearance brings that money attention a reconsideration may happen.

Personally, I think it kind of depends on how the company image is defined but I know for a fact that companies have the right to do what they want, when they want and how they want. Obviously, the reason why they built their own company is because they dont like taking directions from other people. Although we all know that racism/discrimination still exists today, it cant be stopped and we cant control what other people thinks or what they say which is really sad because people shouldn’t be biased; everyone was made differently and uniquely.
Based on my own opinion, I do not think that companies should only hire the people who would project their company image because I believe that everyone is beautiful and that you shouldn’t be judged based on your looks whether you’re fat or skinny, tall or short, blonde or brunette, you have colored skin or not, etc etc.
Also, it’s not discrimination if you only want the best people who would represent your company image and by best, I mean their attitude towards constumers or if they have the brains to think about new designs, trends or something like that. Though it is discrimination if you start to hire people based on their looks, how they dress or based on their religion. Furthermore, it is discrimination if they only want people for their looks but not someone who would project good values to their company.
For me, the context of why stores like Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch only hire certain people is because they know that some people go to their store just to check out the guys or girls that work there. We all know that the target market in the business industry are ALWAYS teenagers that’s why they would do anything just to attract the eyes of teenage girls and boys. Moreover, companies know for a fact that if they hire hot or cute employees, then more teens will go to their store and talk about them. It’s all just propaganda... sort of!

I think companies can and will hire anyone they want. If I were working at a shipping yard and a short guy who is 5 foot 3 inches and weighted 234 pounds wanted a job at driving packing and stocking shelves for shipment orders I would take one look and assume he was lazy. People who are in charge of expanding their companies are should and are very picky at the people they want. At Victoria Secret's they will not hire any men or women to work at the front desk if they are not "good looking". Why you ask? Because when women come to a store to buy under garments and lotion for a high price they want to come to the counter and look at an attractive cashier. It definitely makes it easier and a better experience. This I only know from asking people who have gone there. Take a gym for example. People go there to work out and get their bodies into shape. gyms are extremely judgmental of the people they hire. they do not want overweight people to work there because it will make the place look bad as if the gym will not help you become healthy and in great shape. the actual physical shape of the employees does not affect the health of the people who attend the gym but it is all about appearance. So that is why if you got to any gym the people you see working there who are in good shape. On the contrary there are man jobs that do not need any specific look it may be a specific sound. such as telemarketer . working at this particular job you don't need to look good you just need to have a voice that sounds good over the phone.

I believe companies have the right to chose who they want to hire to represent their company to an extent. People that own a company have worked hard to build up their company. I think they should at least get to chose who they want to hire to an extent. I don't believe companies should have the right to not higher someone just because of their race but if you show you're not worthy of the job by the way that you look or act they have every right not to hire you. Even though I feel that if there where to hire people that shop there like at Hollister or Abercrombie people would feel more comfortable shopping there because they are being surrounded by normal average looking, not like someone beautiful and they will probably never look like that work there. I feel like hiring certain people will make more people want to shop their because they want to be like the people that work there. Bigger companies also want someone who represents the company and makes them look good not make it look bad by the employees that they hire. Most small companies have that problem just like big companies because they're building up their business.

If a company has an expectation that they want to meet and they have high standards its up to the companies what they choose to do to keep that standard high. For example Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister both have expectations of how things should look and if you necessary don't go with their vibe that they set then you shouldn't work their and if they don't want to hire you that's up to them. If companies don't hire you because of your race I don't think they should be aloud to do that because your race has nothing to do with your ability to do a job nor does it affect how a company looks.

I don't believe this is discrimination because if they want to make their company look a certain way and attract customers that they are targeting and they don't think you can do that because they don't like your attitude and how it affects their company would just make people just not shop there. If the way an employee acts or look affects the company then you should not be allowed to work their. you are affecting their image that they have build.

There are many kinds of businesses and companies in this world. Generally speaking most companies do not need you to look super attractive or a certain way for them to hire you. However, there are some cases where they might do. Companies should be able to hire whomever is most qualified for that job they are hiring for.

Obviously, if you are someone who is hiring people, you want to hire someone who can do the job well. If you are someone who works on the behind-the-scene stuff like the product manager or marketing team, you probably won't need to have great looks, but if you are trying to become a model for a clothing company, you will probably need to look attractive. Depending on the business, maybe only hiring attractive people for clerks, waiters/waitresses, etc. increases sales. On cases like these, you can't really blame the company. Everyone would do the same of hiring only attractive people if it was an increase in business. It would be very stupid not to.

I would not say this is discrimination per se. As I mentioned before, sometimes it is just better for their business in terms of profit and sales, so you can't really blame them. They are not doing it because they hate other people, but it is just better for their business. In this case it would not be discrimination. A case of discrimination would be if the company says they are not hiring a group of people because of hate related motives. In this day and age, most companies in the U.S. would not do that.

All in all, it really depends on the context of the situation, so it is hard to say whether the company is discriminating or not. Companies should decide whether they want to hire people that only represent their company image or not. If it is better for business, then so be it because after all, the bottom line is what all that matters.

I oppose to the idea of companies hiring only a certain individual based on their looks. Although some customers would choose a company with a better image for a product, and companies having their own ways to improve their sales, such as employing beautiful people, they should not confuse these reasons when hiring all employees, because each person is different and has a certain quality that others might not possess. They should choose among the best applicants, meaning having the "total package," and not just anybody, because one person could ruin the company's image or the whole thing.

Hiring only people who could project the company's image is not discrimination. Because they are simply showing their interests that might be for the better of the company or marketing strategy, and they just want to be well represented. They want and do what is best for their company, which is the right thing and smart thing to do. Choosing the best applicants is how to do business and to stay in business.

I think that some companies hire people who look good and not over weight because they want their employees to be look perfect for the customers.I think companies can do that if they want to,but just because someone is overweight or dosnt look as good dosnt mean that they cannot work as good as everybody else.I think that companies should hire people from their experience in past jobs, skills, and customer service.

Alot of companies, especially A&F,only hire people who look good.Sometimes its a good thing for the company, but sometimes they might not do the job right and be really lazy about it and not care because they know that they wont get fired because they meet the requirments of
the company. The reason why alot of companies are very picky with their employees is because when customers come to buy products, the would much rather be helped with an attractive person then a non attractive person.

This is really unfair to alot of people who are overweight or not good looking but the companies want alot of sales, and they think the better looking the employee is,the more customers will buy.Even though the emlpoyee
may not have good skills or alot of experience the company would much rather have them then an unattractive emloyee.I think companies could do this if they wan to but they are risking alot, because they are not hiring people with good skills and alot of experience.

Yes this is discrimination because they are not accepting people because they are very bias about who they want to hire and are not giving chances to people who really deserve it.

  31. Yes, I think they should discriminate against people when it comes to hiring. You have to create a comany image in a job. You have to look for a couple things in a person. One is image. You have to hire a handsome person as a sales rep. or a cute girl for Victoria's Secret. I think that this is of the essence. Another is talking to people. You have to be social when it comes to most jobs. You have to be social to work jobs like telephone marketer, salesmen, and business people. Another thing is smarts. A employee has to be qualified for the job. If you need a computer technician, you need to make a degree of some sort. If you need a spokes person for your company, you need to hire a social, serious, and happy person. They couldn't seize up in fear when they're talking. The final thing I have to talk about is the interview for the job itself. You can avoid the situations I already talked about if you can discover them during the interview. You have to look for tells like is he taps his leg or bites his nails, he's nervous. You have to find out the pros and cons in the person. So what im trying to say it, it is not right to descriminate, but it is essential in some siituations like this. You must find out their look, smarts, and brains are goo enough for the job, to work for you.

  32. I think that companies should hire a job done right. The people who are eligible to the job shouldn't be based on how they look but how they work. The company shouldn't be biased about who they choose. Anybody who is of any race can represent the company. Companies don't make as much as a profit if all the workers looked the same and uniform. People would also be enraged if the company only accepted people of a certain type. Some consumers won't buy their product isn't for them specifically. I think that companies shouldn't be worried about how you look or your appearances. Anybody can do the job because they are skilled and talented. They could be of any race or gender. It doesn't matter because whats important is the job that needs to be done.
The job shouldn't be placed for somebody to look a certain way. Gender, race shouldn't be the problem. If any company does judge you them the boss is racist or sexist. They also do not have a diverse company and very wide varieties of ideas from other people whom they have not hired because of how they look. Its very sad that people pick and choose the applicant. Our society is the most diverse yet very closed minded too.

  33. I believe that people shouldn't hire people that only picture the companies image. This is discrimination which is judging someone bot by the inside but on the outside. Now discrimination has been going on for many years & may never stop because some people just are like this.
One example of discrimination is if two men go and apply for a company. One man is tall, white, blond hair, muscular, went to college got his education, graduated, got a degree, & now napplying for a company. Now this other man is also slightly tall, hispanic, brown hair, muscular, went to college got his education, got a degree, and now applying for a company. These men are not that much different just on there phisical appearance.
Obviously the white american looking man would get chosen because he is the companys image apposed to the other guy that are slightly similar except there phisycal appearance.
To conclude this topic i think that were all humans and deserve equal rights. No one should be turned down or discriminated this way & put there dreams in shaders.

I strongly think that a business should hire anyone who is capable of doing the job. Hiring only people that will create a good image for the company is wrong. I do believe that doing that is considered discrimination. I think its discrimination because the company is only looking on the benefits they will get out of the person and what can be good for them and they don't think of the persons ability to work just what will be good for them. Companies should hire based on the qualities and abilities that make the person qualify for the job. They should also look at their profile to make sure they haven't done a very bad thing and also at their resume. For them to hire based on the image that they can get out of them is just not fair for the people that are denied the job because they would feel that they don't have good qualifications. Companies will not know weather or not the person they hire will get them a good or bad image. For example the person that they hire because they though it would create them a good image can actually turn out to be a person who doesn't get them what they wanted, and the people that they let go could've gotten them that good image they wanted.
